So how much of a murder/suicide pact would be tolerable? This is what passes for sanity in Kremlin circles. Who will have a statue marked "started the last glorious war accidentally while trying to sharpen a pencil." Old joke: At the end of a nuclear war, humanity is wiped out or nearly so, no city still stands, and in the sky, two pilots (one from each side) decide to collide and die rather than survive. Seeing the explosion from the ground, one ape turns her head to face another ape, saying with resignation, "Well, here we go again!"

Putin knows exactly what happens when he uses WMDs. After being warned by Trump about using chemical weapons in Syria, the US hit Russian aircraft bases and Wagners. Putin immediately backed off. He will know the same will happen x 100 if he uses nukes of any sort. Every Russian military base would be a smoking crater and not a nuke in sight.

The biggest fallacy is the idea that if Washington chickens out no nuclear war ensues. Like...France has nuclear missles, UK has nuclear missles...evn Turkey and the Neatherlands have some nuclear capacity, the chances that a strike won't be responded to are minimal. The life-ending posibilities are huge!

Emotionally, I'm sliding rapidly toward saying fkit and wishing we'd launch a counter-force surprise preemptive attack, betting they can't actually retaliate before our missiles land, and hoping first that we know where most of their subs and mobile launchers are snd second that most of any warheads they manage to launch are duds. Realistically I know that's irresponsible but it seems logical.

    • @diegog1853
      @diegog1853 ปีที่แล้ว +25

@@j.f.fisher5318 A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. And we must be very clear about that... because sentences like that, like the one you just said, is exactly the reasons why they might also think a preemptive nuclear strike is a good idea.
This is an extremely tricky situation and there is really no easy way out of it.
But the best answer right now seems to be just continuing to support ukraine... probably in better more drastic manners. So that Russia is expelled from ukraine and we can live in peace back to the status quo.

It's just empty fear rhetoric. Russia knows how leaky their military is so an actual pre-emptive strike plan wouldn't work. Rather, NATO would be highly motivated to preempt any actual preemptive strike plan because it plays 100% to NATO's strengths with stealth and total air dominance. So sorry to hear this. I did something similar. I was in China for the worst of COVID-19, though, so my reaction seemed a lot more sensible given the kinds of things happening, people being welded into their houses without any food etc. There was an elderly couple that jumped out of their window together and committed suicide...So sad. I don't blame Russia, though. None of this happened in isolation. I expect Russia to behave like a scumbag, I don't expect that from our own politicians. That was the scariest part for me, the whole whole world was turning into one big dictatorship. At least you still have your baby, God bless you both. I lost everything. A wife to suicide and my three boys to the aftermath. I don't even know why I'm still alive. I've been searching for a reason, still can't find one. Give your kiddo a big hug. Love them. It can all be over in the blink of an eye. It's only now that I'm sitting here alone that I realize all those terrible times during Covid? ****Those**** were the GOOD times. At least I was together with my family and the way forward seemed clear at the time. Now, I hardly know what day it is, or where I'm supposed to go. I truly wish all the best for you and your baby. btw, preemptive nuclear attack was USA strategy throughout all Cold War up to early 80s, when USSR deployed next gen early warning systems, which ensured most missiles were able to launch while US missiles were still in flight. That idea made preemptive strike pointless: nukes would hit empty silos.

NATO is the ultimate red line. As much as NATO members might talk about aiding Ukraine, Taiwan, whoever, they are ultimately still outsiders that could be sacrificed if the damage incurred otherwise would be too big. NATO WILL send aid, if only to increase the attrition suffered by their enemies, but may also just sit on the sidelines.
But if you attack a NATO country - and not just accidentally like happened with the rockets hitting Poland when they were fired on Ukraine but an actual serious first strike, especially a nuclear one - it´s game over. You´re at war with all of NATO now and nukes may already be on the way as well as every western weapon system.
Thats why Ukraine wants to become a NATO member so goddamn badly, because they know that its the best safeguard they can possibly get.

You want to know why the Russian’s and other immoral countries exist? We are fighting “dominion’s and higher power’s”. That there are “soulless beings” and after reading this comment, you will be able to see in which area’s of the world they reside. That things were different before the flood of Noah. In Genesis 6 and those old clay jar’s they found in the Qumran Desert, the book of Enoch. That the angel’s sent down to “watch” over mankind, saw “human women were fair” and those angel’s ”fell from their lofty places”. Not only did 1/3 of the angel’s fall from the war in Heaven, that 200-300 fell at this time. That means they had sex. They produced children. Giants and half human, half creature beings. They were the rulers at that time, they were the kings and queens. They are likely in the same positions now. They “are” advanced. Have spaceships and flew around the world and space. That the US Astronaut’s saw building’s and spaceship’s on the moon. NASA just cut the feed to the live event, brushed it off as technical problems. The fallen angel’s took on an “Reptilian image”, the serpent. They were worshipped world wide. That’s why some places have to be seen from the air, like the Nazca Lines and hieroglyphs. They were land markings. Look at the ancient pagan temples, they are chiseled on them. Look at the ancient archaeological findings from the Egyptians, the Hindus, the Mayans, and many more. Read other religion’s ancient writings, they are written there. The aliens and men, with their spaceship’s are carved in stone. In America, we have a “Serpent Mound”. There is a mountain top in Peru that is fashioned into a “Serpent Image”. That the fallen angel’s were messing with human’s DNA. Noah and his family were the only “pure” humans left on earth. The fallen angel’s were trying to destroy the family bloodline of Jesus. That they “mingled with humans’. That they were doing genetic already. That’s why Noah and his family were allowed to escape the deluge and repopulate earth. That they hid the flood story or replaced the character’s of the Bible. Like Nimrod, Noah’s grandson was changed to Gilgamesh. To confuse the people. “Nothing that has been done, that’s not been done before”. They produced “soulless humans”. That in the Bible, when Moses sent in his scout’s into the Promised Land. They told Moses of the Nephilim, the giants. The Hebrew’s were told to “kill everyone”. The old, the women and the children. I couldn’t understand why my loving G-d would say that. They were the “fallen angel’s family members”. Any tribe with “ites” were usually these soulless beings. Like the Sodomites, the Canaanite’s and so on. G-d was trying to save us, again. They still walk with us today. They had enslaved humans to dig for gold. Those pesky fallen angel’s were used to walking on streets of gold. It was not a good time to be human. The giant’s ran out of food. They began to eat humans. Read the book “Man Corn”. That this was not G-d’s plan. Between the fallen angels, man’s sins, the giant’s and them eating us. G-d sent the flood of Noah. The fallen angel’s were chained in the abyss. If you understand, the Bible says “it would happen again”. That those fallen angel’s will be released to reap destruction on mankind in the end times of Revelations. That this story has been around for thousands of years. It’s Satan’s greatest lie, just like the one “he doesn’t exist”. The master’s painted the spaceship’s and alien’s into their paintings. It’s been written in the Bible and other religion’s origins stories. That the aliens come from here, on the interior of this planet, not outer space. That this city/world has been called many names Shamballa, Shangri La, Hades, Xibalba, Sheol, Argartha and many more. That there are entrances around the world. They make a grid around the world, they are called lay lines. They are in the oceans, lakes, rivers and tunnels. They use the water and others, like lava tubes, volcanoes. This is where the aliens come from. US Navy Admiral Byrd found two of them. One in the North Pole. One in the South Pole. He even had a hushed battle with the aliens after WWII in the South Pole. He saw green where there should be ice. He saw prehistoric animals. If you look at the first satellite image of the North Pole, it has a big giant hole there. This is why they don’t let people go to those continents. That Edmond Hailey, of Hailey’s Comet fame, the scientist. He discovered it along with other wise men. Columbus on his way to discover America, had an underwater UFO encounter. Columbus also sailed to an island of “Dogmen” on the way to America too. US Navy recently released video’s of UFO’s/UAP’s, that they were flying into the water. There are many others. I believe that this is where they “hid out” from the deluge, the flood, on the earth. I have read origin’s stories that say “they led us into the interior through caves”. Other’s say “they crawled out of the ocean”. Or they were brought to an island by a “mother ship” and placed there. That these beings will return. That the fallen angels, the demons (drowned dead giant spirits), half human, half creature beings (Bigfoot, Yeti, Dogmen, Mermaids, Fairies, Reptileman, etc.), giants, and the others belong to this family. The Cherokee Indians had a big, red headed giant for their leader. Many other Indian’s have stories of them killing giants. The Paiutes burned several in Loveland Cave. If you study islands, they have many giant bones discovered. The giant’s went to the islands. They were being hunted. It was their last resort. Recently I have been listening to stories of missing people in the US forest and parks. They tell many stories of missing people and the beings they have discovered from the park rangers. Many missing people in just America. Alaska is the worse place to go missing and a lot do. It has the Devil’s Triangle there. Another one of those “places on the lay lines”. When the pit of hell is opened in the apocalypse, these beings are coming out. The Bible says “men’s hearts will fail them”. This is why. They will use “trick’s and wonder’s” to deceive the people into taking the Mark of the Beast, the 666 system. I believe that Satan will come pretending he is the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Bring peace. Understand Jesus is not coming in “peace”. He is coming back as the “Warrior King to conquer Satan”. I recently saw three video’s on TH-cam. One was videoed in the Peru. One was videoed in Mexico. One was in the US. The guy that videoed it was found dead afterwards. They were all of mountain tops. Bare. Except for the giants on them. Those giants were working out, doing push-ups. They are back just like G-d said they would. We are looking at the description of the end times, what is called the “Times of Noah”. G-d bless and protect you, each and everyone of G-d’s children. If you’re not one, better make that choice fast. Before it’s too late. Jesus loves you.

When an madman threatens nuclear war, there is only one possible response: force. Might end up killing everyone but not responding with force will most assuredly end up killing everyone. No point putting it off.
We all learned this. What the hell did they learn?

Same, though I do think the Afghan war was at least morally justified, though still wrong in practice. To me, Ukraine's defense is obviously justified just as clearly as WW2. But this nuclear fear rhetoric is only that. The reason it's empty is because if Russia was planning an actual preemptive strike, it would be extremely contentious in Russia's military ranks (some of them are normal humans) and would leak like a sieve to the CIA and every other intelligence agency. In that case NATO would be highly motivated to preempt that strike plan.
NATO's capability, particularly air and sea power heavily favor a pre-emptive strike and they have LOTS of practice from said wars. Just as an example, one command and all of Russia's subs could be destroyed by their US tails. War is always messy but NATO's stealth and overwhelming airpower heavily favors a pre-emptive strike as a 'response' to Russia planning an a pre-emptive strike and they certainly know that.

I have come to the conclusion after a year of gathering global information that human beings are not capable of managing ourselves on a large scale. Also, good people are only concerned with peace & contentment and will not bother themselves with drama, fights & greed. So as people find inner peace, instead of becoming pillars in the community, they resign to the shadows as having power is problematic, lonely and a headache. This is why we are always left with the only ones who do want power, the ones who are selfish, and inhumane. May God bless those on the ground trying to make a difference! Thank-you 🙏♥️.

They wrongly think the NATO nuclear capability is stricly limited to the US umbrella... UK indeedis said not being able to use its own nuclear weapons without US agreement because they got the technology from them but FRance is fully independant and has its own nuclear submarine launchers : 100 ICBM and 600 nuclear warheads can be fired by its submarines in return even after France has been wiped out by an hypersonic preventive strike for instance. Considering the current statuts of Russian air defense due to Ukraine War that's more than enough to eradicate the whole Russia whose 75% of population is concentrated to dozens of major cities. rest of population in countryside already lives at stone age. The difference was that overt nuclear threats were VERY rare in the Cold War. The USSR understood what it was dealing with and that nuclear bullying would not get them any sort of long-term gains. The gangsters who rule modern Russia are closer to a monkey with a grenade.

There are people/countries who still sympathize with Russia's self-appointed stand against America and the West. They follow the rational that the enemy of my enemy is my friend
Putin relies heavily on this argument: Because Russia desperately needs the moral support of others to justify the atrocities committed now and in the future.
However, the people who buy into Putin's argument, and refuse to vote against Russia or enforce sanctions (India, China, Iran, Brazil and the plethora of African Nations that have historically received Russian support), need to see that an autocratic leader who threatens to use nuclear weapons is the enemy to our planet's survival. We all need to revisit history and remind ourselves how "Autocratic Leaders" have been responsible for the most horrendous mass killings that have taken place on our planet. Pol Pot (1.7M deaths), Hideki Tojo (5M deaths), Leopold II of Belgium (2-15M deaths), Adolf Hitler (17M deaths), Jozef Stalin (23M deaths) and Mao Zedong (49-78M deaths). Left unchecked, Putin and his supporter's are in a prime position to grab the number one spot on this list.
Everyone who refuses to shame Putin is responsible. Why? Failing to express opposition to Putin (an autocratic leader) helps him justify his insane logic of saving the world by starting a nuclear war to destroy the west. Russia's supporters need to look in the mirror and ask themselves ..... Do we have 2-10 years of food and water needed to survive a nuclear winter that makes food production impossible. Do we have the medical ability to deal with the illnesses that will arise from global radiation? Will we regret not doing more to shame Russia, and making it clear that we do not want Russia to save us by starting a nuclear war. A war that could lead to millions and even billions of deaths.
As members of your audience, I believe we have an obligation to share this moral outrage with the world. People think they have no power. However, the expression of moral outrage by every individual may be the best way to shame Putin --- making him see that the entire world rejects his dystopian plan to save the world by starting a nuclear war.

@@ikda12 I think autocracies (and certain politicians) do a better job of distilling their simple vision (i.e., beat the other side) and then repeating the same message over and over. To those who can reason, the repetition of the lie sounds insane. But, strangely, the message resonates with the masses of people who willingly participate in the deception because they want to believe the lie.
The problem is that the consumer of the lie actively rejects the logical reasoning embraced and shared by "critical thinkers."
      Another approach is required.
The alluring, and oft repeated, lie .... is best defended by a universal truth --- that no one can deny.
Here, the simple universal truth is that "The entire world should stand against anyone who endangers humanity's existence by threatening nuclear war to simply further their own colonial and nationalistic ambitions."

Very interesting thoughts! I value your insights and expertise in this matter very highly. Best wishes from Germany!
As for my own experience, something very telling I noticed recently when I was talking with a neighbour about Putin and Ukraine: At one point my neighbour insisted that supplying weapons to Ukraine would only provoke Russia and we should seek negotiations instead, because Putin would, in his mind, enter these negotiations in good faith (already quite naive). When whe came to the nuclear threats, however, he told me that the west risks causing a nuclear war by sending weapons to ukraine and that we should take Putins threats seriuosly because he is unpredictable and somewhat mad.
What he couldn't explain to me is why we should assume that Putin is crazy enough to cause an apocalyptic nuclear war AND sensible enough to enter negotiations honestly after we stopped supplying Ukraine, both at the same time.

France has it written in its plan (and just recently reiterated it) that they will use their nuclear weapons only in defence of their own country, not in defence of other Nato allies. Russia's calculation is that also GB and the US will do the same (even though they have more ambiguity on how they would respond in such a case).

I think France's national security would be compromised by an adversary if that adversary considers nuking its allies.

This nuclear intimidation rhetoric isn't supposed to make rational sense, which is why it doesn't. It's supposed to strike fear in the public; which unfortunately it does. But there is nothing beyond this. Bowing to these empty threats also incentives them to make more. We all know how bully psychology works.
On a strategic level, Russia's dilemma is IF NATO credibly believed Russia was planning a preemptive strike (and it is almost certain the CIA would know), the most rational response would be NATO's own conventional pre-preemptive strike. Russia knows their military intelligence leaks and it is also not a secret the US tails all Russian subs on the fairly rare occasions they go out to sea and the reason is precisely to be able to destroy them if need be.
US doctrine also allows for a pre-emptive nuclear strike though it is unlikely that would be done. But in this extreme case, the US and NATO have a far more powerful pre-emptive strike capability with stealth bombers (B2 and F-35) able to deliver nuclear bombs on Russian ICBM complexes at essentially no risk of interception. Considering the state of Russia's air defenses, even 4th gen aircraft and normal cruse missiles could do this.
TLDR; in the case of Russia actually planning a pre-emptive strike, NATO would be highly motivated and much more capable to strike first with nuclear on the table too in order to destroy Russian launch installations.

I think its worth looking at the life of Bruce Kent and the CND movement. There was a time when nuclear disarmament seemed feasible and a realistic vision of the future. There were strong calls for the UK to unilaterally disarm to set a good example and the implication was that unilaterally disarming would not place the UK population at risk. Ukraine unilaterally disarmed, Bruce Kent died (he was 92) in 2022 and now we have in Russia (along with N Korea, Iran) serious thinkers and people with power and nuclear weapons threatening to use them. Its hard to overstate how far Russia is dragging down the human race.
