-Hey man I really like your channel. You have a nice gentle chilled out delivery, and I don't even play RPG's but you're making them interesting for me. Red Cow sent me here and I'm very glad they did. Thanks for all the hard work and looking forward to enjoying more of your stuff in the future. I pay for TH-cam so I hope you make more money from that than adsense. All the best from Ireland!

It always amazes me that a lot of "modern" game mechanics have been around a lot longer then people realize.

Right? So many people have never heard of "roguelikes" outside of the bastardized version it is now.

Yeah. This game is a ripoff of a 1980 game, just with the serial numbers filed off, and Dragon Quest painted over top.

Super fun concept, in most RPG’s we only play the hero, here we get to play the shop keeper, I wonder what other roles would be a fun character to explore

Maybe a restaurant simulator where you have to make food for the countless "heroes"? hahaha
I guess once you have a rogue like you can do almost any profession. Because like, where the chef gets the ingredients? From the forest or the dungeon, so one of the kitchen people have to explore it and bring the ingredients and then you make the food for the "heroes" lets say.
If im not mistaken theres a game where you do something like this, called battle chef brigade, but i didnt play it so i dont know how close of this idea the game is.

I mean it’s too short to be it’s own game. If you want to play the shop keeper play chapter 3 of Dragon Quest IV. You have to play 2 chapters before which are basically remakes of the first two Dragon Quest games but much shorter and less grindy. But just play Dragon Quest IV in general, it’s a great game. Although the best way to play it on IOS/android as it has party chat which adds so much characterization.

The wife probably controls your items since traditionally in Japan, wives manage household finances. Disgruntled husbands and comedy describe their position as being another child that that the wife gives allowance too. Given the facts of both sides, I'm not really sure what to believe, but this wouldn't be the first time something like this influenced a game mechanic. Boos in Mario are directly inspired by director Takashi Tezuka's wife who would get pissed when he'd work overtime and come home late, despite being supposedly a normally sweet woman

Lol damn, Torneko's wife doubled the length of this game then

It is traditionally that way in China too and sort of still is.
Yes giving your husband an 'allowance' after he brings home his salary, is very common.
See this is why I fell out of favor with asian females. You think 'bossy' and 'controlling' are unique to western women?.... *cough*

Did you play other mystery dungeon games like Shiren the Wanderer?

  • @SecretSquaff

"Mystery Dungeon" games are typically Rogue-likes. This means levels and gear will reset between dungeon visits. Torneko's Great Adventure is just truer to the namesake than pokemon.

Yo you guys should also try moonlighter
Its basically this game, but a indie game and the main character has white anime hair so its obviously better lol

the playstation game, the sequel to this game, is better.
I played through most of the content of that game, though some of the challenges are frustrating but that's the point those are optional.

So how frustrating is this game? Reviews make it sound too maddening to play.

    • @JasonGravesPoser

If you can accept a lot of inevitable dying it's not too maddening

Nah it's a great game and one of the best on the SNES.

    • @MerkhVision
      @MerkhVision 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@bblovely7788 maybe it's not so bad, but "one of the best on the SNES" is a MASSIVE reach lol. There are so many great games for the SNES, and most of them are probably better. This game is fine, but the SNES has too good of a library lol.
