Good video, enjoyed it quite alot. The 4 hours of editing on that one part was appreciated. I just take slight issue with conclusion that you make at the 47:40. Is being subjugaed really better than fighting? How high are the costs allowed to get? Bcs if any price is to high, you just invite revisionist and dictators to kick in the door and take what they want. I personally dont like that line of thinking, bcs its the same argument, that gets used to try to cut funding for a very specific eastern european country. Maybe i just misunderstood you. Also "Consequence of Power" is the worst mission, bcs there is so much dead time when the missles come in and you cant skip it. Anyone can disagree with me on that, but that will not change my opinion that they are wrong ;)
Oh my God you're totally right - I didn't make that connection and I'm kicking myself over it now. I was thinking purely within PW and about how Cascadia had just been subject to two apocalypses over something like 4 months. At that point, it might well be better to just survive and keep the Cascadian culture (and people) alive that way. Something like how in AC7 mission 18 ("Lost Kingdom"), one of the Shilage soldiers says something like "Don't die! As long as we're alive, our hopes and dreams live on!" I don't know - I guess the difference between the Federation and the leader of the 2nd best army in Russia is that the Federation aren't actively trying to erase the Cascadian culture and people? Bad though the Feds may be, they don't seem to mind the Cascadian people, so long as Cascadia is a part of the Federation. In contrast to current events, the Feds never seem to go out of their way to cause a genocide on the Cascadian people. Their objective of mission 15 (since I believe they knew what they were doing, perhaps just underestimating the ramifications a tad) wasn't specifically to erase the Cascadians from history, rather just to send a message that NOBODY messes with the Federation. Hence the Fed's aren't as bad, so not having independence wouldn't be as damaging in this case? Yeah, either way it's a poor argument and, as someone who tries to keep up with the conflict, I'm very annoyed at myself for not spotting the parallels sooner. Good spot. In other news - I get what you're saying about mission 15, but it's actually one of my favourite missions, purely because of the punch that "Consequence of Power" gives you the first time you see it. Imo it's a perfect mission in terms of lore and music, and to me it makes up for the minute of flying about doing nothing. That last bit's subjective though, so let's agree to disagree on that! No contest for the best mission though, we all know it's Showdown. Most of those 4 hours were spent trying to figure out how to improve my editing to the point where I would be happy I'd done Showdown justice. Thanks for watching!

@@mrshark1757tbh going by game lore it seems cascadia was part of federation imperial expanding with general faust starving a continent in Oceania . Her final dialogue in frontline 59 suggests that cascadia just wants to replace the federation as world power with her quote saying cascadia has only that right to influence the world .
@axel665 I personally don't think Faust is a reliable source since she's basically Torres in a plane. I'm sure there are some important people that agree with her, but there are also many who don't - notably, Stardust and Woodward. Faust went rouge after World On Fire, and I get the impression that a lot of the lower-ranking soldiers who agreed with her died with her. She also says about how the higher-ups have discovered something terrible in Oceana, and if the Feds keep fighting, they will use it. The fact that Stardust gave it to Sicario makes me think that the important people in Cascadia aren't on Faust's side.
Something I love thinking about because it is a real consequence if you got invested in him is that canonically General Elizabeth died during Operation Anticipation (Prospero). From the dialogue, we know he is with the artillery and you can see them all disappear in an explosion after a missile hits them. This also makes his line, "Get the counter battery up. We're not letting them get away with this. Kill them all!" one of the last things he said.
Great vid, thoroughly enjoyed it! Although lol @ the fact that you released this and LESS THAN A MONTH later, Sony finally allowed Frontline 59 to come to pc. Look forward to the follow-up vid!
25:16 Something I do wanna add to this part is that obviously not everyone in the Federation agreed to this. Right before this happens, you hear an argument between I'm guessing the Federation commander for Prospero and the leader of the Peacekeeping Squadron. The commander refused to allow the order of the cordium bombs to go through and it's assumed that the Squadron leader ended up killing him in order to send the missiles through. Also just wanna say, this was an amazing video. I wish this got more attention, it's really well put together and feels high quality.
The video was way longer than I wanted it to be so I had to cut a lot out. Fortunately, Sector D2 gave me an excuse to talk about it some more yesterday! Thanks!
Speaking of how the sky looks, I love what they did with the Calamity missions. It reminds me of the broken earth from Black Ops 2 Zombies; it's day out, but you can see the stars. It's like the Earth's atmosphere itself was destroyed
There is one thing that I love in mission 7 (besides Captain Woodward), which is the way that below the clouds there’s a raging storm with rain and lightning and the works, but you can just go above that and everything is calm and still. It’s simple but sue me
@iceveins412 I am a big fan of weather like that tbf. Only reason I didn't mention it is because I think the cloudbase is still a little too low lol - I crashed into the sea far too many times because of it
I wont lie, when i first beat this game. I actually shed a few tears. And to be honest the game has made me feel emotions very few other games have and certainly no other flight games have. When frontline was released for pc recently and i picked it up to beat it. I cannot express how hard those missions inflicted those same emotions a 21 mission campaign created. The 5 or so missions of frontline left me feeling chills i haven't felt since the final dialogue before the credits of the base story. What helped sell it was in the last mission, as Faust is giving her final speech, you can hear the activation order for the cordium warheads of mission 16. It really helps sell frontline-59 as a "meanwhile" story and also shows the effects reach so far as Magadan from the detonations, considering the HUD glitches out like crazy and the screen gets more and more hazy. Project wingman is the arcade flight game that is a culmination of everything i love about the genre mixed with deep story telling that once you look past the surface, tells a very chilling and real story. I love this game and hope it gets more support with new releases or supliments.
See I knew that in FL:59 mission 6 you could see cruise missiles flying over at the end, and hear the "Authenticate. Blaze. Readback" and whatnot. I didn't realise that the cruise missiles start to appear during the 2nd phase of Faust's fight! If you listen carefully, Eye-Tee even calls them out!
What I love most about the game is exactly what Max0r said about it. On its own, the story, graphics, gameplay, etc are pretty good but nothing special, but they combine together to form an amazing experience. The game's atmoshpere is honestly perfect, and while you mention a lot of the best moments, I want to add on a few more points. The first 3 missions are a great introduction to the game, setting up its mechanics and some of the characters with fairly low stakes. Then missions 4 and 5 set the tone and increase the stakes- Cascadia is losing, badly. And you don't know if this war can be won. Then in the next few missions you slowly even out the playing field, slowly helping Cascadia step off its back foot, culiminating in Mission 11, once again shifting the tone. Not only do you destroy the majority of the Federation's airforce, you manage to force Crimson 1 to retreat! However, this positivity quickly fades away - as Cascadia keeps gaining ground, the Federation grows more desperate to win, fights harder, and refuses to surrender. In Missions 14 and the first part of 15, a growing sense of unease and anger at the Federation for its refusal to surrender and the lengths it will go to to stop Cascadia from winning, culminating in the cordium-tipped cruise missiles. Mission 15 is definitely my 2nd favourite mission - By this point, the game is not that hard, you're destroying vast amounts of Federation planes and ground forces, Cascadia is advancing on all fronts, and the war is almost won, yet the Federation *still* refuses to surrender. To me, the first time I played this mission I felt like it was almost too easy, which perfectly set up the next part of the mission, which is my favourite moment in the game. The build up of anger at the Federation, Consequences of Power playing in the background, the panicked radio chatter of both Galaxy and civillian monitoring centers, your inability to prevent the coming catastrophy... and the apocalypse happens, again, all because some people in the Federation's military command couldn't handle losing. And this happens again - Some time after the near start of the 2nd calamity, Cascadia once again slowly starts winning, leading to my favourite mission, Presidia, in which we finally win! A ceasefire is declared, the war is over! And yet, Crimson 1 shows up again, likely with an even more devestating Cordium strike than the last one. His insane ramblings, while they do have merit, are still fundamentally wrong and serve only one purpose: to make you want to kill him. I honestly love the last mission and how it contrasts with Ace Combat's usual endings, and one of the comments on the Kings soundtrack said it best. Instead of a beautiful duel between knights, a duel for the fate of your nation, etc. you have a savage knife fight with the only goal of killing the other person. You aren't fighting for any cause anymore, Presidia has already been destroyed, you aren't fighting for your ideals... you're fighting an insane man hellbent on killing you for the crime of being better than him. The only thing I disagree with you is what you said about Crimson 1 having some merit - he does not. Sure, if you hadn't been involved the Federation wouldn't have used its cordium warheads... but you aren't responsible for their actions. They chose to use them, not you. They couldn't handle losing to Cascadia, you did not force their hand by winning. In fact, this sort of rhetoric is literally used IRL by Russia against Ukraine. Also, I don't think the Pacific Federation is like the UN at all. Its called the Pacific Federation, and you can see where their territories stretch, only around the Pacific ocean I imagine they are more akin to the US in our world - they are the stronest power, but they are not any form of world government. In fact I think there are similar states and federations throughout the world. Also also, I know its been mentioned to death but the soundtrack is so fucking amazing its about 70% of what makes this game so amazing lol.
@alexsabau5942 When I said Crimson 1 has merit....well I don't think I meant it how most people have interpreted it. My own fault really, I wasn't expecting this video to blow up like it did. What I was trying to say is pretty much exactly what you've said - that while some of what he says is TECHNICALLY true, Monarch is certainly not to blame for what's happened, and Crimson 1 is too mad to see it. Hence, his ramblings do a pretty good job at making you want to kill him even more than you already do. Really appreciate the comment! Be sure to have a look at my Frontline 59 video when it releases (which could be anywhere from 2 weeks to a month, Uni got pretty busy all of a sudden lol).
I've been working flat-out on this for more than a week and a half I guess you could call it my Project (Wingman) Anyways, credit to all the stuff I used is in the description.
22:22 from the Anniversary Edition on PS5: "You're gonna die on this land Fed!" And in Presidia they added a line where someone says it's better for Presidia to burn than be under the Federation's rule.
Plus, didn't Woodward say something about letting the Fed sailors drown during Presidia? I really wish they'd update the steam version with the new voice lines. I especially want to hear the Dejanus' radio chatter.
well this was a great video its always nice to see PW content on youtube because there doesn't seem to be much on youtube for some reason, anyway few other things: 1. that frontline 59 comment at the end aged like milk but i do share the sentiment and did for the past year 2. rather minor but u should try out the AOA module if u haven't already its crazy and elevates the game from standard ace combat 20g manoeuvres to PW's 50g manoeuvres
@sagewolf7831 yeah so I tried the AoA module like twice but I just couldn't get it to work on my HOTAS. I probably could figure it out if I really tried, and it would probably be good fun too, but I'm not really willing to give up my "dodge all the missiles" button. Also yeah, FL:59 video is in the works. I'm busy with uni and Christmas and whatnot so it might be a month but it's coming! Thanks!
Honestly thought this was like a giant channel with the size and quality of this video. I was super shocked at the view and subscriber count, dude you got something with these retrospective videos. Great video as well, I honestly felt that the ending with everyone dead was such a good ending showing how war is hell and that in an instant everyone you love and everything you know can just be taken away in an instant. But during the credits it reveals that everyone was actually alive and you just couldn't hear or see them during the fight. Which like I love sicario and they have some good characters but I feel it would've been a better ending if they all died and it was just monarch (and prez if you bring her) left in the ruins of cascadia alone.
Haven't seen a project wingman video in a hot minute, and it's amazing! IF i could maybe comment something, check your audio balancing (or whatever the term is for that), there were some moments where i could barely hear you over the music or other sounds. Besides of that... amazing piece mate. nothing more to say. A-MA-ZING.
To be fair: sicario mercenary team might be the only mercenary team who give a damm about cascadia future Keep in mind, they could have just left after the take the deal and yet we stay
@Tar-Numendil I mean Calamity is amazing but idk about it being the best song. In any other game it would be but in Project Wingman there's so many awesome songs that for me it's not even in the top 3, even though it's an amazing song.
+1 Sub for this vid but also I wanna say that you look like you fly for a good time. If you’re gonna have continuous lock and a basically perfect aspect why not do some rolls at the same time?
Most of the time I fly smoothly to get nice gameplay footage, and because I'm just trying to tickle the "plane go brrr" part of my brain. That said, if you focus on the "Showdown" chapter, you can see that I actually am doing what you recommend! I find that Mercenary mode M11 just has far too many missiles, so in nearly every shot I'm constantly turning and doing extra rolls to shake off the 5 missiles chasing me at any given moment - often even to the point of sacrificing a good shot on an enemy.
Honestly I hated that fight because 1. It means France, or at very least French people, survived the calamity 2. I crashed into the water 3 times thinking it was the sky Music was epic though
@sonnykwong8801 also I *could* have mentioned more in general but the 10-minute video I was gonna make ended up being 55 minutes even WITH bits cut out and it was still lagging my editing software horribly!
Don't forget about the Australian Outer Heaven ghosts who continue to haunt the Chinese UN's mind rent-free, then there's the possible existence of a Peripherian Rhodesia based on Dip's recycled warning statement to the Sawaiikis during Pearl Harbour 2, those times before the Federation Hegemony must've been just as much bangers.
@@mrshark1757 hate to break it to you, but there's 2 other superpowers out there in the lore; Kerneuropa Alliance which the Republic of Albion (Britain) is apart of, and the African Concordat. You want an explanation for the Federation trying to keep Cascadia other than being evil? How about the fact they're in a cold war with two other expansionist superpowers, and a nation they built up infrastructurally is now trying to break away while keeping the infrastructure and military equipment they were allowed to use. Cascadia may have more geothermal deposits than anywhere else in the world, but it wasn't until the Federation came along that those deposits were being refined into Cordium.
Yeah, I know. I plan a video for years, spend weeks working on it, only for it be outdated after 5 and a half weeks. Fl:59 video will be coming eventually. I've already played through it twice and it's awesome.
Noted! I live right next to a busy road, so I'm recording late at night, hence why I'm speaking so softly (don't wanna wake my flatmates up) I'll turn it up in future; thanks for watching!
I don't really understand why people harp on the music of Project Wingman so much. There are only a few songs that really stuck with me like the usual theme song of the game with its signature motif and the Midnight Light OST but everything else was forgettable to me.
21:55 was that the fucking grass?? You don't even have ALA!! this some ace combat protagonist bullshit do you know how many times I lost at the lone wolf mission because of the fucking MOUNTAINS
Okay so 1. Yes it is grass XD 2. I didn't even realise it was grass until I was editing the video! 3. Something something I like the Blackburn Buccaneer 4. What's ALA? 5. Yep, I've died to the mountains in Lone Wolf too. But I crashed into the sea twice in Midnight Light, I think Midnight Light is far worse.
@@mrshark1757 XD nice to see someone who also doesn't have impossibly good handling, I think ALA is the name.. its the flare replacement where you do the spinny thing and you can turn almost in place (unlocks on sum later jets
PW Actually Improved from Ace6 the latest Greatest modern Ace Combat . In terms of visuals and Controls and POV controls smoothness Whole Ass7 I mean Ace7 continued from Assault horizon or infinity which those totally Go Against the Greatness of Ace6 smh. Fans and players are missing out on a Truly Great Ace combat Game only because they’re Bias about it being XB-360 only Which IS The dumbest Decision by PA or Bamco !? But because of that they’re Even more dumb because Ace6 sold Low so PA had to Trash ALL that made it Great and go Polar Opposite in desperation with Catering to COD nutters 🤷♂️ Any way P.W. Still misses out on REPLAY VIEWER in general which is weird since they showed footage in Trailers? Just couldn’t Actually Code it in the Game but just for Trailer ? But now the Project Wingman devs made some “EA games” moves with ‘Frontline 59’ being a sort of sequel or Expansion? But the Thing is they only made that “Expansion” PlayStation 5 EXCLUSIVE are you kidding me !? So we’ll see if they’re Still Serious in continuing this Masterpiece with Making Multiplayer and ADDING Replay Viewer in Pause Menu (Ace7👀) so to Enjoy Watching cinematics in how you flew When ever you like !?
Contemporary wise. AC6 is the send off. Namco wouldn't make Strangereal after 5/Zero. Financial risk is too high. So Microsoft paid for the Sendoff game. In the narrative AC6 ties up Ulysses saga. Last of the scar from the meteor is wiped. Awaited is Brand New Day. After that BanNam approved AH and Infinity. Try to find Ace Combat place in modern day but we know the result. PW even born because everyone thought AC was buried. Then AC7 happened. Even then AC7 is a narrative mess. Result of too long development circle carried too much idea in a game. I mean. Penal Squadron and Longstrike Squadron could be separate ideas or separate games.
Honestly one of the funnest enemies to fight imo. Very satisfying to get above them and hit them with the MLAAs or RKTs. or a UGB if you're good enough (I'm not).

@mrshark1757 I see, thanks for the clarification. Then yea, I absolutely agree, and thats what made me love the fight so much.
I've been working flat-out on this for more than a week and a half
I guess you could call it my Project (Wingman)
Anyways, credit to all the stuff I used is in the description.
22:22 from the Anniversary Edition on PS5:
"You're gonna die on this land Fed!"
And in Presidia they added a line where someone says it's better for Presidia to burn than be under the Federation's rule.
Plus, didn't Woodward say something about letting the Fed sailors drown during Presidia?
I really wish they'd update the steam version with the new voice lines. I especially want to hear the Dejanus' radio chatter.
@mrshark1757 he might've. It's interesting to me how the new lines almost exclusively try to make the Cascadians look worse.
@@TheGamingKiller242 As the Dust Mother's least patriotic Cascadian I will not stand for this
@@mrshark1757 "Dust mother" psh. Frickin' pagans.
It's not like the federation try to be nice with cascadia
Remember: the first line they say in calamity it's "exterminate with extreme prejudice"
This game takes Ace Combat lore and believes that it’s an Armored Core game with a Just Cause level of dialogue
absolute cinema
So umh F59 came out on pc
well this was a great video its always nice to see PW content on youtube because there doesn't seem to be much on youtube for some reason, anyway few other things:
1. that frontline 59 comment at the end aged like milk but i do share the sentiment and did for the past year
2. rather minor but u should try out the AOA module if u haven't already its crazy and elevates the game from standard ace combat 20g manoeuvres to PW's 50g manoeuvres
Thanks!
I just finished the game in Mercenary Difficulty and then found this video. Nice vid!
Thanks!
Same man!
Very well made! I can't wait until you post the Frontline-59 video! Should have talked about Prez a bit more though...
Noted, not enough Prez. Modifications will be made to the FL:59 video.
thanks!
A-MA-ZING.
@matiasdelafuente3106 yeah audio was meh. First time I've ever recorded lines for a video, I was not expecting this to blow up lol.
OMG PROJECT WINGMAN LORE 😼😼
Nice video, glad to see another fellow Project Wingman fan
thanks!
best video i watched all week
@@robotmistake thanks!
Such a great ambitious game that it wasn’t just PC exclusive!😊
To be fair: sicario mercenary team might be the only mercenary team who give a damm about cascadia future
Keep in mind, they could have just left after the take the deal and yet we stay
Calamity is the best song in the entire game and Cold War is the best mission in the game.
@Tar-Numendil I mean Calamity is amazing but idk about it being the best song. In any other game it would be but in Project Wingman there's so many awesome songs that for me it's not even in the top 3, even though it's an amazing song.
Calamity is the Theme of the game But there are other “bangers”
Though they don’t Stand out right away as other games to me

9:08 his canonical name is Captain Chad Woodward
I know and it's beautiful
@ yep same, love it

How on Earth do you have only 120+1 subscribers?
My upload schedule is "maybe"
The French woman's theme 'Daedalus' unmentioned, 0/10 retrospective. 👍
Honestly I hated that fight because
1. It means France, or at very least French people, survived the calamity
2. I crashed into the water 3 times thinking it was the sky
Music was epic though
@sonnykwong8801 also I *could* have mentioned more in general but the 10-minute video I was gonna make ended up being 55 minutes even WITH bits cut out and it was still lagging my editing software horribly!
Don't forget about the Australian Outer Heaven ghosts who continue to haunt the Chinese UN's mind rent-free, then there's the possible existence of a Peripherian Rhodesia based on Dip's recycled warning statement to the Sawaiikis during Pearl Harbour 2, those times before the Federation Hegemony must've been just as much bangers.
@@sonnykwong8801 Frost was the worst honestly. Her dialogue sucked.
Cascadia may have more geothermal deposits than anywhere else in the world, but it wasn't until the Federation came along that those deposits were being refined into Cordium.
it IS on PC now
Yeah, I know.
I plan a video for years, spend weeks working on it, only for it be outdated after 5 and a half weeks.
Fl:59 video will be coming eventually. I've already played through it twice and it's awesome.
Your audio is very soft by the way, you might want to adjust and check that.
Noted!
I live right next to a busy road, so I'm recording late at night, hence why I'm speaking so softly (don't wanna wake my flatmates up)
I'll turn it up in future; thanks for watching!
@@mrshark1757 put a big, thick, heavy blanket over your head while recording. it mutes sound and excess noise.
@insertnamehere6659 oh yeah why didn't I think of that good idea
Such a shame that you made this video then 1 month later, they finally release the 2.1 update along with FL59 on PC.
Okay so
1. Yes it is grass XD
2. I didn't even realise it was grass until I was editing the video!
3. Something something I like the Blackburn Buccaneer
4. What's ALA?
@FreakyAhhMissouri ah you mean the AoA (angle of attack) limiter!
Yeah I just can't get it to work with my HOTAS. Plus I prefer flares anyway.
@@mrshark1757 ALSO beautiful video!!
@@FreakyAhhMissouri Thanks!
PW Actually Improved from Ace6 the latest Greatest modern Ace Combat .
In terms of visuals and Controls and POV controls smoothness
Whole Ass7 I mean Ace7 continued from Assault horizon or infinity which those totally Go Against the Greatness of Ace6 smh.
Fans and players are missing out on a Truly Great Ace combat Game only because they’re Bias about it being XB-360 only Which IS The dumbest Decision by PA or Bamco !?
But because of that they’re Even more dumb because Ace6 sold Low so PA had to Trash ALL that made it Great and go Polar Opposite in desperation with Catering to COD nutters 🤷♂️
Any way P.W.
Big reason why i Love Project Wingman are the Airships
Honestly one of the funnest enemies to fight imo. Very satisfying to get above them and hit them with the MLAAs or RKTs.
or a UGB if you're good enough (I'm not).
