Clean & Sober is the movie that I saw Michael Keaton as a character actor. If you have never seen this movie, you must. In “Much Ado About Nothing” you cannot take your eyes off him. He steals the scene. My son in law works at the airport escorting VIP’s, he met Mr Keaton & he found him to be a genuine pleasure to escort. Hope you enjoyed fly fishing. 😉

Saw an interview with Mr. Keaton where he talked about his seeing a young fan ( after Batman) in an airport and signaled for the kid to keep a secret!! What a lovely interaction and certainly showed class on Mr. Keaton's part.( Unlike a sports " star" who recently was cruel to a young French fan) Thanks again for interviewing a fabulous person. I love “Mr. Mom” so much. It is the sweetest movie ever with the most poignant performances by Terri & Michael. And I loved the approach that anyone, no matter the gender struggles with raising kids and the ruts we all can get in. And of course the loyalty and love angle (classic conversation with himself about why he shouldn’t cheat).

Will has always reminded me of Michael Keaton, especially Keaton’s early career years, I have always been impressed by Keaton’s career progression from Mr Mom to Batman but he couldn’t have made the jump between the two without Clean & Sober. It makes me wonder if studios or agents still monitor and develop their actors like Keaton. He’s my favorite Batman.

I don't think enough people know about Clean and Sober. It was a revelatory performance at the time. Morgan Freeman was good in it too and was not widely known and admired as the Morgan Freeman of today. Keaton also played an edgy nut in the movie The Dream Team, that came out shortly before Batman in 1989. I don't remember it as being a particularly good movie but I remember thinking at the time "Maybe Keaton can play a good Batman after all."

I don't like writing this but here goes: "Dopesick" was good but this podcast reminds me how much better it is, sometimes, to not know the person behind the character. It seems ALL the guys - the 3 hosts AND Keaton agreed there is no such thing as luck. Well too bad, luck exists whether you believe it or not (like gravity). You ALL are incredibly lucky - to be born male, white, in the US, etc. etc. Once you say - like that ass, Jerry Seinfeld, - you don't believe in luck and it's only by all your hard work you've gotten where you are etc., you show your arrogance ungratefulness. Even with all the protestations of "how grateful" you are, the luck thing gives it away. Yes, yes, we all work hard. Coal miners must work the hardest, people in Africa walking miles for water work very hard, working hard is something most of us do, if we need to. Admit you're lucky, just go ahead and do it. Only then can you begin to open yourselves to gratefulness a little at a time. I'm basing this comment on what you all said in this podcast. I'm sure I'll come off as a screed and don't really care - I'm just some rando on the internet. But honestly, when you think about the incredible luck to be where you are now, you have to admit it does indeed exist. Luck and the system that helped you start out where you did. Used to enjoy these guys but not anymore. There are more comedic podcasts to choose from.

I can tell you what Keaton was doing the weekend Batman opened - he was playing softball in Encino on our Show Biz League team. I remember distinctly Michael hitting into a double play at a crucial moment in the game and how dejected and apologetic he was to me and the guys on the bench - I told him “forget about it you’re fucking Batman” but he wasn’t buying it, he dropped his head and said “Yeah, Batman who hit into a double play.” Double play aside he’s a helluva good ball player…and equally a nice guy.

Love Michael Keaton and the interview was good. But attributing the success of Marvel and the DC films to the Keaton Batman is pretty disrespectful to Christopher Reeves and the 1978 Superman.

but it's been pretty documented that Batman 89 really brought it all together - the marketing, the Summer blockbuster, the box office, the merchandise, etc. It was an enormous success from a studio standpoint.

I get what you're saying, but Batman really felt like a comic book come to life. Then you had the pop culture aspect, the world building, it was just a different feel. Even the music - Prince - was so different from what they did with Superman. Eventually people burned out on it, but then Marvel came along and changed the formula again.

I love these guys but the magic of their podcast is that they break each others balls. They do way too much kissing up to their guests. Their guests enjoy being pushed and challenged, because literally no one is doing that. Michael Keaton is primed to deliver the humor and the roast, but you guys went soft. Push the guest and each other. That’s the beauty of this podcast. And Will losen up and allow yourself to be made fun of

They didn’t push and challenge Paul McCartney, Jeff Bridges, Henry Winkler or Mike Myers because they’re too kind and humble
