Smart. I do too. Fire Ball just feels more like an actual good all-around machine. Wind Walker is another good option if you need acceleration. Basically does Hot Violet but way better.
I actually used the Wind Walker when playing through Expert mode and Master mode due to how good its handling is (even though I already had the Jet Vermillion but I wasn't used to controlling that thing). What turns me off about it however is that it takes like 3 hits and its down
@@renegade4346 I follow you here. I really like to be able to take some hits myself, which is why I often like to use machines like Fire Ball, Falcon Mk-II, and Silver Thunder. But of all, Fighting Comet may as well be a paper cup.
I'm agree with your opinions you told in the video. If Sly Joker or Falcon MK-2 were in starting choice, these two would be the "real" first ones... Or, choosing Fire Ball will be the best starting choice. Not only in the first choice machines, Hot Violet could be the weakest machine in all F-ZERO series...
Nah, there's one worse machine just in Maximum Velocity alone, although despite being worse it's also more useful for things other than outright winning races. J. B. Crystal is, honestly, terrible from an objective point of view. While it has good handling, strong acceleration and a long boost, it has a pathetic top speed and a weak body, and its boost speed and speed retention are also very below the curve. But its handling characteristics make it the best trainer for its respective game in the entire series. In short, J. B. Crystal is worse overall but a better trainer than Hot Violet.
The funny thing is I loved and mained the hot violet, one of only two vehicles (the other being the stingray) that I beat the master queen cup with. Granted, I knew nothing about stats back then at all. I was just "that looks cool" and "I like how this handles."
I imagine most of us went into F-Zero games thinking little about some of the stats at first. I'm also a Hot Violet lover, but yes, it's pretty much outclassed by nearly every other vehicle. As such, you may find it very tough to win in Tightrope Circuit with Hot Violet for example. It also does handle very well though. The only thing holding it back is that it just cannot compete in terms of booster speed, which in MV, is extremely important. Additionally, it doesn't retain speed from boosting or dash plates as long as Wind Walker or Fighting Comet. I still wouldn't let that stop you from staying with Hot Violet though. In fact, using such a machine makes it even more challenging.
The Blue Falcon in GX is probably worse or at least close, such a sad showing from it there, and the story mode wouldn't be as hard with pretty much any more decent vehicles.
I feel this is one thing GP Legend beats GX in, when it comes to comparing story modes. GP Legend gives you a total of eight vehicles, a good chunk of which are either decent or pretty darn strong. Then in Climax, pretty much every machine is busted and overpowered. But yeah. Blue Falcon in GX is certainly maybe too balanced perhaps.
Blue falcon from gx was my favorite starter. Sure, story mode was a pain, but isn't that the point? For story mode to be a challenge. Anyway, my go-to starter machine was blue falcon and I always liked using it.
I started maxing out all the cups with this vechicle and now I see Hot Violet as a great guardian of the skill curve that basically says "if you can beat the game with me, you'll be able to do it with other vechicles too". A pretty rough start, but it surely does teach the player the needed skill.
Wow, I guess that explains why I never really used Hot Violet. I remember when I was a kid first getting the game I was more partial to using J.B. Crystal as my starter machine, but now as an adult I have no clue how I put up with that and I mostly use Wind Walker if I just have the default 4 machines.
Even then, I'd consider the J.B. Crystal to be a better overall option. It may be slow, but it can handle bends well and has a long boost. (Of course, the Sly/Dirty Joker is just a better version of that in spite of the very short boost, so once you unlock that, there's no real reason to go back unless you're trying to challenge yourself.)
I thought I was just bad at F-zero games, but when I tried this game for the first time recently (thanks to your videos 🙂) Hot Violet clicked pretty well. I beat all 4 cups in expert and had a great time. I also tried the Stingray and really like how it feels, so that’s what I’ll use to finish the cups on master mode 😁
I actually felt that for a starter machine, Hot Violet was pretty good. Fast acceleration and the second best turning means it's an excellent vehicle to learn the ropes with, and the body really isn't bad either, it's fairly medium. Only the Wind Walker steers better, but that one has the worst body strength of all, worse acceleration, and boost for almost a second less (it's marginally faster though, but only by single digits). The worst to me will be the Blue Falcon in SNES. Terrible steering and body strength, though not as bad as the Golden Fox (but at least the Golden Fox has reasons to pick). The problem is magnified by how the SNES version plays, a beginner absolutely needs steering and body strength to survive there. A beginner absolutely needs to avoid the Blue Falcon at all costs and go for the Wild Goose (Fire Stingray is fine as well). Really wish the SNES version had a Wild Goose with speed and acceleration swapped around though, that would've made for a perfect starter vehicle. My two cents as a 2D F-Zero beginner.
I'll add an honorable mention for 99's Blue Falcon here It's not nearly as abysmal as the Hot Violet but I'd argue you're in rough waters if you're actively gunning for 1st against people that really know how to utilize the other 3 vehicles, as the Falcon excels at nothing in particular I swear the main reason I got its gold and white palette the other day was cause the guy in front me, running Stingray, took an L and steered into a red bumper as we were rounding the 2nd to last turn of DW1
No wonder why I could only BARELY beat Pawn Cup in Master with this car. Tried it in the other cups and got basically outrunned. Had to switch cars for the following cups (I think it was J.B. Crystal or Sly Joker the ones I used). Also, I always found funny that a new version of the Blue Falcon is actually one of the last vehicles you unlock. It's just overpowered iirc.
The Bishop League is especially difficult at times with Hot Violet. However, yes, Falcon Mk-II is one of the later vehicles. But as for powerful vehicles, it's fairly strong. Fighting Comet just has the best booster and speed retention. You could sail for 12 seconds at a slowly dropping high speed. Massive. Then the infamous Jet Vermillion. There is a reason people run time attack with it for world records. Sly Joker is also a strong machine. I think better to use over Falcon Mk-II.
@@custom-r Yeah, it's a shame because Hot Violet has a neat design. So Falcon it's just decent, huh. I knew the Fighting Comet was this good, and for a car you unlock by beating Master, it is worth the effort (tho FC has bad body, being the only downside). I never knew how to use Jet Vermillion, and from what I have seen, it's weird but well.
And what’s extra embarrassing is that Hot Violet was positioned as the flagship vehicle of this game. Imagine the star of the show actually being the worst in the game.
To be fair, F-Zero Maximum Velocity's entire starting lineup is iffy. - Hot Violet is obsoleted the moment you get your hands on any of the unlockable machines. - Fireball's not terrible but it's a bad starter machine, performing similarly to other late-game machines like Stingray and Silver Thunder, albeit not quite as good. - J. B. Crystal is a good trainer but doesn't grow with the player. - Wind Walker is too slippery and fragile for a beginner. I guess they wanted to reward the player with better machines as they progressed, but they could have at least done a better job on the starting lineup.
Hot Violet is certainly very bad for a stater and the worst of the ones you have immediate selection of. Although I feel GX Wild Goose manages to be even worse despite its body build.
Heh, being I'm not a fan of MV, as you know, I'm actually surprised. Now its own starter machine sucks! That's sad! And people think the Dragon Bird has low top speed?
I find a machine being this weak as the first machine you see particularly damning in this case. The primary reason is that the AI and tracks are some of the most difficult to deal with a lot of the time. A key part of Maximum Velocity is to make absolutely certain that the ai doesn’t catch you, because if it does, it quickly makes racing hazardous and frustrating. Having a low top speed and speed retention is just dreadful in this game, and Hot Violet sadly fits the bill of probably the worst machine in the entire series. (Excluding custom machines, knowing you can make them totally undriveable with the right parts.)
All my homies start Maximum Velocity with the Fire Ball

It's okay really, it can do every technique in the game. But none of it can do it well compared to others.

Please do more f zero videos they are very informative!
I've got plenty more in store. Recently, it's been helping me to look further into F-Zero, too.

I managed to unlock everything with the Hot Violet in MV. It's my favorite machine in it.

I found Hot Violet more usable high-level than JB Crystal, but that's practically saying nothing at all.
I’m surprised GX Blue Falcon wasn’t a contender for a weak starter machine
Hot Violet is certainly very bad for a stater and the worst of the ones you have immediate selection of.
Although I feel GX Wild Goose manages to be even worse despite its body build.
In regards to the opposite; the greatest starter cars are Blue Thunder, Blue Falcon, Dragon Bird, White Cat (F-Zero X), and Fire Ball.

I prefere Wind Walker, thank you.

Yeah. It's pretty bad design to give players a machine literally weaker than everyone else from the start.
