Maaaan, I still think they should have kept the old story. I loved the development arc between Robin and AL-AN, where he was distrustful and hostile towards her but later befriends her the more they talk to each other. Don't get me wrong, I love AL-AN in the current story, and his situation was not a good one so he had no other option, but I would still be untrustful of the person I hitched a ride on because I don't know them and I don't know if they would turn against me and tell their peers what happened, even if they told me they weren't actually with the organization that made their equipment, I wouldn't trust 'em at the beginning And, the interaction between AL-AN and Robin in the fabrication facility in the old story was really nice, it shows how far they've come from being "enemies" to sort of friends. If they had managed to keep the old story and mix it with the current one, that would've been awesome
I was really been curious to see how the original storyline would've gone with Jeffreys. He could've been used as an enemy or a secret ally to AL-AN fighting like Maida does against Alterra in the finished storyline. I was really excited at the idea that you'd have to be sneaky with what you did because the higher-ups would be above you watching from the Vesper. So many lost possibilities :(
I'm honestly glad they changed it. Robin was really dumb in the original version. Al-an is going "I'm literally going to kill you" and she's all "Oooh, what does this button do? I'm gonna push it, lol!" And then is surprised when something happens. So frikkin' dumb.
Remember that concept art with the cyclops in that glacial trench? That had me hyped that we would eventually get to go super inland into sector zero! Ah, what could (and honestly should) have been...
I have the same feeling, it’s story is almost completely different so it is like a new game, yet the game’s story is so short that it doesn’t feel like it’s own game.
if i remember correctly, in a few versions before the new story was put in, there was a button under the shield base that triggered the entire ending sequence of the original story might be cool to check that out again
I did some digging and struck *GOLD* there was a rough cut of the ending before the original writer left. Essentially what happened was, we disable the shield, the vesper apparently explodes for no reason, we immediately went into Alan’s space ship, just before we got to the phase-gate Jeff comes out of nowhere in a literal warship (dont ask me I have no clue) there was some placeholder “censored for early access” dialogue between Alan and jeff, then marg comes out of nowhere and lands on jeffs ship attacking it and making it fall a few feet, Alan’s ship moves towards the phase gate but the warship moves back into position to block us, marg is gone (presumably inside the warship) there is some more censored dialogue and the ship flies away (backing up the theory that marg took over the warship) then Alan’s ship flys into the phasegate and the screen goes black. I’ll get the video link and edit it into this comment if I can find it for you… Ok found it, heres the video of the ending th-cam.com/video/5vMwyca-FMM/w-d-xo.html Theres also a video of marg giving you the white tablet: th-cam.com/video/UJLSdbFslao/w-d-xo.html Enjoy!
This would have made marg more relevant to the story given that the official explains how she survived but makes her seen as a bad person to not trust as much as Alterra on this planet given her attacks on Alterra facilities killing a good chunk of the staff including Sam to a extent with the idea of the explosives. This makes her seem more open in helping you and Alan so that Alterra doesn't get it's hands on power they would never understand let alone control.

I remember the old voice actor. Its kinda sad that her voicelines didn’t make the final cut because they were pretty good. But the new story and new voicelines is very good, I might even consider it better than the old one(obviously)
@@TheLastBacon i love your vids now, and to think i found it when looking through youtube shorts and saw a subnautica one that showed the farlands which then i searched up and found your amazing channel
9:14 I know I am a bit late but what I think happened was as the devs updated the game the sea emperors got more and more broken and the devs eventually decided that instead of fixing them they would remove them
imagine the menu screen of subnautica "where its above water" would be the game running in the background and fish could swim wherever new players seing a reapers tail would be the most hilarious thing ever
well I started playing later (and only a little before the story rework) but thanks to videos and the wiki I can tell you a lot: the base you found in the scrabed biome was indeed margs who stole one of the parts for AL-AN's body. the test fish skeli was used as a frolo placeholder indeed (you should be able to find some creatures from subnautica as one as well)
1:42 seeing how Ryley has streak of blue hair gave me an idea for multiplayer, and that the color could change for each player if they all use the same model, like in the multiplayer mod you reviewed in a previous video
BROOO that beginning is genuinely SO cool, I'm actually kinda sad it wasn't in the full game. The beginning of the full game isn't bad, it's just kinda quick and not as cool
I hated not being able to play Subnautica Early Access so when I heard Below Zeros release date for early access I immediately waited out the clock until the first hour it came out and bought it. I had a blast with the story back then and loved exploring he biomes and in my personal opinion the Lilies pad islands were much better before then after. I small change to the game was near the island instead of the Cyr Monsters their was Bonesharks which is an uncommon fact that people forget about early access
I remember there was a sea emperor in the first few versions (and many of the first Subnautica creatures too, such as the stalker, boneshark, i think the crashfish, tho im not sure) i checked if it got updated every week, i was really hyped and had really high expectations (i even thought it would be better than the original) and im kinda sad they removed everything, but at least we got an improved base building system (only reason i kept playing after finishing the game)
I did this just yesterday(exploring an early EA build of the game), and that giant fish skeleton scared the everliving crap out of me!! Not only is it freaky and I didn't expect it at all, but it also loaded in very suddenly, almost got a heart attack 😅 so scary!!
Honestly, there's not much to the first build of SBZ, they took a bunch of assets, systems, and routines from the first game and built a new world that used them. What really impresses me is how fast they were able to build the layout. Assets like the elevator can be plunked down, but laying out the depth of the twisty bridges is something that probably had to be done by hand.
Early access Below Zero my beloved! Aw man, I really enjoyed the original plot, and Robin's whole personality and interactions with Al-An. "Alien in my brain? ...COOL!" I guess they gave the whole rebelling against Alterra bit to Sam, and their interactions here are very different, but man that first plot was so cool. Yup, the old skeleton was a placeholder for the Frozen Leviathan. Even more fun, the placeholders for Al-An's body parts? The alien building block thing from the PCF, and the rifle and the doomsday device from the QEP! Oh damn, yeah, it really does have vibes of playing as Sam. Time travel! The rocket was originally used to send up stuff to the Vesper, ranging from biomarker samples to the Emperor enzymes to, uh, a fresh Kharaa sample, which of course they had TOTALLY innocent intentions for... Hope you feel better soon!
seeing that picture with everyone and riley made me wish that riley appeared in below zero somehow. maybe that, for riley to pay his debt, he was made to work on 4546B and research and whatnot
Boy am i tired. Had a long work shift. We had 16 orders of big ass cakes, that was not very CRISPY! But the feeling you get when you get home and see CRISPY boy here has uploaded again, cant beat it. How CRISPY!
What’s funny is I remember playing this build or one close to it that was available on Xbox Game Preview. Then I purchased the game and was a bit upset they changed the story, what’s worse is no one believed me when I said there was a different story than what we were given.
I bought it the week early access came out and I went as far as you could in early access in survival mode. I remember finding the baby sea emperor and thinking how it was cool that one swam all the way over there, and needing to put some sample in the rocket and then launching it. I also remember finding Marge's unfinished base and finding that orange tablet, I remember you just waking up and turning off the alarm and the story being about finding your roommate instead of investigating Sam's death. Sam was alive and would like yell your name through a call thing if you died. I remember finding that big leviathan skeleton in the ice. I think I remember Alan actually didn't want to be in head at all and him trying to trap you in the facility. I also remember that it was weird because it would usually work perfectly fine, but if I went to certain spots it would just crash for some reason. I remember I would keep track of the updates and looked at this things of their todo list. Then, I didn't keep up with it for a while and then when I came back, it was the current story and completely different.
I remember in Early Access being told to take a wiring kit and scrap metal to the tower to fix it. Of course this was before any of the ship parts were fully even in the game.
bit late but the skeleton was probably not used because of how similar it would look to the skeleton of the gargantuan leviathan in the first game. probably why they just put it in a giant ice block.
Before the new story came in and after building alan, he quarantines the whole planet with green type of shield. So sad we never got to see whats that all about
@@TheLastBacon i think it was accessible in version 2020 feb 24283? im not so sure its been a long time :D idk if that version even exist or not edit: it happens when you try to shoot the rocket
If I remembered correctly, I believe after you launched a rocket or something in one of the early access builds it would trigger a partly voiced dialogue between Robin and the vesper saying something along the lines they were sending people down to get Robin. I'm sure if do some digging around online you could find it.
I think what made Unknown Worlds rewrite the story was Tom Jubert's departure from the team. Not only was he responsible for Subnautica's lore, but also, after he left, no further updates were made to the storyline until the rewrite happened.
Maaaan, I still think they should have kept the old story.
Yeah I remember all the theories we had about those emperors :) Good times…
5:45 I would just draw my eyes to the bottom left hand side of the screen to find that the temp bar is missing.
It was indeed! :)
I played the 2019 BZ and i remember the rocket sequence! Really fascinating!!
Good times! :)
Man, it seems like all the youtubers I've been fallowing have gotten sick lately. Get well soon Bacon.
Ikr? Something seems to be going around :) Thank you!
I did this just yesterday(exploring an early EA build of the game), and that giant fish skeleton scared the everliving crap out of me!! Not only is it freaky and I didn't expect it at all, but it also loaded in very suddenly, almost got a heart attack 😅 so scary!!
Haha yeah it caught me off guard as well! :)
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you! :)
God bless you feel better! 🙏
Thank you kindly :)
Yeah plus some pretty grand stuff like the animation of the base being swept away :)
Early access Below Zero my beloved! Aw man, I really enjoyed the original plot, and Robin's whole personality and interactions with Al-An. "Alien in my brain? ...COOL!"
I guess they gave the whole rebelling against Alterra bit to Sam, and their interactions here are very different, but man that first plot was so cool.
Thank you! Yeah I really liked this opening as well! :)
seeing that picture with everyone and riley made me wish that riley appeared in below zero somehow. maybe that, for riley to pay his debt, he was made to work on 4546B and research and whatnot
Ikr! That would've been so cool! :)
I hope you get better soon bacon nobody likes being sick and I don't think you do either
I definitely don't :) Thank you!
i like listening to ur videos while drawing, painting, act ;D !
ect* lol
Yay amazing thank you :)
It’s crazy how much the story changed
Yep totally! :)
Oh my, I remember this. I miss this start! :(
Good times :)
this took me back when i originally got below 0 way back when it first dropped in early access
Same :) Good ol’ times!
i love your vids dude, you're awesome.
Yay thank you kindly :)
As I remembered correctly in Deep Lily Pads in early access were mushrooms from the original subnautuca
Oh I believe you're right :)
Boy am i tired. Had a long work shift. We had 16 orders of big ass cakes, that was not very CRISPY! But the feeling you get when you get home and see CRISPY boy here has uploaded again, cant beat it. How CRISPY!
Yay thank you kindly! And well done at work - sounds like a tough day! :)
Bacons feeling a little greasy
Haha yeah no kidding :)
What’s funny is I remember playing this build or one close to it that was available on Xbox Game Preview.
Then I purchased the game and was a bit upset they changed the story, what’s worse is no one believed me when I said there was a different story than what we were given.
Yeah it’s kinda crazy how drastically the story changed :)
"I'm not gonna lie" *cough. cough* "-I'm dying"
Oof :D
How funny that this is first story in this game i ever saw. So i were guessing where is this place, and why we start somewhere
Yeah it was what I saw at the start too :)
Yeah you were one of the OGs then :) I remember playing this version as well when it first came out!
Subnautica: Below Zero - "Die Peacefully" starts a bit like al-an when he is found
Yep exactly :)
Interesting, she talks with sam in the beginning, looks like the story changed a lot^^
Now I need a video showing the old story ;P
Yeah absolutely! The story was waaaay different :)
The last bacon has finally turned into Thinknoodles again
Haha full circle :D
Get well soon!
Thank you! :)
1:40 the girl on the right shows up in a couple of lockers in subnautica (and maybe below zero)
True :)
I remember in Early Access being told to take a wiring kit and scrap metal to the tower to fix it. Of course this was before any of the ship parts were fully even in the game.
Yep! Good times :)
I love the history of these games
Same! :)
bit late but the skeleton was probably not used because of how similar it would look to the skeleton of the gargantuan leviathan in the first game. probably why they just put it in a giant ice block.
Yeah probably :)
Yes! BZ is back!
Yay :D
Before the new story came in and after building alan, he quarantines the whole planet with green type of shield. So sad we never got to see whats that all about
That would be so sick to see fully realized :)
@@TheLastBacon i think it was accessible in version 2020 feb 24283? im not so sure its been a long time :D idk if that version even exist or not
edit: it happens when you try to shoot the rocket
get well soon!
Thank you! :)
9:07
What?
I thought I could recall seeing sea emperors in Below Zero‘s full release
Yeah during early access :) They have since been cut…
If I remembered correctly, I believe after you launched a rocket or something in one of the early access builds it would trigger a partly voiced dialogue between Robin and the vesper saying something along the lines they were sending people down to get Robin. I'm sure if do some digging around online you could find it.
Yeah gonna try to do that :)
4:54 this part is actually so realistic just look how the rocks fall and the wind move as well as the dust of rocks and snow
Ikr! It looks super cool :)
@@TheLastBacon Really really cool
Wow sooo close to 200k, remember u was at like 40-50k
Yeah it's absolutely incredible! :D
7:13 fish skeleton jumpscare and i got scared from it
Understandable :)
I think what made Unknown Worlds rewrite the story was Tom Jubert's departure from the team. Not only was he responsible for Subnautica's lore, but also, after he left, no further updates were made to the storyline until the rewrite happened.
Yeah I think you're right :)
