WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.

I believe any hobby that has as much nuance as flint knapping does, generates people that get frustrated they cannot understand or see the nuance. So they make a point to judge you as harshly as possible on what they can understand...
I lost many sets of keys. So the past few years when I would get a new vehicle or lock I would have multiple made. 1 set in lock box, 1 set in my pocket, 1 set in a magnetic box on the frame of the truck.

I've seen you knap on these tiny objects, now I am certain you could knap a belemnite. Although they have a very round rock formation, I don't know if they knap well.
As long as the fossil is heavily silicified, it will knap. The cylindrical cross section can be knapped by knocking off a little bit from the ends first.

A broken arrow with the tip weight and insert blown out will still shoot rather well and go right thru a good bit of most substrates, Believe it or not.

Was working a green glass wine bottle bottom earlier. I feel like I am stuck between doing better every time and doing worse. Things are starting to get steppy. This is for a friend. Hope I clean it up good. Width is 2.05”, .68” is my widest original surface area.2.5” long with step fractures are killing me. Must be hitting to hard. At least it’s not tile.😅
I feel like I'm only a couple steps above you. But I couldn't explain what I did differently to be able to help you. 😂 I wanna get into filming my process but if Jack thinks his old videos are cringe. My videos would cause someone to regurgitate ontop of their debutage flakes 💀

@@mikemason4758ive broken every brown bottle bottom ive tried except for the old brown clorox bottles. Those knapped every nice. Not tried any other color yet. Ive been looking for good peices. I do really good with Television screen glass. Floor model and box style TV 📺
