You are my hero! What a beauty!
Why not purple.i mean your not Elton John, but hey.
Hate it when that happens
Happened twice to me last week and again this morning. I've got bloody Astons coming out of the wazoo here!
@@bigal3055LMFAO.
Most inconvenient thing in the world!
I keep telling the shop to stop throwing them in my bag, no result.
Same
Oh James you big ‘ol softie. Nice to see the DadB9 staying in the circle of friends and knowing how it’s been taken care of. The world needs more people like you who are so willing to help friends out like this.
Ben's a good guy and we both want to see the car looked after
@@JayEmmOnCars Right on, dude! What a top bloke
@@JayEmmOnCars have you bought the Influenzo too?!
Haha no I know my limits
@@JayEmmOnCars beautiful act of charity
Ben did a great job of not letting on who the buyer was in his last video. Happy it was you as we get to see more of it. The db9 is my all time favourite car and I’ve been thinking there might be one in my future for a while now…
😙
I had a 2009 Sports pack DB9 auto as my only car for a couple of years. Colour and interior aside, the exact same car. It was wonderfully docile in town, and easy to drive, but an absolute blast across Europe. I took it to France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy on several occasions, and it was the perfect car for it. It was utterly reliable and for the most part servicing was reasonable. Even fuel economy was good. Over 30mpg on some long French roads, although it could be single figures in London. Incidentally, although it predates Euro5, it meets the standards, so you can get a CritAir 1 badge for driving into French cities.
As a 2009 model yours will have Multimatic dampers, which are crap, cannot be rebuilt, and they will probably be knackered. Mine went through 3 sets of front dampers in only 20k miles. Later cars had Bilstein, and even later ones (Mk2, basically) had adjustable Bilstein. Bamford Rose offer to swap them for these. You can also have a hi-res screen, front and rear cameras and CarPlay fitted by Aston Installations, which completely transforms the usability of the nav/stereo system. The inbuilt nav is hopeless.
Unless you're putting kids in the back, see if you can swap out the rear seats for the luggage storage with someone who has a DBS and wants to go the other way. The boot is tiny (can't even fit a Brompton bike in it) and so the back seats get used for luggage a lot.
We think alike :)
Who would want to fit a ghastly Brompton bike anywhere?
Well it would have been handy when I took the car for servicing.
@@concordelounge Surely you'll be given a nice courtesy car, maybe a new model to tempt an upgrade?
@@tastypymp1287 Never did happen. I'd get a lift back to the station and a cab back to pick it up.
It's important to buy cars when interest rates and prices are low. My financial advisor also gave me the same advice. When rates and prices are low, it can save you money on financing and make the overall cost more affordable.
My financial advisor advises buying cars when interest rates and prices are low. However, he also cautions against it right now due to the hidden costs of car ownership, like insurance and maintenance. He helps me plan for these expenses and manages my portfolio to ensure financial stability. It's all about making strategic decisions and having a well-rounded financial plan.
Having a well-diversified portfolio is essential for financial success. A financial advisor can provide expert guidance, minimize risks, and offer insights on profitable investments. They bring experience and expertise, ensuring your portfolio is optimized for success. It's like having a trusted ally by your side, helping you achieve your financial goals..
Please how can I reach out to your advisor, if you don't mind me asking?
My Financial Advisor is Samuel Peter Descovich. I found him on a CNBC interview where he was featured and reached out to him afterwards. He has since provide entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. You can run a quick online research with his name if you care for
supervision. I basically follow his market moves and haven't regretted doing so.
Thank you, i pasted his name on my browser and his portfolio came up. Just wrote to him and waiting for reply.
You're a stand up guy with old school morals. I have a whole new respect for you as a person.
What a beautiful car! And what a great set up you have between yourself and Ben, its so nice to see a large audience TH-camr helping out an up and coming. I`m so glad to hear that you guys helped each other out like this. It was all definitely worth it as that is a lovely Aston and sounds heavenly. Good luck with getting its bodywork and underneath sorted, we all know its in a generous and very safe pair of hands. Can`t wait to see what you do and how it all turns out.
Good on you JayEmm, it’s lovely to hear that you found a way to support another emerging TH-camr (I’m subscribed to you both) and keep us viewers happy with another great addition to your fleet. This is one of the cars I’ve considered getting at some point, so will be an avid watcher!
These cars are timeless in their styling man 20 years on and it still looks brand new. Going to go down as an all time great, alongside the DB5. Good for you!!
That was a very good thing you did there, for Dad B9. At least now Ben knows that everything will be done that needs to be, not someone else mucking it up! Keep it up, and godspeed to you on the acquisition.!
The DB9 is a great daily driver as long as you can cope with the fuel consumption. I've had my 2004 for nearly 4 years and have loved every minute of it. Not a perfect car but beautiful, sounds great and more than quick enough. Does the football run with 3 teenage boys, at a squeeze, along with Sunday morning blasts and weekends away in Europe. I look forward to seeing how you get on.

I’m 33 and feeling like james bond in a grey aston is still on my list of things to try, can imagine that said bond feeling improves a commute in a way a ‘better’ car just couldn’t do for the money
This is brilliant! For me this car will always be remembered for the Top Gear race against the Train. Its good we will continue to see the DadB9 and the Maserati in You Tube land. It reminds be of how I first came across Tavarish; after he bought Doug Demuro's Aston!
What a guy 👏👏👏👏 Unbelievably hard to grow a youtube channel atm so well done for giving your mate a push and saving the day buying the car 👌looking forward to the content
So glad you bought Ben's car. I did view it, and it drove beautifully, but didn't want to have to go straight into a period of cosmetic paintwork because I didn't know any good bodyshops and was worried that exactly what happened to Ben would happen to me! I feel so bad for him that his Aston experience ended in this way. But what a great way to resolve it - and I can't wait to see what you do with it, and what Ben does with the Maserati! In TH-cam land, Content is King, so you both get something out of the deal. Nice one! Oh, and I did get a DB9 eventually, and it is totally wonderful. 😊 To everyone else who is thinking of doing it, stop thinking and just do it - after all JayEm himself said its the Bargin of the Decade!
Thanks Matthew, it's unfortunate but it will all work out in the end
No way 😂 I've been watching all your Aston videos this week and had a call with a local independent Aston specialist for advice. Thinking of a move from FType to DBS auto next year... and now I see this!! Massive congrats.
Shrewd and generous move - well done. Also a perfect first AM - enjoy! Earn some money showing us the repairs and, erm, where not to go for some work. Keeping it factual keeps you safe!
The name and shame must be snuck in for our benefit.
The three weeks of not doing any work must have been them researching on YT how to repair aluminium rust. 😂
Great film, love what you do, love what Ben does. Much appreciated!
This says a lot about your character and I wish you and Ben the best!
what a beautiful car! Sounds like you are a properly decent bloke too! i will be very interested to watch this space!! Ben's channel is also great! Thank you guys for the brilliant viewing!!
Accidentally…….😂🎉
Great outcome and what a nice way to help out someone when they needed it
This is why I have subscribed and watched your channel from its earliest mumblings ....You have more than the human touch and great gift of turning the prosaic into dramatic commentary . I only wish I had a friend like yourself sharing my passion in keeping these old petrol guzzling work of art on the road for years to come. Electricity was invented to work a reading lamp or toaster in my day...which wasn't that long ago.
Noticed you have some condensation in the rear tail lights. I resolved this on mine by removing them (super easy) and just putting them on top of a heating radiator at home. Can't quite recall what opening there was but I remember them being impossible to separate but there was a way to create an opening. I'd recommend doing it before the LED electronics short or corrode. They're not cheap to replace!
Fantastic James, well done. I look forward to future updates. Great video.
Congrats! Astons were always what were on my walls as a kid. The hardcore supercars of the day were great but, these you can daily if you want to and not feel guilty or inconvenienced by. Enjoy and I hope to see it in person when we cross paths!
Congrats to you and Ben. Sounds like a win win situation. Since your videos got me into an 09 Jag XKR I’d be curious what you think about any similarities and differences between the two. I realize they are quite different but seem to satisfy similar needs. Good luck with the new car!
Huge thumbs up for this video, really enjoyable! Can’t wait to see your journey in this beautiful car. Thankyou.👍
Great to see you joining the Aston crew. Enjoy! The reason why so many modern Astons seem only available in Silver, Black or Grey is because, unlike Astons of old, from new, a lot of them were bought by people on finance. Hence the 'resale' spec that sadly so many of them have.
Thanks for the info, that makes sense.
Now you've said as much, applying a value judgement on the issue sounds too much like politicising it.
As is the case with many newer cars nowadays. Here in the netherlands, with ridiculous import and emission taxes atop the catalogus price, it's pretty much impossible to buy a new car without high-paying job. Companies do have these new cars for lease status, but they have to think of the resale value after the lease time/warranty/whatever (I'm not too familiar with the whole process).
It's a pet peeve of mine as well. I do understand the resale value, but why do all these cars have to have such boring colors. Why can't we have a darker shade of blue, green, or anything else that still looks classy, but isn't a shade of grey?
I would love a db9 . In silver . If I could afford it . I would have to win the lottery first😂😂😂 but out of all of the more modern ones the db9 is my favourite.
Before buying my Vantage I did the rounds of various dealers, ex dealers and specialists. One ex-dealer told me that when he was selling the Grayson cars new he’d ask them how long they thought they’d keep the car. If the said they’d only ha with for a while before changing (or he didn’t believe them when they said it was a keeper) he’d actively steer people away from anything “interesting” and back towards the more muted interior and exterior colours. If he thought it would be coming back to him shortly he wanted to try to influence the prospective new owner into something he thought he’d be able to sell later.
This is why it took me ages to find my blue Vantage…
I’m happy you purchased the DB9 as it was once my dream car when they came out, and I say was because now being 54 years young I fell in love with a Porsche 911 997 Turbo that I’ve had the pleasure to have driven for a short while, bloody hell that thing is quick.
Now that is some man maths to make that deal work! 😂 Can’t wait to see how this journey develops, and huge congrats! 👍🏻
You're a great friend. Really nice thing of you to do.
Been enjoying your content for a while- this is the video that earned a subscribe. Really well done here.
So pleased you have done this, as after watching Ben i'm honing in on a DB9 as my next middle age crisis purchase (the first being a Triumph Speed Triple). Looking forward to seeing how you find it over the next year(s)
😊
Speed triple, good shout
Fairplay James, your a gentleman for getting him out of a sticky situation!
Not often one gets to make a good decision for all the right reasons. Good on u Really looking forward to all that will come of u owning my dream car
Lovely car. Looking forward to seeing what needs to be done with it and seeing it happen.
What a great story. I’m looking forward to seeing what it needs, and what’s involved in bringing it up to scratch. You’re a good bloke, James. 👍🦘
Can’t wait to continue to follow the DadB9’s progress👍🏻 Well done James💙
Jesus at least clean the dust and hair off of the dash first... that opening shot 😅😆 Great video Jay. I feel Ben's pain... we've all been there.
Glad you're finally in an Aston. I recently replaced a wrecked Vantage with a 2nd-gen Vanquish, and I can say from personal experience that this V12 is intoxicating. And, well, just look at it.
Very nice of you! I like Ben's videos! His kids are adorable and they get the car microbe spoonfed. Their honest assessment can be harsh 😂
🙈
Ben's vid was directly under this one in my subscriptions tab, and I knew straight away where you got it and who he'd sold it to.
Awesome stuff.
What a great Pal your are :-) Looking forward to what your going to do to it ... Big Aston Fan, currently saving for a Vantage
Great to see the DadB9 come to you! Hope you'll get the Aston vibe with it.
Over three years since you reviewed my Evil Aston - a fair few miles covered and now sits at 120k
Apart from consumables it has been painless (I hope that hasn’t jinxed it).
I still love the car and would struggle to part with it.
I am seriously considering a colour change though
Green would be good.
I hope you enjoy the DB9 as much as I enjoy the V8V
Great video...the first 5 seconds sums it up for me!
In just over 24hrs I will be collecting my first Aston Martin...a DB9. 2010my in a non "boring" colour. Will have a 3hr drive home to get to know the car.....
Looking forward to hearing how you tackle aluminium corrosion. It was the thing which has caused so much trouble in Jag XJ series cars of around 2003 to 2006
I`m not going to ask anything. Just make the statement that I think you are a great friend and fellow youtuber to Ben! Looking forward to seeing your journey of ownership with the car
Man... I broke out in a sweat imagining that the 550 had gone. SO happy to hear that a car i din't care too much about took it's place. Good luck fixing this car, and - hopefully - enjoying Aston life. While i dislike the MercAstons, this generation of Astons are right up my everything. Beautiful and cool cars.
The Gransport will be great for Ben and this works for you, so good all round.
What goes around tends to come around in life and James, you just really helped a good guy out, so kudos to you 👏 👍
I do what I can
Well done! Glad to see more vids on the dad b9. Maybe you can adress a mistery i've been reading about. Some early models would have a ticking noise, and apparently, if that's the case, you shouldn't buy it? Anyway, all info on coo would be more than welcome, as yes, i too, am eying to buy one in the near future. But one with some colour on it.
Great decision. Already popped out and bought the popcorn to eat whilst watching your adventures with this gorgeous lady.
I didn’t need a cup of coffee anymore today after hearing the exhaust note in the intro of this video. Well done and congratulations!
Great video. Always wanted an Aston, but never been brave enough to buy one. Very interested in your experience owning this and fixing the niggles, particularly the costs of doing so and the cost of living with it. If the Dad B9 ends up being a "good example" would be interested how you get on selling it too.
Great story. Looking forward to the ongoing content on this one.
It's the greatest start to a Jay video ever; I replayed the start three times.
Car guys helping each other and then sharing with other guys. Superb!
We salute you both James and Ben! 🫡🫡

When I drove one for a day about 15 years ago I thought it was boring as hell but now approaching 50 and watching this video you have me looking on autotrader
My dads just given me his Jag XK a car I never thought I’d like and I’ve found myself enjoying it so I’m sat here doing man maths and thinking of a DB9 albeit a convertible
Haha it happens to us all, I once bought 2 AMV8s on the same day (1 coupe, one convertible) not thinking two sellers would accept my email offers at the same time.. Had some explaining to do to the wife 😂
Very nice James, I'm glad you finally bought an Aston. Perfect timing too.
I'm sure you are aware of the almost impossible to detect but catastrophic misfire, my advice would be to get her to DAE (David Appleby Engineering) for a service and the excellent (engine saving) power upgrade.
Always great to see TH-camrs helping out other TH-camrs. It's always win-win.😊
That would have been the car I would have bought.... I love Aston Martin, I have a passion for the DB9, I am a sucker for silver ... I never thought JayEmm would buy exact this config. But I'm glad he did, because it's a wonderful GT.
Nice that you have helped out Ben, and Ben get the Maserati. I love my 05 DB9 and yours with the sports pack is a much better car!
Glad you got it. Keen to see more of it.
Good work James and welcome to the Aston family. Never change….
James, you're a good man - I know it all made business sense in the end, but, you're still a good man. Kevin
A couple of years ago I was considering my options for my next car. Initially I was looking at Porsche Caymans but at the time the prices were rising and more than I could justify spending. So as a long time fan of Astons when somebody at work suggested the Vantage V8 (you now the "small" coupe) I took a look. At first I was happy to see they were affordable to buy.. that is until I started researching servicing costs! I was totally shocked at how much Aston (and specialists) wanted to charge for routine servicing. As a BMW owner at the time I was already comfortable with "higher than average" servicing and was suprised that Porsche don't charge all that much more than BMW do, so when I calculated that it would cost me FOUR TIMES as much to keep an Aston on the road purely in terms of servicing I struck them off the list of potential buys. The servicing alone worked out to £4k over a two year period for routine servicing to factory schedules - that doesnt include such things as if brake disks/pads etc needed replacing. In comparision Jag would cost around £2k and Porsche £1k (my BMW servicing was of the order of £5-800 over the same period). I'm sorry but there is no way on this planet that any marque can justify those kinds of servicing prices even if they have to drop the entire engine to do an oil change! - which Astons don't. They all use the same brands of oils, spark plugs, filters etc as each other so it simply is a complete rip off that a marque believe they can charge 4x what other marques do to replace the exact same products (even if twice as much/many of each were required!).
Don't get me wrong I'd still love an Aston, but I refuse to be conned by those unjusifiable levels of servicing costs.
Agree completely. The AM is a beautiful brand, love the sound and the interior leatherwork, but really, the cost of service scares me away. I'll live vicariously as Jay shares future episodes. Another YT'er did a rebuild and used many Volvo parts, which were 1/3 the cost, but whenever he got stuck and had to take it into an AM shop, costs were ludicrous...
This is the whole reason not many new ones sell and the used prices are low, the parts & servicing is just ludicrous.
This is a genuine question but I’m assuming you are quoting dealers? Are there specialists that could do the work for cheaper costs? Also from my point of view it depends to some extent how old the car is, I’ve done all my own servicing on my jaguar and relied on the dealers for work that I couldn’t. Didn’t hurt the resale much at all but I totally understand your point and yes it’s silly as a great deal of the DB9 engine parts are ford, Volvo, and so on! 🤷🏼♂️
On my VantageS my last 3 services at a top specialist have cost £650-750 each. I do air & pollen filters myself to save a bit. Over 4 years ownership I’ve replaced a headlamp and rear pads myself (to save on labour), and with a garage owning friend replaced a leaky a/c compressor with a genuine for £500 instead of probably £2000 at a dealer. I don’t think ownership costs need to be too high if you can use a spanner 😊
@@dlgis Yeah that was my point really, as an owner (and assuming you are handy with a spanned) you can change the fluids more often (with higher spec if you want), brake pads, discs, and so on. I understand the owner forums are a great resource too for finding AM parts that are actually from other brands (and save yourself a tonne of money).
Looks like a great buy! The DBS is the next step for you. I have just brought my first ever Aston like you and pushed the boat out going for a DBS 12V Superleggera 2022 ex demo all I can say is WOW!
I can only say congratulations, well done.its absolutely beautiful,.
Fair play James. 👍 Sounds like u got him out of a jam there. ✌️👍
Lovely. Well done and thanks for the content. My dream car as well and listening to these stories does not help! 😅
Loved the intro...just smirk on your face... priceless.
I'm not too fussed about the car reviews James - I just look in to appreciate your fantastic shirts !!
Glad to see an Aston finally on your driveway James 👏
What, did you trip and fall?? 😁 love the look on your face at the start. Congrats!
Congratulations Jay on finally joining the fold.
Just one major tip when holding the lovely "glass" key it suddenly takes on the properties of the slipperiest polished electric eel and will seek out the hardest surface available within 4 feet of your present location.
After several close calls and a small chip 😢😢 I have resorted to using the horrible "valet" key instead
This one has had a few incidents already, I may get it refurbed soon
Although I would not own an old Aston, I would like to see stories of good specialists. It would be very entertaining to learn about the good guys keeping beautiful cars in the best form. For Porsche, I liked Eporsch in Bisley. They were better than the main dealers' service people. Your recommendations always stick; some years after you recommended a Ferrari dealership, I am now looking to use that one.
I would be interested to hear more about the paint issues, My SL has recently been back to the paint shop 4 times because they couldn't get it right. I would like hear someone else share their pain.
So glad you did the masser swap with the wonderful Ben from DadCars! Great guy and super channel! Just like yours man!😂❤
Oh, James.
I don't usually comment on videos with timestamps, but I shall make an exception in this instance:
00:00 Lots of watchable set-up telling us he doesn't really want a DB9, let alone in silver/grey
12:35 Magnanimous, extravagant, lovely gesture
13:30 Lots of man maths to justify being a lovely bloke to TH-cam, when no such justification is needed. We all know you're a thoroughly nice chap by now. 🙂
14:30 Incontravertible, unassailable logic justifying why a DB9 is absolutely essential prior equipment for a man who is looking for a DBS.
It's like ordering a bottle of Champagne while you figure out what you'd really like to drink.
I heartily approve. ♥
Congratulations on your first Aston James. As a fellow V8V owner I can highly recommend David Appleby Engineering for mechanical modifications but know Bamford Rose can also evolve these cars in amazing ways too. Recently took mine to Phoenix AM in Basingstoke (which I think is where Ben took the DadB9) and was very impressed with their setup. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it!
Yeah Ben use Phoenix during his ownership
First service at BAE this week for my V8V…wish me luck…
(Would have been BR but they don’t answer their phone nor return messages. I’m sure they’re brilliant but they don’t seem very bothered about capturing new customers).
@@harveytr7106you’ll be in safe hands with James at DAE. Had a clutch and dampers done there both times with exemplary service
The openings to your videos are great...
What a decent gesture and we are looking forward to the content, especially what the bills are like. I'm not loving my porsche premium bills at the moment, imagine this thing to be horrific, time will tell 😅
What a start to the vid, great job
'Boring Colour' - I have a Hammerhead Silver V12 Vantage - and I love it!
My friend has a V12, the noise out of it is absolutely mesmerising!
Best video for a long time. This is why I subscribe 👍🏻
(That and the S2000)
Banana yellow wrap ? Seems like the ticket? lol. Maybe im just that few years older than Jayemm, but for me this DB9 in this color is my dream car and has been since Clarkson drove it across France in that Top Gear race way back when. Sadly i will never ever have the money (or the talent to You Tube my way to one) so i must live vicariously through videos like this.
I find the starter motor noise on some cars quite appealing, as much as the engine. A performance car should make a good noise even firing up 😂😂😊😊
I agree! The 550 does it
Really happy for you, well done.👍
Great video, Jay. And I've just subbed to Ben.
Those shots to start the video were absolutely beautiful JM
Can’t wait to see the journey. Love an Aston
I get this all the time. Only last week I went out to the shops for some tomatoes and accidentally came home with the title deeds to Lichtenstein.
I’m very interested in the DB9 content. Great acquisition!
the vanquish volante 2013- is my all time favorite aston ,but really love the db9 and dbs also
Have you ever thought of getting a car wrapped? Not sure if you do that in the UK, but it'd be fun to see a DB9 in a completely unique color. Cheers to you for being a wonderful human being!
Such a good looking car, super special on my lotto win buy list❤
