    ctto:
A trivia: AMYGDALA is an almond-shaped little part of your brain where it's main purpose is to trigger your traumatic experiences. As Yoongi explained, example, you are afraid of water, and every time you see a water it reminds you of the day you nearly died because of drowning (reason why you have a phobia in water)
In AMYGDALA, the whole summary explanation is that Yoongi wanted to remove these traumatic memories inside him. He wanted to get out of that dark room, and remove himself from all the pain. As the chorus says "AMYGDALA, please save me." he is begging the amygdala to save him because these memories pains him to much.
A short memory about Yoongi, ARMYS are aware of his shoulder injury caused by the accident he had before debut. On the MV, he is riding a delivery motorcycle, and that was his job before debut because he lack money to support himself and he landed in different jobs, including being a delivery man. And that's where he met into an accident that caused his shoulder injury. But, because of the fear that they will not let him debut if the company will know about the injury, he hid it from them and continued to have medications only rather that having a surgery. In 2020, he did it already because it came from a point that he can't even lift a water bottle anymore.
The self-inflicting that he did with the cutter, some ARMYS believed the scar that Agust D had was self-inflicted. A metaphor of him doing "that" before as an escape. He also did the other way of s**c*de (pills). He mentioned that already once in his song "The Last" that when his doctor asked him, he admitted that he did that.
The thing about his parents, it's the first time we heard about that and it was really shocking for us.
An ARMY on twitter explained some of the points that can be seen through the MV. First is about the scar. Out of all the MVs that he had scars, some of us thought that it was just a scar, on the interview he did for Daecwhita, he admitted that it was just an idea and there's no meaning behind it. But now that he used the same scar in this MV, doing it by himself, maybe the scar all this time is self-inflicted. He switched his facial expression as Agust D when he had the scar which means that this persona is angry because it was in pain. As quoted, "Agust D was never a villain, he is just broken." It's also a way to understand why he usually k**ls the personas in the Daecwhita and Haegeum, because it's a metaphor of removing his past self (who's in pain and lives in anger) in the present him.
You can clearly tell as well why he said that it we have to wait for the time that him as Agust D will be back because he wanted to live as Min Yoongi and as SUGA of BTS now. He is no longer in pain, and in the midst of anger, Agust D is fading inside him. Because he is already at peace.
AMYGDALA is not Agust D, its Min Yoongi himself. For him to be this brave to tell a whole story line of his past traumatic experiences was something to be proud and admire of. It takes a lot of courage to do that. We can now clearly understand why this is his favorite among the things that he produced and wrote. He mentioned how hard it is for him to write this as he always gets emotional every time because it is very personal for him. It's his own story.
At the end of the MV, he never got out. It means that he already accepted that he will forever live with these memories.

Please don't apologize for this video being a bit different. This MV was difficult. Every time I watch it, I cry. I can't imagine trying to hold it in. I feel like everyone is hit hard by the song but at the same time, that sense of freaking Pride we all feel that he was able to share the full story and is working towards healing from all the trauma. It is my favorite song on the album because of the song itself but also the story behind it. Sending lots of virtual hugs to you both. It really is a lot of process. Please take your time, especially please don't feel pressured to process it on camera. 💜💜💜💜

I cried so hard watching this video because anyone who had trauma happen to them regardless your not alone and ARMY is here for you and we will get through the tough time and I’m just glad he finally told everything he wants to get off his chest.

I've been through depression and his songs and lyrics that he wrote in BTS songs have always been my emotional support. Every member of BTS loves Army in their own way but I always felt Suga can relate to Army on many levels. Suga is connected to the emotional side of army who needs right words to feel better in times where everyone giving an advice as help feels like we don't want your opinion. Love him a lot and grateful that he shared his personal life with us❤

It really is a hard video, I cried the whole day that first time I watched it. Yoongi’s music in general but specially as agust d has always hit me in a different way because I see my own pain and thoughts on his songs even tho we’ve gone trough different struggles and live different lives. He’s such a brave person for allowing himself to be so vulnerable on his art and I, as a fan, am truly honored to be able of witnessing his growth.
I wanna talk a bit of the mvs because I’m still amazed by how he created a story to represent his own struggles, the fact that agust d’s scar was created by himself to cope with trauma gives a new perspective on why he felt like he needed to k*ll those scarred versions of himself on daechwita and haegeum, because they represented all that anger and pain he wanted to move on from.
“As we wrap up the trilogy, there is no definite answer when we will meet again under the name of Agust D in the future. But when words and tens of thousands of emotions fill up again, and when the black goat in the right hand wakes up, I'll see you again as Agust D then.” ('Thanks to' notes on d-day)

In case nobody has mentioned how this song was part of the agust d trilogy: In both daechwita and Haegum you see Yoongi 'kill' or overcome certain convictions and rules that he internalized. in daechwita he eliminated his need to prove himself worthy by gathering fame ,money and power to haters and the world. In Haegum he tackles social norms in the form of capitalism and the manipulation of the masses in the information age. Each time he overcomes something by symbolically killing his old version, the scar that presents trauma on his face gets less deep and he is healing. In amygdala he travels to the beginning and investigates the trauma that lead to decisions and the convictions/thoughts that burdened him in the first place. That's why you see him making the scar and his new version smirking with sarcasm and other coping mechanisms in the video. I applaud his courage in trying to understand his motivations and evolve.

  • @poppyfortea
    @poppyfortea ปีที่แล้ว +18

"For those of you stable enough..." Yeah that's a no from me.😅
I wrote a small essay in the Haegeum reaction about the tie ins etc. and left out a bit so as not to spoil this. The scar. We finally see the origin of the scar. Self inflicted, symbolic of his trauma and depression. So like this is the prequel and him falling into depression (literally falling at times), struggling to deal with it. Then you see both sides of him in Daechwita (I'm calling them the king and the boss), both scarred, physically and emotionally. Then in Haegeum the bad cop is scarred, but the chopstick abuser isn't. Using all my overthinking skills I decided that's a sign that he is literally and figuratively healing his scars through the stories. Chopstick abuser is still a mess sure, but he seems happiest out of all the versions of Yoongi we see in all 3 videos, and he's the only version after this that doesn't have the scar.
I'm looking at the trilogy as a story of him overcoming the darker parts of himself and becoming freer over the course of the videos, making progress, failing, trying again, and the tangerine thief is like where he's at now.
This is a really simple video compared to the other two, but it's so powerful, and a genuinely hard watch. I couldn't rewatch it right away. My headspace just wouldn't let me. But I'm mostly okay watching through reactions.
I really appreciate how raw it is, and how open Yoongi continues to be about his struggles. When I see stuff like this I feel depressed but also a little reassured. I think being able to create this means the artist has done a lot of processing, and a lot of work to be comfortable enough to express this part of themselves. It's brutal, but therapeutic for the artist too. And him being so open is so helpful for the listeners. I'm sure he knows, but seeing someone else be truly open about their struggles can be so comforting for others when dealing with shit. Like at least I'm not alone in this dark place or whatever.
So for me, bawling my eyes out, genuinely upset, can't put it on while driving because I'm a mess. But also really therapeutic.

I literally gasped when I saw the motorcycle and Yoongi because I felt where this MV was going; especially since I'm a nurse and I know what the amygdala does for us as humans (blessing and curse). I saw that you recognized it as well Ozlem and I love you for it. Yoongi went through so much and I'm glad you guys are aware that the guys usually write about these things after they've processed it or are processing it. The lyrics of this song and the imagery of the MV are both truly heavy but the music is beautiful. Even before I knew what this song was about, the music moved me and just the more so knowing what I have been allowed to know about Min Yoongi through BTS and all of their content. Nobody better ever say that Yoongi is cold-hearted ever again; I swear I might catch a case!! ApoBangpo💜

Hey guys, thank you so much for this. And yes, Yoongi has always been so personal, but This. Wow, this is his most vulnerable and he shared this with us, so brave and strong. There are trigger warnings, and for ARMYs and people out there, do take care of yourself, take a breath or mental break if you're not feeling mentally and emotionally ready for this song/album. Yoongi and BTS would want you guys to take care first and foremost before their songs. You guys matter, much love💜
wanted to add that we totally get it when you get speechless or really need a moment to stop, step away, and process. Ah, Esosa dear, hope things are feeling better now. We definitely understand. This is also one where the warnings do hit me.

The thing about Yoongi that’s so inspirational is that he is always trying to evolve...in the early days he has revealed his struggles with social anxiety, depression, ocd...but through this trilogy of Daechwita, Haegeum and amygdAla he shared his path to healing. I do hope he continues to find peace within himself! Peace to you both as well...

This MV was just so raw and powerful, the lyrics are so full of raw emotion which I can partly relate to.
And I just love Yoongis acting also there were bits that made me cry and get emotional.
I can relate to it on such a personal level too as I no exactly what he is saying in this MV and song as I've been thru all that.
He also said F**k to trigger warnings aswell (which this mv triggered me so much but yet Yoongis voice comforted me in a way only I can understand)
Also I could relate so much to the lyrics and message in the song as I suffer from bad depression and I know exactly how he feels as yoongi is the one I can relate to the most

What I love about Yoongi is that he is really honest & that he's like with a purpose yk... He always tell us about his struggles in order to allow others a space where they can share theirs too and that takes courage.
In the bangtanbomb of the mv he was nervous about ppl seeing he was on medication during his twenties & that sucks. No one should feel ashamed for not being %100. We are humans not gods
He has been sharing this things little by little since 2015. Listening his music u can see his progress & that makes me really happy and gives me hope that's part of why I became an ARMY
So fellow ARMYs (ppl) if u aren't %100, %80 or whatever just treat yourself with kindness. Like Namjoon say "Everything goes"

Thx for this rxn vid! I was both surprised and grateful that Suga shared this song/video!
I hope with the younger generation as they approach adulthood, mental health issues become more of a "normal" priority instead of being stigmatized.
Mental health issues are more prevalent (and likely) than physical ones, so recognizing that mental health is just as important as physical health is just plain common sense.

I was the same as you guys when watching this . At the first watch I was really overwhelmed but with my second watch I cried because it hit me how brave he is to be this vulnerable with us. It also made me sad realising that when most of this happened he was a kid and was 19 when he got in the accident.
The accident happened in 2010/2011 and he was so scared to tell anyone about it in case he would be kicked out of the company so instead he told everyone that his shoulder hurts because he fell down the stairs.
It was 4 years into their career when he finally told the boys and company about it which is sad because the company kept telling him that they would have paid for his hospital bills if he told them.
(Also there’s a bit in the notes for ‘The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt.1’ mini album where he talks about how he was raised by his grandmother due to his mom’s heart issues)

The cut/scar was a metaphor for his inner scars. He didn't actually cut himself or have a scar on his eye. He said in the behind the scenes, that we give ourselves the scars, and it's our choices that decide whether we scar or not scar by reliving our trauma/or holding onto it or letting it go and moving forward. It did bring up some of my issues, but I've mostly dealt with them. I don't know if we ever fully heal from our past trauma's, but I know it makes us who we are today. I love this song, and I did cry a lot on the first watch.

Every time I have watched this MV (3x), I have sobbed for him and myself. As introverted as he is, I try not to imagine what he has faced all by himself. I also tend to bury things inside, because usually I don't think people are very helpful and they don't know how to make it better. I am glad Yoongi has the members and I now understand why he and Jimin are so close, they are more alike than I thought. Jimin also feels like he doesn't want to burden others with his pain and sorrows, I hope they can help each other out here. I have finally convinced myself to see a therapist and I hope she can help me go through this mess that is my mind.

I understand is impacting for those who won't know much about Suga. But for those who know... Except for his parents health problems, he talked about all of his. He said when he came out as AgustD, first mixtapes... That he had problems, he said the went to therapy... Pills, he said he thought about **** he said in one of the songs "Min Yoongi is deato me" so he always showed us Agust D, though, raw, angry... He also talked about the meaning of the scar, that is not real, it's a in your face mark that he's scared, damaged and the damage is done by himself... As we all do.
If you say... That the visual, the image is impacting, doesn't that mean that when you listen to someone's story you don't think about it, you don't visualize it, you don't try to put yourself in their shoes...?
As for you girls I hope you are OK, and if you are having memories you try to forget.. That doesn't happen, hope you work them through ❤

If you are interested in checking out more about the album and it’s meaning, I recommend watching the recent Suchitwa episode with RM as it does have banter but the questions are really good .
IUs pallete is a good thing to watch as well since he also explains about the album + live performances!! Also he’s really playful here
(Btw Suchitwa is the name of his drinking show where he asks people questions but in agust d’s episode Namjoon was the guest host)

What I like about this video is the REALNESS of it - in the end he cannot open that door (turn back time) and to prevent the trauma, he somehow has to accept that he has been harmed and it is part of him. This is one of the realest depictions of what it feels like to be stuck in mental trauma. Im so proud of Yoongi for doing the hard work of coming to terms with his pain and still being one of the most kindest generous people. I love him x

I love you both so much and completely understand your need to process in private. Yoongi really hit home for me with this song and video too. I've always felt that kindred connection with Yoongi knowing he also struggles with depression, but "Amygdala" truly opened my eyes to the pain and suffering he has struggled through and overcome to become the man he is today.
Watching this video brought up so many painful memories but it also brought me hope. Yoongi has shown us that we don't have to be controlled by our past. We can face it, accept that it happened, and move on. It may be a part of us but it is not all that we are. Today matters. The choices we make now will create who we will become. Let us all be as brave as Yoongi and get the help we need to process and heal. 💜 APOBANGPO 💜

Yoongi really opened up to us. This may be healing for him , to face his pain and trauma.. and for us, who are also going through the same thoughts...
What really pained me about this song and MV, is finally knowing how he held all of this in. Not just while in pre debut, but through out his career. This are not really things you can just talk about in the open, not especially as an Idol who, aside from working hard , are always being hated on for no reason. Holding onto those pain, alone in your mind😭 .. knowing now that he was the one who inflicted that scar in order to cope with all the turmoil he must have been feeling, thus creating AGUST D, the one filled with anger, pain and malice 🥹 he was suffering and yet only tried to give us his best .. How must he have felt, after all his schedule and concerts, going back alone in his hotel room😭.. I'm glad he has his members with him ready to support and help him out.
But after seeing this MV, I can never see that scar as anything but pain and proof of Yoongis strength and perseverance 🥹
thank u Yoongi for sharing us urself. you are strong . u deserve all the best .🥲🥲🥲🥲 #agustd #dday #amygdala

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. Such a good song. This is my fav song from his album. My 2nd fav is Snooze. I love all the songs though. But these for some reason made me feel more. When i heard this for the 1st time i smiled. This MV speaks his truth. I am glad Suga talked about it more. I think the more u speak about it the easier it gets as the years pass. I am sorry he went through so much. I am sad he did not reach the door. I think this song is tricky. I think the MV enhanced the song a lot for me. Good visuals. Loved the feels. I am an empath so i take it in. Suga was sharing his trauma, his painful memories right. I was not aware his mom had heart surgery or that his dad battled cancer. I wonder if his bike accident occured in the same year as everything else. We know Suga survived it was a miracle. Yoongi dealt with so much pain for so long. We were all so glad he finally had the shoulder surgery. They are so strong all of them. They are our strength and we theirs. Hugs tight. I was finally able to cry for him at last while watching Anitra's reaction. My therapist said I am not afraid of death. I faced my death already dealing with cancer. So his truth was not that shocking to me. But still I wanted to cry for him because he can't. Borahae. -NY USA 2019 Army 💟

People with PTSD have the same issues with their amygdala. Not being able to process emotion and trauma properly. People who suffer with PTSD in multiple forms would understand this mv straight off. Its the whole process of nightmares vs flashbacks. Flashbacks being more of a process for PTSD sufferers. I have Complex PTSD and hypervigilance so i understand this mv with all its little nuances. I respect Yoongi so much that his been able to be so open with these issues.

I think the trilogy is about slowly recovering from trauma... the Amygdala MV explains the key to understanding the other two MVs, in that it shows that the scar is a mark of a character that is acting on their trauma - Yoongi has been slowly healing over the years. In Daechwita (D-2), he replaced "blond Agust D" from the first mixtape (he was blond for the MVs he released in 2016), who was a king who ruled out of anger... in Haegeum, a new Yoongi who DOESN'T have a scar, he's healed from his trauma - or at least has learned how to have it not continue to hurt him any more by self-inflicting wounds in response to it - and Haegeum Yoongi replaces D-2 Yoongi whose scar is old but still there, and is ruling in a civil manner but perhaps too caught up in the flexing aspect (the fancy suit, the slick image). I think Haegeum is the end on a note of Yoongi being free, and living the way he wants. Amygdala is needed to explain that key though - what Yoongi had to go through mentally to get to that point.
The fact that he's sharing this with us, to me, means that he's reached a healthy place where he feels strong and recovered enough to share the story. Even if he can't put a firm happy ending on it, because you can't do that with mental struggles - in the latest episode of Suchwita, he even tells RM that he gets low every 2-3 years, but has learned how to handle it better as time has passed, and now RM thinks he's the most positive person on the team. Really, Yoongi is absolutely amazing. I love him so much and he deserves all the hugs in the world.
