      If that is truly a picture of you, there is nothing wrong with your looks. I would say you are good looking. Since you are not a good judge of your looks my guess is that you are not a good judge of your intelligence either. Do you know that intelligence is mostly a measurement of how much you have learned in life? People say I am intelligent but I love to learn and I read voraciously so I know a little about a lot of things. But really I am not smarter by nature than anyone else and I am dumber than many others in many subjects. So if you want to increase your "intelligence" just increase your knowledge. :)

    My vocal range is from C3 to G5, but I was actually wondering if I’m a contralto or an alto, so I sent a voice recording (of me singing a song) to my niece who is a voice teacher. This was the feedback I received:
    I finally got a moment to really listen to your recording- you sound lovely!! My vote would be alto because of how clear and ringy your middle and upper notes were sounding. Contraltos tend to be really rare (at least in the classical/operatic world), but I think the main takeaways from voice parts are that it’s not really about what notes you can and can’t reach, but what sounds and most importantly feels the best!! (Especially with our grad students you can hear altos with very high notes that sing alto because it’s where they feel best and sound best in most music. :)) 3:14

    The lowest I can go is D2(fry) the highest is D6 (head voice once in a while when I want to)........ my prime voice is in between C3 (comfortable low) - F#4 (belt) ..... i consider myself as a Baritone since i have that depth in low register and my speaking voice. Some argue that I'm just an undeveloped Tenor because when i go higher my voice is starting to get brighter but it doesn't sound authentic to my voice.

    Can you help? I’ve become exhausted after training for 8 days now. I’ve been
    preparing for a song I’m recording that was sent to me by a successful writer
    and producer in Europe. Each time I’ve recorded, I’ve not liked the sound of these
    two A notes that are at he top of my range. I have a lovely Neuamnn mic but that’s
    just highlighting how much I don’t like the sound of those two notes.
    I’ve already tried to change the note into something else in the hope that the writer
    will think my version is better and not notice I can’t hit the A notes! When I used an
    analyser to check the pitch, it was fine...I just don’t like the way it sounds.
    After so many days of trying, I feel exhausted and less motivated to finish. The song is really beautiful and don’t normally like the melody and the lyrics. I can’t afford to fail here but the anxiety is getting so bad I’m not sleeping either. Shall I keep doing the exercises or should I take a few days off? I love your coaching. No issue there.

  • @catalystguitarguy

    I’ve had a very entertaining vocal journey. As a kid singing soprano was easy. Early puberty was alto and tenor, once the testosterone hit it dropped to bass-baritone with most of my upper register staying in head or mixed voice. Then college was all bass. My voice has gotten progressively lower and wider over time.
    Now I’m in my 30s and I can sing in the 1st and 2nd octaves all day and in the 0’s with subharmonics. I can hit notes still in the 6th octave most days with high falsettos or breaking into whistle. But that wears out real quick and is a strain.
    But always is fun to break out a Mariah Carey or Mr. Big song at karaoke as a 6’4” bald guy with a big red beard after introducing myself in a deep bass speaking voice.
    I appreciate seeing videos making it easier for more people to understand their ranges and learn where to sing to avoid strain or injury.

      Im 26 , is there hope i get lower than Bb2/A2 ?

    • @catalystguitarguy
      @catalystguitarguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ivblizzard3616 TL;DR: Yes there is hope, but no certainty. there are so many factors that determine that.
      Longer:
      bass voices tend to get lower with age. You can always learn alternate techniques for extended lower range too. like subharmonics, chest fry so long as you don't go overboard and hurt yourself by doing too much in one go. it takes a lot of practice for those to be practical/usable or have much stamina.
      for lower range it's mostly biology determining your lower limit, can usually train and practice for higher notes though.
      I'm always trying to figure out how or if I can get lower and so far at 34, my voice has crept down a bit more every year or two roughly another semitone or thereabout.
      Just figure out your limits of safely and comfortably singing, and avoid straining or forcing yourself too low. in my experience you're more likely to do harm forcing lower than reaching up higher. and training your upper range and lower range alternating tends to help balance out overall vocal control on the other extreme.

    • @catalystguitarguy
      @catalystguitarguy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      and most importantly if it hurts, stop. don't damage or strain your voice it's counter productive and can cause lasting damage.
