  • This video features a rare and wonderful Brownface 1963 Fender Deluxe Amp, with the 6G3 circuit, in the workshop for a tune up. Highlights include a bias supply overhaul, primary circuit re-wiring, Tremolo speed reduction, and creation of a switchable NFB loop. At the end of repairs, a detailed audio demo session is provided, courtesy of Jack & Ollie, the furry troubadours.
    Our Part 2 video is a trip to the unique and interesting foothills of Mt. Cristo Rey in Sunland Park, NM. Your crazy old uncle has some fun hiking on dusty, historic trails, explaining strange geological structures and briefly discussing his origins in the sunny Southwest.....all to be taken with a grain of salt ;)

    The tour reminds me of Laughlin AFB in Delightful Del Rio, where I was stationed for 3 1/2 years. Would you believe that when I got there, the "security fence" comprised two-strand barbed wire designed only to keep livestock off the flightline? It was useless for keeping illegals out; the coyotes would tell them to cross the Rio Grande (about three miles away), head toward our beacon light, turn to the right once they saw houses, and catch the freight train to San Antonio. Every night during the summer, my pager would go off after the SPs caught groups of illegals on our installation. By the time I left, they'd built a proper perimeter fence with all the trimmings. The illegal problem stopped. It appears that fences and walls actually work.

    • @UncleDoug
      @UncleDoug  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, they do, Bevo. The huge, privately-funded border fence that got so much publicity is close to where the video was made. I may take you all there in the near future......it is quite a sight to behold, and it does work.

      Uncle Doug I can only dream of owning a beautiful tube amp like this. I’m in Australia, so to find them is very rare and ultimately just too expensive for myself. I own and perform with a Fender Hot Rod Deville III and knowing your thoughts on PCB I don’t expect to ever see a video by your good self on this amp but wondering if you may have any suggestions to improve this model of amp? Tube types or brands? Filter cap upgrades? Speaker brand or models? Anything that would bring it closer to what you would consider to be an amplifier of quality and or note. I realise that by design this amp will never be to your standards but hope that you may have just some thoughts on possible improvements that I may undertake so as to benefit in some small way from your knowledge and experience. A man has to ask at least. Thanks again.

    As I was saying push pull with another pair that was Hot. Very hot for a transistor. Turned out that that transistor had practically no thermal compound under the mica spacer and my component tester read it as unknown or damaged. I replaced all four transistors with generous amounts of thermal compound. Thank you so very much for the hike into the mountains. Sure makes me homesick, but in a good way. I used to bring home pockets full of sea shell fossils, drove my mother crazy. Kind of hard on the washing machine. Another great repair, looking forward to the next adventure in amplification.

    "Well have mercy, Been watin' for the bus all day.....". I love that old ZZ Top stuff, Particularly that one. As a transit operator, otherwise known as a bus driver, I am the guy driving the expected and sometimes long awaited bus. I just finished watching this very informative video and having watched many of your videos , I have to tell you that it's all starting to "gel " for me. I am spotting differences in various circuits that were not obvious to me before and really understanding the differences they make. You are a great teacher. I live in the northeast , and really enjoyed the tour and geology lesson at the end. Thanks and my best to you and your family (Jack and Ollie too).

    This really kind of a holy grail amp? Splits the difference between Tweed and Blackface, and KILLER Tremelo. Love watching the TLC you give these amps, and learning what makes them tick.
    Like that you slowed this Trem Speed down. Sounds deep and magical! Like that you used the ground lift switch to give the negative feedback loop an on/off switch.
    Really like this amp!
