    Awesome video man. I’d love to see more of these for other Midwest trails, you really gave great information for trip preparations for this trail.

    I’d love to know your camping stop points for the two nights trip. I am about to go and I am nervous I won’t finish the best part of the trail.

    Your video was great and have inspired my group. We have paddled the entire lower Wisconsin River and looking for another activity. When traveling the 7 hour plane crash trail would a small sport utility vehicle like an all wheel drive Ford Escape be durable and have enough ground clearance with good all season tires able to make it from Crandon Wi to Copper Harbor MI?

    Nice video, I'm planning on driving the top 2/3 of the trail next weekend. I saw on the facebook group they say that you have to take an alternate route for a bridge out near drummond. Did you find that the 2015 gpx files were still pretty accurate?

    Great info! We did it this summer and I completely agree with everything you say here. We did it in 3 days on the trail with 4 nights camping at the start and end of the trail and would have liked another day to explore.

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Couldn't agree more. This route is fun and I would have loved to make this a 4 day and 4/5 night trip. Even if the last day was just kayaking around up North.

    I did the 7 Hour Plane Crash Trail in Wisconsin vs the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail. Its a nice alternative and hope you get to check it out.

      How'd you like it? That's on my list as well and I've already downloaded on Gaia. May try this Fall or next year.

      HighjakSecondary it’s very scenic, just be careful if it’s rained a lot as there is some water depending.

      @@HighjakSecondary Keep in mind that there is an updated version of the 7 hour plane crash trail. On the old GPX file the trail goes over ATV trails north of Calumet. Here you can find a newer version which we have modified with help of Illinois Overlanders members: illinoisoverlanders.com/7-hour-plane-crash/

    Nice video. I've done 70% of this route on my motorcycle a couple years ago. Curious if 'wild' camping is an option along the route. Not advocating that but I could see issues finding campsites at various times.

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! As far as I know, there are only a couple 'free' first come first serve sites along this route and we didn't end up close enough to use them. As far as dispersed camping, that seems to be a bit more difficult to do in the midwest. That is my preferred camping method too.

  • @lae52

    An interesting video. What is it about people feeling they need a hand gun to deal with black bears? There are no grizzlies which can get seriously aggressive in Wi.

    • @pillarwatch
      @pillarwatch ปีที่แล้ว

      A black bear just last fall broke into a home and attacked a couple in northern Wi., fortunately one of them was able to get to the gun and put it down.

  • @danielmiller5956

    For the camping, were the sites first-come first-serve? Did you pay for the sites when you arrived?

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the above. We didn't pay in advance, but some of them operate that way. We were lucky to just show up and get into the site we did the first night, but everything else was first come first serve from there on out.

  • @Stonew24
    @Stonew24 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video. Were there areas where you could pull over and camp, as opposed to finding a camp site? I have a roof tent also and wondering if possible to pull over and just camp. Thanks

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. Unfortunately dispersed camping is not really available in nearly all of the midwest. Scouting some camp sites, arriving early to first serve sites, or getting a reservation is a good idea.

    one of my buddies put me onto this trail and it looks like a ton of fun but, i don't think full-sized trucks like an f150 or ram 1500 would fit on those roads the best.

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A full size rig would be fine. That tight overgrown section would be a bit of a squeeze though, but it'd fit assuming you don't mind pinstriping.

    How’d the Tacoma handle all the weight in the back?

    • @HighjakSecondary
      @HighjakSecondary  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just fine, but over time the rear leaf springs have not loved it. I'll be upgrading suspension sooner rather than later to include a new leaf pack. I keep around 350lbs extra in the rear daily.

    The Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (TWAT) was created by off-road motorcyclists for use by other off-road motorcyclists. Not for ATV riders or truck drivers. Please drive elsewhere. Related, the Trans Illinois Trail (TIT) was likewise created for off-road motorcyclists only. Thanks.

    Since you’re a gun owner, I suggest you do some investigation on the owner of the beer you advertised at the beginning of your video.

      @@HighjakSecondary Yes, advertising was the wrong choice of words. Featuring would have been better, since it it was shown at beginning and end. The product is sound, the management may not be the most firearm/freedom friendly. :)
