I just wish they made a stripped-down version, intended for the sole purpose of reading: no speakers, no Bluetooth, no fingerprints, no camera. A good OS, a crisp screen and an updatable version of Android, so as to keep it running fast enough for at least 3/5 years. Maybe, it would even be less expensive. If I'm not mistaken, something like this has recently been introduced in China, by Boox itself. Here's hoping it will be sold internationally. One thing is for sure: I'd feel 'safer' if Amazon or Kobo made a similar device. I can't even imagine the lengths one would have to go through should they need assistance for the Palma!

It currently can not be updated? Why is that?
What’s the point of buying a device with an old version of Android when it will no longer be supported next year?

@DarkKniight89 my thoughts as well. I've read the OS can't be updated so the first generation is stuck on Android 11. A device that expensive should be at least be given the possibility of getting updates. So far, no news about any upcoming updates, apparently. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@BERO73 I don't know much about Andriod but with iPhone it needs updates or else it gets slow and crashes and stuff.
I'm thinking about buying the Palma 2 and just try it out. If I don't like it then I can return it in a week or sell it to someone else. As long as the apps still run smoothly for 5 to 10 years (as long as the screen doesn't break) then it's worth the buy.
My main reason for this is to send messages to my friends on a e-ink device to save my eyes from the pain I get with LCD screens

@@BERO73 it would cut the price down big time. It’s ridiculous at its current price point.

Having followed Boox devices for years, the device immediately after whichever one you own is rarely worth the upgrade, but two devices later often is. So if there's a Palma 3 there's a decent chance it'll be worth it, but the 2 isn't worth it if you have the original. This was also true for my Note Air2. The 3 wasn't even sort of worth it, but the 4 is a major upgrade.

Yes I was thinking the 3rd version will probably be a better option as well.

I just got my Boox Palma 2 and I love it! I love the weight and the form factor and the Android base for running multiple multiple book apps. I have Galaxy phone to make calls, text, run other apps, take pictures, and listen to music and audio books. I use the Palma 2 for reading books, which I do every day. I only wish that Boox would issue one with no camera to keep the cost lower, and please do not make it a phone.I can't speak to the difference over the Palma 1 but I do have an opinion on keeping upgrades to a minumum.

Glad you hear you like it. I think the Boox Palma is a great device. Either version is great 👍

As someone waiting patiently for the coveted e-ink phone, Im eager and optimistic to see where they go from here.
While this is not the device I wanted but I understand the logistical practicality of minor refreshes to keep sales consistent. I do like that they're marketing this as a lifestyle device! Rather than just an ultra-portable ebook reader. To me, this says that they're perceiving the growing digital health crowd

I like that they are leaning into the digital minimalism mindset as well. They are great devices and I hope one day it will be a phone.

Do we know if the Palma can be updated to the current version of Android?
If no, is that going to be a security issue when it’s no longer supported?

I'm thinking about getting the Boox Palma *1 or 2*.
I want it to send messages to my friends instead of using my smartphone.
    (Messenger, WhatsApp, ect)
I heard that I would have to get the Palma 3 to stay protected when that time comes around.
This should help my eyes with eyestrain and ruining my eyesight.
Is it possible to change the font size?
My 10+ year old kindle let's me change the font size a lot so I can read easier with bigger size.
I still want to get the Mudita Kompakt too when that comes out.
I want to be done with LCD screens for close up viewing.
Also want a E-Ink laptop monitor, those are expensive but the biggest I've seen is 13 inches, 17 inch would be great!

    • @LauraMalvoyante
      @LauraMalvoyante  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

Yes you can make the font size bigger. It works great for Whatsapp and messenger. I would love to get an e-ink monitor for my computer but it costs thousands. A good compromise is a matte screen. I use a ThinkPad P52 laptop and MSI matte screen for a second screen.

Does the Palma 2 sync with the other books devices? Folders, notes etc.

This is a good question. I don't have another Boox device to test this.

Thanks for the update! I can't wait to find out if this will support Android Auto, since the first version wouldn't. If it does I might get one to use as a phone replacement. WiFi for calling through apps instead of an actual phone number. Minimalism and more security in one device! 😁

I'm not familiar with this device so thanks for bringing the device to my attention, I like that E-Ink devices are still relevant for the eyes its great as for me I cannot use Oled screens because it causes terrible eye strain and migraines. Have you seen TCL Nxt paper smart phones?

Boox palma did the advertising to introduce me to the company, I just want an eReader. Manga? Comics? Writing? Scrolling? Literally any of the six other screens I own are better than eink for that. Found the go 6 for nearly half the price as the palma and I really like the form factor. I get the palma's size but it's so redundant to me to pay extra for a device that feels like a phone to carry alongside your phone, spend less, get a unique form factor and enjoy eink for what it's supposed to do, load an image and then refresh into a new one.
