Awesomeness! The song was written and originally recorded by Randy Newman, but it was Three Dog Night's cover version was the biggest hit. But the LP may well have credited Eric Burdon and the Animals(?).
I read about this album in Frees's biography - thanks for posting the clips, because I figure I'd never find the LP anywhere! By the way, this was Three Dog Night, not the Animals.
Any chance of uploading any more from this L.P.? I owned it in the 70's and loved all the tracks - especially the Boris Karloff one. "They're hanging me at dawn. What a lousy way to start the day! Everything happens to me..."
The BMI website, which tracks all recordings of songs that they license, do not show that the Animals ever recorded this Randy Newman composition. Even the Animals' website doesn't list the title. It was covered by Wilson Pickett, tho.
@@desdar100 He's at a party. A girl is peppering him with questions: "Want some whiskey in your water?" "Want some sugar in your tea?" Changing "want" to "put" changes them from questions to statements. Face it, he just blew the lyric!
My grandmother had this album
I miss her
Paul Frees was amazing!
The comedic appropriateness of the pairing of the character and the song is as outstanding as the performance!
We had this album when I was a kid. I loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to a radio DJ. It never came back. Thanks for posting this here.
He should have also done Cesar Romero doing "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself" by Dusty Springfield!
Rad, mad, bad-assed!
Hillarious!!!!!!!!

First song by 3 dog nights

Actually it was on a Solo album by Eric Burden in 1966, written by Randy Newman. Yes it was covered by Three Dog Night in 1970.
Good Young WC. B grade Paul.

Sounds a lot like Wm. Burroughs imitating Mae West.
3 dog night.
Gets off to a poor start, as the first word of the song is "Want" and not "Put!"
I think it's a part of the joke.
He's just a observer after all

@@CoCotheTurtle I'm talking about WC Fields ( in this version).
I think the line if it's a bit better given the context and the aftermath
Paul Frees was amazing!
