  • Rather than just transient testing the Fluke 17B+, this is more of a review/test. Fairly long but hopefully some good info if your looking to purchase one.
    Also, you may download the Excel spreadsheet I show in the video from the following link:

    Great reviews as usual Joe... I own a Fluke 15B+ similar to this but without temperature measurement.

      I ran a life cycle test on the Fluke 17B+'s rotary switch that you may be interested in seeing. That testing starts about half way through this video. th-cam.com/video/x_L6Z8BAXFQ/w-d-xo.html

    Fluke 17b+ is a great second multimeter (I am using 289 as a main multimeter)

    thanks mate great review!
    I am thinking of getting the 15B+ the price difference is about 80 Australian dollars i do not need a temp probe from what i know...
    After watching this i will no longer complain about doing my reviews because i am guessing with all the testing it would take you ages...

      +everyday “everyday survival” survival gear I like the 17B+. Seems fairly well built and if you watched part 2, it's fairly electrically robust. For the price, it's just missing a few features that I would like.

    This is a great review video! Thanks very much! I need a bit of advice though. I'm torn between the Fluke 17B+ and the Brymen bm235. I just wanna have another meter to keep around the house and use it for little battery powered circuit boards, transformers for household electronic devices and poke around the mains occasionally. Which one do you think is better suited for my needs? Thanks!

      If you take the time to read the FAQ, you would see I don't recommend meters.

    I just ordered a 17B+ recently, looks like I made a good call based on your testing. At my age it should last the rest of my life if not abused.

    I use a 117 daily in the field, love the thing. But Would like to buy the brymen for on the table at home, it is a powerhouse for it's price range.

      +Brian Boterman The Brymen BM869s is a great all around meter. I had a 115 that I used for one of the reviews where I compared it and an 87V with the Brymen. I thought about running tests on a 117 or something in that series. Stay tuned.

    Very nice review but I would like to see a current test too since my cheapie failed me when measuring amps. I like to short out the amps range briefly to test power supplies.

    the analysis is very fine.what the input current strength of 1 to 5.9 kv .its it possible to measure high pulse voltage with this meter

      Sure, you could pulse it for as long as you want up to DC as long as you stay within the specified limits.

    The 17B batteries seem to lay loose only when you take the lid off. This is a feature; instead of having to dig in there with a tool to get them out, or growing fingernails or breaking nails - they are loose and easily drop right out when you need them to be removed. I actually like this feature and I'm curious as to why more equipment doesn't do this as battery slots haven't really changed since their inception.

    • @Acecool
      @Acecool 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the battery probes - I think having a contact on the board is better because if they fail then it is a tiny piece of metal you can bend out of nickel and be back in business. With the others you need much thicker gauge... and have to do soldering work. I am liking the 17b features so far.

    • @Acecool
      @Acecool 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like the grease though. The other flukes don't seem to have that.

    • @Acecool
      @Acecool 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would've also been nicer if the fuses were accessible without taking everything apart. A slot near the batteries for a few spares would be nice too ( empty, of course, for the price but the slots would be nice ).

    Not sure if any of you watching this have seen AvEs video on the lowest end of these meters the 12e. Whats interesting about them is their all the same meter! all functionality of the 150$ish 17b+ is on the 12e. Only difference is the physical buttons and dial are different, the pcbs are totally identical.

    • @joesmith-je3tq

      Most of the meters see very little use outside of the BM869s. The 17B+ is still fine but it's not a good data point.

      +joe smith I saw in the specs two ranges for milliamps 40 and 400, I just wanted to makesure that I'll be able to read blow 40mA, I usually work with 4-20mA signals. thanks

    • @joesmith-je3tq
      @joesmith-je3tq  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you may be interested in DC mostly with a fast update rate. The 17B+ is not RMS but should not be a problem for what you are doing. Some of the meters I have looked at have a feature for 4-20 where they display it as a percentage. Let me give it some thought and I put together a new video for you.

    • @joesmith-je3tq
      @joesmith-je3tq  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +IGATECK I looked at the meters that are still working and only one of them has the 4-20mA mode I mentioned. The Brymen of course. The meter I normally use is an Extech EX540 also supports it. I am surprised it is not more common to have this math built in. Even the Fluke 289 does not support it. I also looked at the resolution of the 17B+ in that range and it is 10uA. I still plan on doing some sort of video but thought I would give you a heads up in case you are currently in the market for one.

      +joe smith thanks a lot for the replying
      yeah I just want a decent meter with milliamp capabilities, I actually have an extech oyster milliamp calibrator ( measure/source ) but I normally use it for bench work only but on the field I been using the little red harborfreight meter hahaha, it actually works realy good for milliamps but I want something more reliable, I was looking at the Milwaukee 2217-20 and it seem like it does have the same features as the 17b+ but the Milwaukee cost 20 dollars more but it is true RMS

      I would have guessed most people would be aware of the warranty when buying the meters made for the Chinese market. Sounds like you didn't do your homework before you bought yours. I would be interested in knowing what happened at the time yours failed, what damaged was caused. Do you have any pictures of the damage?

      @@joesmith-je3tq the knob locked up then it got to lose the when I would turn it on volts it would be on amps! Fluke told me to send it through mail to them at my coat with reciept and they would fix it I called the company they said they had no record or no way to repair that meter because it wasn't in their system I used it till I got another but was confusing with crazy knob,
