- Psychologist Dr. Stephen Trudeau explains the three things that a good therapist does during treatment. Finding a therapist can be challenging, however, making sure you choose a psychotherapist that can align with your values in terms of growth. Discussion of the therapist creating a safe container which emotions can exist which allows the client to vent their inner world of emotions and thoughts. Mirroring for the client, reflecting what is shared and discussed allowing the client to process in real time their issues. Finally working on teaching skills, self soothing, meditation, mindfulness, challenging erroneous beliefs, through homework assignments that facilitate the client putting skills into action creating real behavioral changes.
