I am an inquirer in the OCA here in Virginia since leaving the RCC 8 weeks ago, and one thing I've noticed about the Orthodox people I meet is that they have such peace in their hearts! As a Catholic I was always worried and upset about what the hierarchy was doing--upset and embarrassed. In the interview when that sweet Deacon said that when he became Orthodox for the first time in his life he was looking at something real, it brought tears of joy to my eyes. I am beginning to see it, too. May God help us all seek the peace that only He can give through His One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. God bless you all.
The devil slams against the Church from without and within. That there are wolves and modernists in the Church and the Vatican, and corrupt people seeking power is true. The reality is that there were, are, and always will be liars, hypocrites, adulterers, thieves, murderers, perverts, traitors and all sort of scoundrels among both the laity and the clergy, beginning with Judas Iscariot who was a liar, a thief, a hypocrite and a traitor. Just because there are traitors does not mean the Catholic Church was not founded by Jesus Christ Himself; He Himself spoke about how there will always be weeds among the wheat, but among the wicked there will always be the saintly and those striving for true holiness. One should not confuse religiousness with holiness. The Pharisees were very religious, fasted, gave alms and talked about a God all day, yet God himself called them whitewashed sepulchers. Religiosity without conversion of heart always becomes hypocrisy. But there’s a reason why Christ changed Simon’s name to Peter and told him to feed and tend the flock. That someone would leave the RRC because of the sins of some is to miss the point of the Church.
Frs. Maximos and Ignatius have reposed since and it has become a women’s monastery. When Fr. Ignatius gave me a tour the first time I visited and worked on site, he mentioned one day they planned to incorporate a woman’s monastery on the other side of the property. I knew in that moment, I may one day join them there, but not before they passed. I am blessed it is still a place of constant prayer and worship. It is a lovely place to stay and to work if you have time. They have so much they need done. Pray for the brothers who were there and the nuns who are there.
