For the uninitiated, The reason the Murky Hand Scythe is so disgustingly overpowered is simple
For whatever godforsaken reason the Murky Hand Scythe and Harpe have Class 2 Hitstun on thier first 2 Handed R1
The reason for this is assumed that when making the Harpe, to make it do slash damage it inhereted values from Katanas, yet they completely forgot to modify the hitstun on the weapon. And when making the MHS they simply copypasted the same code over and modified the damage values.
that Class 2 Hitstun when combined with a Dagger speed creates a really disgusting situation where Staggered R1s are nigh inescapable, you can't parry, block, attack or weaponart out if an MHS / Harpe user staggers R1s with proper timing, leaving the ONLY option to escape the weapon rolling, but of course its a dagger, so panic rolling is only gonna get you rollcaught and put back into purgatory which forces you to have to react roll a DAGGER which is nigh impossible.
On top of that, with a 26 Str 60 fth build and the Dark Blade buff this things damage output is higher than most light weapons in the game allowing you to trade into them, with Class 2 Hitstun, and because daggers are so fast, you can confirm a SECOND 2hR1 even on TRADE and STILL have Hit priority after, which forces your opponent to back off.
All of that ON TOP of being able to Quickstep Cancel R1s to absolutely dump on poise weapons.
For that reason this weapon is actually banned completely in high level tournaments.
As the game would just devolve into Quickstepping MHS vs Quickstepping MHS
In essence this thing takes very little skill input from the user yet is quite literally matchup wise UNBEATABLE.
So yeah, its banned for good reason.
Please dont do this in the arena it is pretty much just as toxic as Bowglitching.

It takes a huge investments in stats points to get that 525 AR my friend.
Thanks to modding on PC we actually know why this particular "dagger" and it's less capable twin the Harpe are as broken as they are. XShade YT posted a full explanation above. Short version, the Harpe was created using Katana damage calculations, so it has higher hit stun on its 2h R1 than any other weapon under 5 weight. The MHS is a clone of the Harpe with a different damage table but same calculations and animations.

@@tezkyflex7304 Blackflame and Homing Soul mass are the answer I think, very annoying and deadly. During ganks things like Chaos bed vestige and soul crystal spear are far more dangerous since you often can't avoid everything they throw at you if you get hit once by something.
@@blackflame1592 oh right forgot about those, and all the things like affinity or lightning arrow that you can basically release any time making it hit almost every time cuz nobody knows when you are going to release it, no telegraphic movement in a game that is about telegraphic movement. Sorry went on a little rant there cuz i realized how bs spells are at times.
@@tezkyflex7304 Nah, it's justified. Because these things are kind of bullshit you might consider always having something in your arsenal to hardcounter these things, the crest shield for example has really good lightning absorption if I remember correctly. So your opponent deals like 10 damage with his lightning arrow. Side strafing can help aswell as long as the connection isn't too bad.
can confirm the murky hand scythe's pretty disgusting. just the other day I got wrecked by someone using it buffed with Darkmoon Blade spamming the Quickstep weapon art 😂
just spam millwood battle ax weapon art, it will stun them out of it.
Not only does it have quick step, it stuns on the second hit. also alote of the players that run this build have delay its basically impossible to counter even shields take chip damage unless there running magic shield 😑

This is why you always carry a Scimitar or Pontiff Knight Curved Sword. The two handed moveset is STILL even faster out of hit stun than the dagger. Plus, it does well at hitting the opponent during the Quickstep
Other options are Caestus perseverance + L1s, but be careful they don't backstab.
I can't believe this weapon invalidates 90% of the weapons in this game 1v1

First murky r1 comes out faster than curve sword out of hit stun. I’m like 99% sure of this. Murky is literally the best counter to any curved sword imo
Caestus check, i prefer lothric straightsword over curved swords tho for that extra range. Locked off and backing the hell up, catch them out of quickstep when they use it to get close.

One of thew few weapons that is almost always banned in tournaments. PKCS is fine, but Murky is too much. That alone pretty much tells you everything you need to know about Murky (and Harpe).
Also if I run into somebody running dark blade on murky in the next few weeks, I know who I will blame :P

Put the Greatshield in the right hand and do the 'kick' animation. It'll block and stun so you can L2 with a straightsword in the left hand

That wont save you, you still wont get hit priority on block so like it can still pressure you forever

6:20 Occasionally when someone defends DS3's poise, I like to show them stuff like this. At least you need Stone Ring and/or power-stancing to stun-lock like that in DS2.

Aquamarine Dagger is tied for one of my 2 favorite weapons in the game, and for very good reason. I'll have to try this one out on my Pyro Build.
Also, you should totally try out Moonlight Greatsword or Greatsword of Judgement if you haven't yet!

This thing is disgusting. Something you didn't mention is that it and the harpe actually have *more* hitstun than other daggers. Complete bullshit. Something that curved should not be able to thrust so effectively.

the best way to fight really any dagger is to try and predict when they are going to attack, and instead of parrying attack right before they do. works best with straight swords/ spears. Or just use really unpredictable movement to try and take your opponent off guard

Ah, so this is why I've seen so many of this exact build in the arena lately. Managed to kill some with Caestus perseverance and parries, but god it's a nightmare to deal with.

I've often found one of the best ways to counter it is to equip a SS and just go to town. They'll try to quickstep it but you'll hit them after 3 swings. I've made a lot of dagger users switch off of daggers just by using SS.

Be forewarned IF YOU USE THIS WEAPON IN ANY CAPACITY, esp with Tears, be prepared for gangbang point-downs. This weapon is fundamentally broken and not even in raw AR its poise-breaking alone is absurd when you consider the attack speed. The stunlock is

Never saw you really use it in the video but the murky r1 > r1 is a true combo, then if you rollcatch you get the true combo again. This true combo is unique only to the murky and harpe as it can be rolled against other daggers
I cleared the whole game and both DLC with blood infused Bandit dagger. With 50 luck it has 75 bleed, so most bosses bleed on few hits and you can get multiple bleeds out on 1 combo and almost every boss in the game bleeds and the more HP they have, the harder they bleed.
King of storms was tricky because its hard to hit the drake's head with the daggers reach.. but he bleeds they both bleed..to death.
Demon Prince was cakewalk, his massive hp goes down so fast with bleed..bandit knife just melts.
pretty great for pvp also, the quick step to attack to quick step is near instant,
been here since 20k subs, still enjoy being here

Tbf there are things you can do to nullify buffs put onto the weapons, namely the charm. Its annoying for sure in the arena but in an invasion its hardly a meta weapon due to the need to buff it and a lack of HA on anything. Good tool for fighting turtles though, and good on any build for that purpose alone
My main character is a high int/faith build and I have a maxed murky scyth with a dark fusion. But I can't remember the last time I actually equipped that weapon. I used to just use it as a secondary weapon or if I had a player that kept dodging whatever weapon I was using as a main. It's not really my Kind of weapon either.

It would be especially cool if you held the hand scythe with the blade end facing down and you rip at them when you attack
Also straight swords if you have good poise is a good counter.

The only tactic I have found to work is to run the fuck away and try to turn-n-burn on them. mixing it up with avelyn, and both a left and right weapon helps alot. Even then results are pretty mixed. requires wayyy too much preparation and strategy for inconsistent results.

I saw frayed blade and thought oh that could catch him...This is darksouls though.
As a side note corvian does well against it, thrust damage deals more at the end of the quickstep animation, and can be timed after they start quickstep. I'm not sure if claymore is fast enough, maybe JeeNine has info on it but I haven't seen a specific video on it so I doubt claymore can beat the best of players with it. It's very sad when a player looses while using murky on a dedicated build.

Quickstep daggers are my weapon of choice for low-SL ganks. Though I prefer a Poison Bandit Knife because it takes about 1000hits from me to deplete their health
Btw. Straightsword R1 spam is a possible counter for this

I think the murky hand scythe is Op also has to do with its high damage and how quickly you can get r1's out with it.
It forces panicked reactionary play. But I see chase doing a lot of the same moves every murky hand scythe player uses. Although he is less eager to do rolling r1's. But once you're onto them they become quite harmless if you can get over panic reacting to the weapon

Every other weapons under the dagger class is so hard to counter in the arena. Quickstepping to the side for memeeeeeees. Seriously tho, everytime I fight against a person with a dagger, I have to time my attacks when they quick step :< so sad yet interesting to fight against HAHAHAHA
You have to visit the statue and peeform absolution of sin after using this weapon.

I remember one time I fought a MHS user with a chaos dagger and accidentally broke his guard while he was blocking to stagger his r1s, he got one shot.
I always keep this equipped, however I only ever use it against gankers, glitchers etc basically I only use the cheese to kill the cheese

Just got ganked the other day by 5 people (2 dark spirits 2 Aldriches and the host) and some were using this weapon. Oh the stun lock is so much fun to deal with.
I’d say it’s a great last ditch escape weapon when you’re surrounded or outnumbered
