I have to second the comment from 2 yrs ago...this is the FIRST and only video I’ve found explaining how to line up and make the double half hitch knots in detail. Most don’t even explain what knot they’re using and/or they use the method they’ve refined it to and you they do it fast and their hands get in the way. Thank you sooooo much for this!
This is what a real, good tutorial should be: with clear explanations and tips. Unlike the majority of so called “tutorials” that are simply demos without any explanations, but with some annoying music on a loop. Thank you!

Thanks. One of the best tips ever is the fray check. For 30 years most of my macrame has been with large material for plant hangers, my husband gets these. Now getting into small cord and having arthritis placing beads is so difficult. Also some beads just won't except two cords through them. Fray check has opened up my ability to use some beads that I was just keeping for my wire work. For those who think this is a slowing you process think again. You might have to wait drying time but you make up for it in the speed of adding beads, especially those with smaller holes. I now have added my fray check to the list of necessary to have in my tool box. Once hardened doing needling (needling for those who don't know is cutting the end of the cord so it is slanted to a sort of a point, like a needle) of a cord is awesome. This makes the ends like using wire and they pick up beads I would never before considered using. So once again thanks for that tip.
I loved your video. I mainly do bead weaving, but have wanted to get into micro macrame. I finally bought some thread and I am ready to go. I used to make a lot of friendship bracelets when I was a kid, and some got pretty complicated. Your video was very easy to follow, and I really feel like i will be able to follow it when I finish the piece I am making.... I hate unfinished pieces, but want to start this SO bad lol. I had been pulling my hair out trying to figure out the dhhk, and since I am Ms. Instant Gratification, impatient and must look perfect the first time out... (yeah, right) I was not going to be beat by a bunch of knots. Precarious predicament, I know. But NOW, thanks to you, I will have a sturdier foundation to start from. Been a big fan of knotted bracelets and various knotted floss works. I used to do beading until it got too expensive. Did macrame for a while, but didn't have the room for the materials of some of the larger projects. Found this craft, blends the three crafts I have loved in the past into one. Finally getting to learn how it goes. Big macrame has a different was to stop fraying, never worried about fraying with knotted bracelets, and with beading fray was not often heard of depending on the project. Hoping to get into this real soon. Have to get back into the practice of the knots again before I start doing fancy stuff like this. I'll definitely keep this channel though.
I did the same thing-macrame jute projects--big things-then crochet-everything--now trying this. We'll seen if my nerves can take this tiny stuff. LOL Good Luck!

I have to add to everybody else's comments... This was a great video and a great small project to try. I finally have my cord behaving as it should more or less. I still have trouble getting a nice straight even line of DHH knots but I'm sure that's just practice. I watch you doing this and I'm amazed how clean looking everything comes out. I can't even describe it properly, but you have a talent there. I'm not sure if it's your tension on the cords, the direction you pulled the cords in, or something else that gives you a nice row of double half hitch knots. Anyway I had so much cord left over that I just kept on going. Starting from the beginning with the bundle of cords and just making row after row of diagonal lines. I need the practice. I'd been trying as a total newbie to following a different project involving double half hitch knots but while it was with another excellent teacher she did the knot way too fast for me (on the left) which then left me endlessly doubting if I'd picked it up right esp when the pattern didn't come together - now I can see exactly how to do it I can not only figure out her pattern but make a much easier option with you here - Happy Dance :) :) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
That teacher cannot be “excellent.” That could be an excellent macrame master, but, obviously, a cruddy useless teacher of s/he didn’t explain anything and you walked away confused and not having learned.

In some tutorials, the demonstrators move so fast the moves become confusing. In your tutorial, I finally have been able to see what moves, where it moves, and how it moves, and much of it has become very clear. Thank you!
TH-cam gives you the ability to slow the video to almost a crawl. See the three little dots at the top of the video to your right, click it, click the function to take from normal to a slower speed. It works wonders on those who move way to fast. Hope that helps.
Thank you for sharing, I only know a little of macrame, your tutorial is great, have seen it all and now will begin to make your pretty pendant with LOTS of pauses to help me along!!! Could you do a tutorial on macrame bezels please? I have many natural gemstones...agate, jasper, malachite etc that would look so good with macrame, am sure many others would too.
Sherri, I was able to make one albeit wonky!! I have trouble with the hitch on the left side as my left arm is awkward due to a badly set break as a kid near the joint. guess LOTS of practice is needed to find a way to overcome that awkwardness. The larks head knot reminds me of the tatting double knot.
A cheap clear nail varnish ,,brush a drop on to your index finger ,,rub onto your cord ends and when dry cut them at a angle ready for threading on your beads ,,,,,Regards Alf
No magic formula, sorry. It depends on how dense the knotting part of your pattern is, how many beads you include and the patterns itself. I usually guess WAY longer than I think I need the first time I try something, then scale back on subsequent attempts.
If I use standard .5 c-lon and 8/0 seed beads, it will just end up smaller, right? Is there a way to make the bail out of macrame as well, or do I just need to find a metal bail to use it as a pendant? I'm gonna try it! This is a really great tutorial. I also hope you make a small earring tutorial sometime.
Yes, if you use smaller cord and beads the resulting piece will be smaller. This post might give you an idea of the difference cord size makes: www.knotjustmacrame.com/2015/03/nylon-cord-size-comparison.html As far as a bail, I just run my cord or chain through the loop at the top of this piece.
Ok, now is the time to learn this... I managed to source all materials except the beads.. They are not called crimping beads are they? I'm new to this... The number of cords depends on the pattern you're making - there's no set number. The length totally depends on the pattern, too. I usually start out with gobs more than I think I'll need and then once I've done a design once I can estimate better by what I wasted the first time around. That said, I've run short more than once :) It is possible to add more cord to continue with a piece but it's not always seamless. So, trial and error!
Hi, this is a question from someone with no experience in jewellrt making but I have always wanted to learn a craft and I am very fascinated with Micro Macrame jewellry that I wish to start making my own. My question is this... Do you think that it would be too complex for me to get into this craft right away or do I need to start off with the basic macrame home projects using regular cords and so on? I wanted to know if this has a basic element of its own that I can just start off with and if I can just get right into it without previous experience. A response from anyone with experience is welcome. Thank you :)
You don't have to have any experience with "regular" macrame before diving into micro macrame. This particular project uses slightly larger cord than the .5mm cord I usually work with, so it's a little easier for an absolute beginner. Give it a try!

Soooo tedious -_- I made the mistake of cutting my cord ready to make this project but every time I attempt it I end up with "shoulders" of cord next to the loop at the top, no matter how tight I pull it. And the initial holding cord is way shorter than the rest when I finish with the loop. I've tried it 3 times now with the same result each time, but the video is so boring and repetitive that I think I'm going to pack it in and hope I find a use for the cords I've cut >=| ugh.

Thank you for sharing, I only know a little of macrame, your tutorial is great, have seen it all and now will begin to make your pretty pendant with LOTS of pauses to help me along!!! Could you do a tutorial on macrame bezels please? I have many natural gemstones...agate, jasper, malachite etc that would look so good with macrame, am sure many others would too.

Sherri, I was able to make one albeit wonky!! I have trouble with the hitch on the left side as my left arm is awkward due to a badly set break as a kid near the joint. guess LOTS of practice is needed to find a way to overcome that awkwardness. The larks head knot reminds me of the tatting double knot.

A cheap clear nail varnish ,,brush a drop on to your index finger ,,rub onto your cord ends and when dry cut them at a angle ready for threading on your beads ,,,,,Regards Alf

No magic formula, sorry. It depends on how dense the knotting part of your pattern is, how many beads you include and the patterns itself. I usually guess WAY longer than I think I need the first time I try something, then scale back on subsequent attempts.
If I use standard .5 c-lon and 8/0 seed beads, it will just end up smaller, right? Is there a way to make the bail out of macrame as well, or do I just need to find a metal bail to use it as a pendant? I'm gonna try it! This is a really great tutorial. I also hope you make a small earring tutorial sometime.

As far as a bail, I just run my cord or chain through the loop at the top of this piece.

Ok, now is the time to learn this... I managed to source all materials except the beads.. They are not called crimping beads are they? I'm new to this... The number of cords depends on the pattern you're making - there's no set number. The length totally depends on the pattern, too. I usually start out with gobs more than I think I'll need and then once I've done a design once I can estimate better by what I wasted the first time around. That said, I've run short more than once :) It is possible to add more cord to continue with a piece but it's not always seamless. So, trial and error!

Hi, this is a question from someone with no experience in jewellrt making but I have always wanted to learn a craft and I am very fascinated with Micro Macrame jewellry that I wish to start making my own. My question is this... Do you think that it would be too complex for me to get into this craft right away or do I need to start off with the basic macrame home projects using regular cords and so on? I wanted to know if this has a basic element of its own that I can just start off with and if I can just get right into it without previous experience. A response from anyone with experience is welcome. Thank you :)
You don't have to have any experience with "regular" macrame before diving into micro macrame. This particular project uses slightly larger cord than the .5mm cord I usually work with, so it's a little easier for an absolute beginner. Give it a try!

Soooo tedious -_- I made the mistake of cutting my cord ready to make this project but every time I attempt it I end up with "shoulders" of cord next to the loop at the top, no matter how tight I pull it. And the initial holding cord is way shorter than the rest when I finish with the loop. I've tried it 3 times now with the same result each time, but the video is so boring and repetitive that I think I'm going to pack it in and hope I find a use for the cords I've cut >=| ugh.

why wouldn't you just use the two that you cut off as tassels as well?
You could, but they're sticking out from the last knot at an angle so they won't lay right with the rest of the tassel.
