Thank you so much for the lovely review. I am a Crochet teacher from Uncommon Threads. Several of the team are crocheters hence the respect for all crafts yarny. Your video is a delight! I encourage everyone to sign up for the newsletter so you don’t miss the big yarn sales (25 to 75% off on specific yarns) and the annual yarn swap (free, even if you don’t bring a contribution). There is an open yarning group that meets Tues evenings 6-8pm and all yarny crafters are welcome regardless of how competent you might think you are. Great place to get support, we offer 1/2 hour private lessons to get you past the hump or learn a new skill, as well as other classes. Thanks again!
Thank you Sarah! I had a wonderful time on my visit and am grateful for your comment. I will try to pin it to the top of the video (if I can figure out such thing LOL)
😊 love it Claire. :) Great review. I love high quality yard myself. Here most yarn is higher quality (and a bit expensive). So many options. Crafty all the way. 🎉 Hugs from Norway
As someone who is coming from the knitting/crochet pattern design world, having been immersed in hand-dyed yarn world to the point that the luxury fiber prices became almost "normal," I really appreciate your perspective on this store. The answer to how people buy SQ at these prices is that many overspend for status or to be able to share it on social media and name drop the brand or hand-dyer.
This yarn haul is beautiful! I love it! And i love to see you cuddling the yarn with your cheek, haha, i also do this in the shops... maybe i am not supposed to do that buuut i cannot help it! I can't feel with my hands if it is ichy... laughing so much about that, thats so funny!
I have visited Uncommon Threads many times as I have family in Los Altos.personally I only knit with high quality fiber and this shop has an excellent selection Stephanie the owner is delightful.also they have lots of examples of finished products and often include a pattern.
Hi Susan so wonderful to have you in the comments. I agree the shop is so wonderful! I love the idea of only knitting with high quality fiber - esp if you are going to be spending so much time on a project
Good morning, Claire! I love high-quality yarns, and I am definitely a thrifter. And a midwesterner:) If I am ever anywhere near this yarn shop, I will go in to rejoice over these yarns, and the lovely people who work there. I just finished a scarf for my daughter made with Blue Faced Leicester Tussah Silk Yarn originally from Shaggy Bear Farms in Oregon, that I bought at the City Sewing Room in St. Louis MO. Someone donated seven bins of yarn on a Wednesday, and I was finally able to go on the following Sunday. They were selling it (giving it away) for only $2 a pound, so I was soooo happy to find some lovely yarns. It is probably a good thing that I was not able to get there right away, or no one else would have been able to buy any of it! Someday, I would love to travel around visiting small yarn shops and buying the yarn for what it is worth. For now, though, I am so grateful that you were able to visit this shop and share it with us. Love you bunches!
Oh, wow! I was not expecting to see a local-to-me yarn shop on your channel! Loved the review! I've been meaning to check out Uncommon Threads myself, but I'm a little ways away and have a couple closer shops I already love going to. It's hard to break out of the routine to try new places, haha. It's nice to hear that it's crochet-friendly, and it looks really cute. A lot of the time I go to LYS purely for the inspiration they provide. Like you said, it gives you a chance to feel fiber types in person you might never have the chance to at box stores or ordering online. And it feels good to be able to support local businesses sometimes. I don't have a high income so I definitely can't get all my yarn locally ($70 for cashmere will never be in my budget when Colourmart exists, sorry not sorry) but a skein every so often is worth it to help keep the community aspect of fiber arts thriving.
@@WoodshedTheory I definitely will! If you end up on the coast then Yarn Shop Santa Cruz is absolutely adorable - it's tiny, one of the smallest shops I've been in, but packed with treasures and everyone who works there is so kind and fun to talk to.
I think I may have that exact same red Berroco wool in my yarn stash! I'm so glad you had a great time. We have a couple wonderful yarn stores near us and it's dangerous 😆. Thankfully these stores also have more affordable yarn brands like Berroco and Cascade not just the highest end stuff (which I will also buy when I can afford it bc it's worth it for me).
I have luxury yarn taste with a thrift store budget lol. Looks like a cool little shop to visit. Of course the sales bin is always my thing. Great video loved it.
Thanks for this cool video, I love seeing what yarn goodies are available especially in other countries(I'm from the UK). Ive been in a few of these type of stores over here, when I've felt brave enough to go in. I think my all time fav yarn would probably be from Rowan I love their yarns but not the price tag! I've never heard about the dislike of crocheters in yarn shops don't know if it's different here in England or if I've just never noticed, I go I to my own zone a lot of the time... But I certainly know crocheters and they haven't mentioned it. It seems so strange to me why some shops would be anti crochet, surely any lover of yarn and crafting with it would be welcome especially from a business point of view. - I guess some people are just weird, and I thought I was the odd ball? Thank you for the great channel, always brightens my day even when I'm having my worst autistic days... xxxx
@@WoodshedTheory I am always happy to look at yarn how ever it comes!!! I used to have a big yarn stash (and I mean big!!!) But sadly I had to get rid of it when my life collapsed about 10yrs ago, it was before I was diagnosed. I've never been in the situation since to really buy or have yarn so much apart from the odd skein for specific projects so any way to get my yarn fix is alright by me 😁, I am a yarn-a-holic and not afraid to say it xxx
@@WoodshedTheory also you probably aren't making it up at all, some people are just bias and I think plain weird. So it probably was some thing you heard.
Our little yarn store has knit and crochet classes as well, first time I've seen that. I haven't had a chance to check out the local yarn stores in Missoula MT yet, but I want to check them out. I think there are 2 there.
I love a good LYS. I would never be able to talk myself into buying a $70 yarn but I do love good yarn. From looking at their site quickly, the prices are just about the same as any other LYS I've been to (I've been to quite a few in different states) so it's not just where they are located. I just started a knit shawl with 2 skeins of fingering that I paid $28 each for. I think the price of nice yarn combined with ADHD keeps me making 1 or 2 skein projects.
I get it! I don't think 70 dollar yarn is on the table for me either, but it was fun to be able to experience it in person and not just looking at it online. I also struggle with big projects so i try to keep a few going at once.

What a fun video! You make me want to own a yarn shop lol!!! 😂
Me too! Just sit all day with my yarn
If I start a yarn shop I would have to sell it. A yarn museum so others can come look at it but I don’t have to sell it.

Haha well it was nice but way out of my price range
But they didn’t have any roving for us spinners! We spin and dye our hand spun fibers and then knit, crochet, or weave with it.
