      We looked at that piece pretty closely and couldn't find any damage! Normally the excitement level is really high with a find like that, but this one left me (Kyle) with a feeling of shock that didn't wear off for quite some time. Thanks for watching, we enjoy your videos as well!

      Thanks for watching Paleoman52! We thought we had mother nature figured out, and the day we thought was going to be the best turned out to be the slowest, while the third day with less than optimal conditions produced some flint tonnage for us!

    Thank you for your quick response to my comment. Looking back it comes off as sounding more critical than intended. You guys are obviously more experienced and dedicated to the hobby than I am, and you take the time and effort to film and post video to share it with others like me. There are a lot of videos of hunts posted but what I would really appreciate would be a video of relics you have collected with as much info about them as possible. Especially the less common items. This could really broaden the scope of the hunts and collections of the less experienced hunters like myself. Looking forward to future videos from you guys!

    • @mudstompers
      @mudstompers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ronald Cantrell We aren’t experts by any means lol we do find quite a bit but a lot of what we find leaves us puzzled just as well. Part of why we started doing these videos was to seek advice and education from the community and it has been really great. We have learned quite a bit but we still have a lot more to learn. I appreciate your response and to clarify my original response, I did take that as you were saying that we did not care about that artifact or only cared to find points. While we may not have filmed that one, if we had spotted it during that pull we would have filmed it with the find. If we found it separate, we probably would not film it alone but it would be in the cleanup portion of the video. We do talk more about what we have found in the cleanup but many people do not watch that part according to the analytics. Glad that you replied back so we could talk more. Look forward to further conversations and if you have any questions I hope that we can answer them or another person in the community can. Many of the people in our audience have been hunting and studying artifacts for quite a long time and it has been rewarding to learn from their comments.

Or a video for best finds by the Mud Stompers, and include the first finds. We have quite a bit of very nice finds that we found before we started doing videos. Jacob Tabor find the flint and you’ll find the arrowheads! Don’t be deterred by a lack of flint from the banks though, some of our finds come from areas where there’s no flint at all and you might find one worked piece to every non work piece! Look for camp rock or fire popped rock as well for some signs of life.

      I KNOW! Feel so blessed and lucky! I have seen the hard work you have put in for your finds, both on your channel and on Heartbreaker Relic's channel. Hopefully some sizeable killers are in your near future as well! Keep up the great work!!! Minimal effort typically means minimal results, and you guys have put some incredible effort in, and found some really nice artifacts of great quality along the way, but the relentless effort that I have seen from you will undoubtedly result in some great finds! We learn every time that we go out, whether its new beaches, new colors of flint/chert to look for, hunting techniques, and so much more. I am sure that you learn many new things along the way as well, every bit helps! Thanks for watching!

    • @pinebeltrelics8055
      @pinebeltrelics8055 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mud Stompers Heck yeah bro!! We learn a little more everyday!! And we realize that the outcropping of flint and flint types you guys have up there are so much bigger than down here!! We have this river cobble chert they used and often jasper that they produced some killer points and artifacts from, but it’s just small in comparison to flint from other areas!! For us, if we find a 3 or 4 inch point, that’s huge!! Lol!! But for me, all I want is to go out and be able to score some nice artifacts because no matter where they’re from, they’re all fantastic!! Love seeing them no matter who’s finding them or where!! Thanks for the kind words and supporting us as well!! ATB to you boys!!

      I get it lol! It's like the huge finds from Missouri that people talk about here. We also like find different styles of materials because its foreign to us but the material that we have shows the flaking so well! I believe our material is Sonora and Hornstone mostly, still doing some research on that. I've never hunted anywhere else, Joel has though, growing up in Iowa, and he reminds me that I'm spoiled here all the time! Keep telling myself that I'll never fully understand the river and Mother Nature, but we sure enjoy spending time with her regardless! the point you found at 3:18 in this video had a stone with a hole bored in it right under your hand! Could have been a bead or a small nutting stone. Do you only hunt points?

    • @mudstompers
      @mudstompers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ronald Cantrell we have found pestles, nutting stones, chert and hematite axes, flint and hardstone celts, flint adzes, pendants, and all kinds of stuff, is it possible that we could have missed something, absolutely. Do we intentionally ignore certain things? Yes we’re not carrying a heavy nutting stone back from 4 miles down a creek. In this case out on the river though where you pointed out it is either something that we missed or it wasn’t anything at all. People lose sight of what is in front of them all the time when they have their focus on what they see in the moment. We hope that we will spot something but it is inevitable that we will miss something that was caught on camera. Hopefully not too often though

    • @jasminewood395
      @jasminewood395 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mudstompers I guessed the wrong direction...
      Yea, I live literally on the Elkhorn creek, it snakes all over the bluegrass and there's obviously been MANY encampments along it... The field just across the creek from me is a huge flood plain, may be 40-50 acres in an oxbow of the creek that's just littered with flake, more than I've ever seen but its been hunted hard!
      The way it floods and erodes I'm sure the creek bottom is loaded with points but thanks to dams its too deep to bottom hunt in most spots, but there's a few shallow spots, a few feeder ditches... Exposed banks and an occasional bar.
      In sure no one creek hunts it so is have that to myself even if the fields are hunted out.
      I've been watching lots of vids on creek hunting, lots of good ones around ... I figured ones from KY might be more helpful than Mississippi or Virginia.
      Really tho, its almost all just dirt and mud, the few rocky spots are usually big limestone chunks and mud.
      I also have access to nice steep woodland but its not got running water or much erosion so it seems there's few areas I could really hunt there but I did find one big smoker in there a few years back just laying on the surface.
      Not real sure how to hunt the creek but I kayak it all the time so I may as well learn how !
      My 7yr old daughters taken an interest as well so that's just great!
      Ill either figure it out or make a mess trying!
      I'd love for someone to show me how its done first hand, but with all my interests and hobbies I seem to have to find my own way.

    • @mudstompers
      @mudstompers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You've identified more possible sites than we have! I'm sure that you will get on a honey hole if you keep looking, we've only ever gotten permission on a creek for a single hunt only. Been on the lookout to see if any land comes up for sale with a creek running through it, nothing practical so far though. You probably have already seen the creek selection video from Seneca Relics, it is from West Virginia but the concept still applies here. We have a video where we hunted the one creek that produced a couple of arrowheads for us, if you haven't seen that one it can give you an idea of how that creek looked. It had a lot of rock though, there wasn't rock bars, the whole thing was rock. Hope we get somewhere with either permission or purchase some land. It is great that your daughter is showing interest in it as well! My daughter is 4, but she doesn't get to go out often because of how muddy and soupy the river can be, afraid she might disappear in it.

      @@mudstompers yea, might be right but basically every creek hunting video I watch looks like better conditions than I have, nothing I have hear looks at all like the creeks you show, or Seneca, paleoman etc... but that might just be the grass greener on the other side, I won't know til I really look, all I can do is try but as much time as I spend in and on the water and the attention to detail I usually have makes me think these condition just lead to point dropping in deep water. Just straight wall banks and mud.
      If I could dig out the upstream pool of the dams I'm sure is find all kinds of goods

    What’s up with the useless classifications? It’s a rock made be an individual craftsman thousands of years ago.... unless you’re actively using the classifications somehow to identify tribe/timeframe -which seems unlikely, then what’s the point?

    • @mudstompers
      @mudstompers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What's the point? no pun intended lol! I think it is just to more easily identify what you have and see the associated age and distribution radius of the arrowhead.

    • @Dougarrowhead
      @Dougarrowhead 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Classification and time frame go together. You probably dont understand if you cant find any points yourself.

      We go out pretty often but it's almost always a last minute decision and sporadic at that with the weather, our goal is to take everyone along with us through our videos which is why we strive to improve them every time. Hope you enjoyed this one, and thanks for watching!

      Thank you! I hope you get to go out tomorrow, and I hope that you have good luck if you do! I use Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Adobe After Effects CC for more advanced editing. There are TONS of tutorials out there for them, but it does take a lot of time and patience. This video took about 10 hours to edit from start to finish.

      No problem at all! I'd recommend just getting used to using the timeline with Adobe Premiere and clipping in sequences and using the default transition first, from there, the sky is the limit!
      Also, you can start with a free trial, the apps can be quite expensive if licensed individually. Right now we are using a student discount for them which makes it cheaper.

    Where I come from folks would say your slipping into burial mound territories. Tell me it aint so. Then tell me I believe you.

    • @joelkillian3003
      @joelkillian3003 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not burial mounds. The water level of the Ohio river can fluctuate 30 feet or more in our area. The erosion is amazing and that is what pulls them out of the banks for us. Most of the time they are laying right on top the mud.
