Couldn't possibly agree more. The fact she was undeniably robbed of well deserved awards and accolades for the album still pisses me off on another level. Lead the way has an unparalleled ability to transcend all & transport me to a place where there's no space or time.

Lead the way was written and recorded in 1997 for Butterfly. Not many people know that. She stopped working with Walter in 1997, which is why Lead the way credits him on Glitter all those years later. Not many people know Mariah started writing for Glitter and planning it in late 1997.

Virgin records 'cleaned house' after the Mariah deal. The people who hired Mariah were let go. Everyone else was promoted, demoted, or fired. So, Mariah came on board and then her team was dispersed. Communication was random and just 1 way from them to her. The new people didn't care about her. Mariah made her 2nd single a charity one due to the 9/11 attacks. Mariah wanted off of Virgin and they made an agreement. Virgin broke that agreement by going public and claiming they fired her. They only had to pay her 15 million to get out of contract with her because they already paid 20 million for Glitter. They had to pay 28 because they broke the agreement, so Mariah went after them even harder for the fact she was hospitalized after spending just 1 year with them. So, it was a total of 28 million for "pain and suffering". That's on top of the 20 million they already paid her. Loverboy was also the biggest selling single of that year. She had maxi singles that cost up to $13. Glitter STILL sold 3 million worldwide. She made over 60 million that year.

My reaction when first listening to Lead the Way. It’s considered one of her most impressive and difficult songs VOCALLY, easily top 5 in her entire discography, I’d say even top 3. That song EASILY cemented her imo being the best vocalist of all time cuz NO ONE has been able to do something like that ever lmao. Still boggles my mind how some people don’t have her at LEAST in their top 3 vocally when she’s sang like THAT. They must’ve not heard Lead the Way💀

Awwww, this video made me emotional .. I remember taking the bus on 9/11 (and I live in Montreal, Canada) to go buy Glitter at the store, and we were hearing on the radio that the US just got attacked and ppl were crying. I thought I was gonna die before I could buy that CD, haha. Rainbow/Glitter/Charmbracelet was such a strange and interesting era to be a lamb, I was always defending her, media was attacking her left and right, it was crazy. The album is so good, she HAS to rerelease it on vinyl as she owns the masters and everything. She went through Hell, and she's still here making amazing albums, she's the Queen of everything. Love her, and love you for making these reactions. Can't wait for Chambracelet next :) It's one of my favorite albums

It's also worth mentioning that it's one of the first 80's-inspired albums that came out at the time. People thought it was too soon to remake a sound that was relatively recent. Everything was just stacked against her. They would change their tune years later when Gwen Stefani capitalized on that sound on her debut solo album and had a successful run with it.

By this point after 911 the Mariah sabotage/over saturation/fatigue was in full swing and no matter how good/great/timeless Glitter the film & soundtrack might have been
they were both doomed in the public eye & became a great source of national ridicule.
Let me put it this way:
They few people that did go see Glitter in the movie theaters - actually kinda like it. 😊
Everybody else that didnt even see the film - hated it. 🙄
Now that we know the truth,
time has proven that Glitter is a classic Mariah album & i really loved watching you rnjoy it 😊😊

This album is One of the Best Dance Pop Album for the Past 20 Years according to PopMatters Magazine 👍🏼 This is definitely One of Mariah Best and Most Cohesive Pop Album up to that Point since Her Debut Album and also Emotions Album because Glitter Album is a Pop Album that Consists of Genre like Pop, R&B, Hip- Hop, Dance Pop, Disco, Soul and also for the First time Mariah incorporate a lot of Funk Genre in a lot of the Songs Particular in Songs like Loverboy, Loverboy Remix and Loverboy Firecracker Remix (The Original Version before JLo Stole it), Overall it’s a very Refreshing and Current album during that Time in 2001 because for the First Time since Emotions Album back in 1991, We saw Mariah had a lot of Dance and Uptempo Songs in an Album, Songs like Loverboy, Loverboy Remix, Didn’t Mean to Turn You On, Last Night A DJ Save My Life, Don’t Stop, Want You and All My Life, these are the Perfect Example 😊👍🏼 Love Your Reaction 😊❤️

Ahhh Glitter ✨✨✨. Originally titled, All That Glitters ,but movie studio shortened it.
Now we gotta take into account that this was Mariah's 1st Project with her (then) New Label, Virgin Records. She landed a multi-album deal for over $100 million, the biggest at the time. However, The label mismanaged and didn't have enough experience on how to do proper Damage control and turn bad situations into something good. Therefore this was Mariah's 1 & Only project with Virgin before they released her of her Contract. However, as we would all would learn about her is that No1 wastes Mariah's time. She sued Virgin for basically wasting her time and not holding up thier end 😳. Courts decide Mariah deserves Compensation in the amount of around $27 Million 🥂. They cut her her check and off she Went to take a short break and just rest after a wild year of recording the Soundtrack, Filming the Movie on top of other projects and of also some public moments where wasn't allowed to speak her mind by her publicist & also That Famous MTV TRL live Episode where she randomly shows up w/ an Ice Cream Cart surprising Carson Daily & the audience and giving Them all free Ice Cream 🤷🤭 & the Breakdown.
Around 2002 /2003- ish her friend Antonio L.A. Reid (formerly co-owner of LaFace Records w/ Babyface) and Now President of Island/Def Jam Records approaches her to see if she's ready to make music and Join his label . She joins and is still on the label.
P..s not sure if you know this lil random fact, but at the Start of the movie When lil Billie joins her mom on stage to sing. That's Mariah's voice just pitched up to sound like a young Billie

_Glitter_ was def paid dust, 23 years ago, but not for nothing (at least at first…)-it was released ON Sept. 11th, 2001. There are literal videos & photos of “Glitter” billboards & ads in NY, at the bus stops, storefronts, etc., with the burning WTC still standing directly behind. It hadn’t fallen yet. 😢 Shady cameraman filmed Mariah on the billboard and slowly panned up to the smoking towers. Shade and kinda wrong…
A lot of other albums and singles, and movies, were supposed to premiere or be released the same day, and obviously, that wasn’t the first thing on the minds of many…certainly not by the end of the day. Including the celebrities themselves, I’m sure.
But what I don’t get? It was so shitty with the media treatment of Mariah - even though everyone knew, yes, an dual album & movie released on 9/11 (the day of the largest loss of American life in modern times) is likely going to fail… yet the magazines and blogs just hounded her relentlessly. Even going-in on her AFTER 9/11. It took her literally a few years to “bounce back”. They said she went “crazy” and “manic Mariah” being compared to “wacko jacko” of the 90s. So stupid… I mean, it’s like, yes, she had been through a lot. Cause of the negativity! Gimme a break. So she willingly committed herself, quietly, to a rehab center (in Long Island, I think), after being a total workaholic for eleven years. Longer, if you count her pre-fame years, hustling in NYC. While there, under physician’s care & psychiatric observation, and having therapy sessions no doubt, she did receive her bipolar diagnosis. Something she didn’t disclose publicly until years later. Like, 2015, I think.
Regardless, someone is going to have a breaking point with haters like y’all! The media! Not the fans…sorry I get passionate about her. Been ride or die since 1993 with this woman. I’m 37 now!! 🦋 🐑 ♥️

I always thought the album was very underrated, although I understand that at times, there is tooo much going on in the tracks, but there is great music here. The movie, yes, it had moments that were off honestly, not sure the cast/directing was the best. The thing is, everybody considered this a flop, but Loverboy was at #2 that year in the HOT100 billboard chart....so, is that a flop? People would give everything to have their song at that place...period.

Virgin did promote the ish out of the music, especially Loverboy and to a lesser degree Don't Stop and Never Too Far. However, radio was not playing the music because Sony threatened to pull their acts. Never Too Far went to #1 on the sales charts in the US, it sold over 100,000 singles - it became one of the 20 best selling songs of 2001 in the US - Loverboy was the best selling single at 585,000 copies sold.
All this sabotage, Glitter could and should have been bigger. In Europe the album pretty much entered the top 10 and or top 5 in every single country, but shortly fell off because the very negative media reporting about Mariah swept over to Europe as well. The album performed best in Asia because in Asia for some reason Sony was licencing the album and not Virgin. Virgin only got the right for North America, Australia and Europe. So, Sony Japan pulled their usual promo and the album debuted at #1 in Japan and sold pretty well, over 500,000 copies. Another better market in Europe for the album was France. We all know how France never pays any attention to US (or more specific English-speaking) media reports and the news of how uncool Mariah had become did not reach the French world initially. Glitter sold almost 150,000 units in France - its biggest EU market by far. (In comparison, the album only sold 50,000 copies in the UK).
All in all, the album - Mariah calls it a soundtrack and not a regular album - sold over 2,5 million copies globally and became one of the top 10 best selling soundtracks of 2001. People made it out to such a huge disasters because all of her previous albums sold so much more: 1999's Rainbow sold over 8 million copies for example.
Mariah needed some time to return to the limelight. She tried in 2002 with Charmbracelet - the album sold 3 million copies worldwide - it did particularly better in the US and Europe than Glitter. However, it was still not enough to be truly considered back. And then her meteoric return began in 2003 with her Busta Rhymes collaboration: I Know what you want which became one of the biggest songs of 2003. Then the rest is history... 2004 was kinda slow (also she spent the entire year 2003 touring). In 2005 The Emancipation came out and dang Miss Carey was back on top. Emancipation sold over 9 million copies globally, it became her 7th biggest album globally (incl. compilation albums) and her 5th best selling album in the US.

READ THIS - 'If We' sounds like what song? It sounds - melodically and rhythmically - similar to 'I'm Real' by Jennifer Lopez also featuring Ja Rule. I'm Real is a stylistic copy of "If We". Tommy Mottola sabotaged Mariah by making Jennifer's version get an earlier release. He listened to her album Glitter and prevented its release, and FORCED J-Lo to make a similar sounding song and release it before her. Unfortunately, for Mariah, J-Lo's version went to #1 and stayed there for weeks. Mariah's "If We" version never made the cut commercially! THE IRONY IS NOW ALL I HEAR IS 80s MUSIC ON THE RADIO. Most of the Weeknd's music is 80s and a lot of Kylie Minogue's dance music is 80s style! Everyone's doing it now!

Back then I really hoped that there would have been a score version of the soundtrack. I fell in love since the first song in the movie.
I think it's because EMI needed help from mariah reputation to raise up the down of label so they make the soundtrack more like solo album and many tracks were not appear on the movie, make it easier to promote as new Mariah's solo. Film and album were promoted separately outside USA. They knew that Mariah was very big in asia and wanted to sell the album as much as they can and like Sony could.

Glitter was not a bad movie they made it so much worse than it needed it to be. They needed a better script and director and the sabotage. SMH. 🤦🏼‍♂️
