When Talyllyn and Dolgoch whistle at each other they sound like two old dogs yapping at one another. Don't know why, possibly because they have 2 different notes, Dolgoch being close to a Caledonian hooter in my opinion. Edward Thomas seems to have a two tone whistle. I like the chime on Douglas. It's like its trying to go 'I'm big, get out the bloody way!' When they all whistled at once, it sounded like a pack of dogs barking away. I know I already did that analogy but it's true dammit.
I know that the Thomas Creatprs went to this railway to make the Narrow Guage Engines look more realistic, and that's just incredible! Plus, Tom Rolt sound EXACYLY like CGI Sir Handel!
But a horn has the most power when it comes to warning people. With great power, comes great responsibility. They’re all about drive, they’re all about power, they stay hungry, they devour, put in the work, put in the hours, and take what’s theirs.
The lower tone whistle is usually a braking whistle, to call the guard to give braking assistance. The higher pitch is typically the regular warning whistle.
Talyllyn sounds like a Number 2 Furness Railway Engine. Dolgoch sounds like Donald and Douglas’ basis. Sir Haydn kinda sounds like Merlin and Theo’s whistle. Edward Thomas sounds like Talyllyn’s. Midlander’s is the most interesting. Douglas sounds like Stepney’s basis. It also kinda sounds like an A4 Pacific. Tom Rolt sounds like Sir Handel’s Season 10-CGI whistle, as well as the Friendship Express from My Little Pony. Tom Rolt’s low whistle sounds like an LMS Black Stanier, Henry’s basis. Alf is also kinda interesting. And Trecwn and St. Cadfan sound like Paxton’s horn.
@@bussesandtrains1218 he doesn't, and he's incorrect. Tallylyn has a similar whistle to a Rheidol Tank. The real K2s carried the standard FR whistle, the same one on 0-4-0 Number 20.
I have this theory about how Sir Haydn got her whistle and someone who knows more about the Talyllyn could confirm it for me. So in the Railway Roundabout special on the Talyllyn, they stated that there was a former LNER driver who worked there in the early days (forgot his name, sorry.). Either way, I think that the man took the whistle from one of the A4s before it was scrapped and later, somehow, fitted it to Sir Haydn. Not sure if it's true, someone could confirm it for me.
I believe Sir Haydn is fitted with a BR Britannia class whistle, while ones like Edward Thomas are fitted with whistles from 2 GWR Castle class locos and Douglas is fitted with a whistle from a LNER A4

In addition to that, trecwn, and or st cadfan are likely a reference to the mysterious ministry of defense engine, since both of them used to work in a ministry of defense depot converted out of an old mine, or in the case of sodor, the old skarloey slate quarry.

Because the No. 8 locomotive Merseysider, and the No. 10 locomotive Bryn Eglwys joined the fleet before and after Alf respectively.
