  • Join Dr. Van Dyken and Nathan Bryan PhD as they discuss the nitty gritty of nitric oxide. Dr. Bryan is one of the worlds foremost experts in nitric oxide and a leader in nitric oxide research. He is an adjunct professor at Baylor Medical College in Houston Texas. He is an avid researcher and has made seminal discoveries in the nitric oxide field, which have resulted in dozens of US and international patents related to nitric oxide. He is the cofounder of a company called humanN, as well as a line of nitric oxide products called N1O1. As if this isn’t enough, he is a prolific writer. He has authored five books including one titled “the nitric oxide (NO) solution.” He has authored numerous papers on nitric oxide, which have been highly cited. In this interview, we discuss a spectrum of nitric oxide topics, including the study Dr. Bryan is spearheading looking at nitric oxide lozenges and COVID-19 in African American and Hispanic populations. We also discuss using nitric oxide as a wound agent and even in cosmetics. It’s a great interview!

You were the first I saw about humming and nitric oxide about a month ago. I e been doing this 15 min routine pretty much twice a day w forgetting on occasion. I also started wearing nose spreaders again at night w the addition Of mouth tape. I’m not much of a mouth breather like my hubby is but I’m sure I do at times during the night. Let me tell you I sleep so well. I wake up feeling refreshed not tired and groggy all day just by doing these 2 simple things to my routine. I thought the mouth tape would feel awful but it’s great. I can’t get over the difference. I’m 61yo, female and good sleep of course becomes more precious. There’s very few things I can say “wow, I notice” this is one.

I use the snorelab app to monitor my sleep and see significant reduction in durations and loudness of snoring with greater than 10 minutes of humming prior. Also my sinuses open up and it's just easier to breathe.
I always use mouth tape at night, too.

@@socrates1818 don’t know. I’m not the person to ask. All I did was say how humming and being more conscious of breathing through your nose rather than your mouth has been helpful and I think at night forcing yourself to breath through your nose has helped the most. Eating not drinking kale is important and how he says chewing all your fruits and veggies is vital to drinking them. Using no mouthwash, or fluoride toothpaste but a more natural one. That’s all I know or got from the interview

Wouldn’t introducing N.O. to the people with co-morbidities have protected the vulnerable during the pandemic? My understanding to date is, when we breath through the nose, our body infuses the incoming oxygen supply with N.O to neutralize pathogens that could attach themselves to the epithelial lining of the lungs. I am a simple layperson trying to understand things way above my pay grade in order to support my natural immune system.

The cells inside maxillary sinuses produce a ton of NO, so when we breathe through our nose, NO goes to work; when we have sleep apnea and/or breathe through our mouth we don’t get the benefit of NO

Talk about wound care, years ago our sweet elderly neighbor had, to a 10 year old, an absolutely frightening diabetic wound that went to the bone. The doctor was coming everyday to clean and dress it. My mother, who was a nurse by training, helped him. The doctor was having no luck getting good healing. He told my mother that this lady was going to need amputation. My mother asked, will you give me a week to see what she could do for Miss Carrie? The doctor agreed. So, Mum and I, every night went to Miss Carrie's house. Along with us, we took a huge bag of white domino sugar. I would pour it directly into the wound after we cleaned it. Wrap it up and come back the next day. At the end of the week, the doctor came to find the wound was almost totally healed. The doctor was surprised. Miss Carrie went on to live a long life.

Well, I've heard him say that most beetroot products, - the powders I think he is referring to, specifically - have no nitrate and no nitrite, but I don't see how that could be possible. Is he misspeaking intentionally to draw people toward his product? If fresh beets have a good amount of nitrate, - then I don't see why the dried powder products would all have zero nitrate/nitrite - unless it all was degraded and released into the air during the drying process. - Do all these companies not test their own products for nitrate/nitrate content? It would be disappointing for someone who speaks so many true statements, seemingly with good intention, to not be above lying - about other products to sell his own.

I think mehemoglobinemia in covid patients is a concern and a regular pulse oximeter won't pick it up. Covid patients often seem strangely unaware of and unaffected by their hypoxemia (still able to talk, use their cell phone). So if making attempts to treat covid with NO, please use a co-oximeter.
