Sick UM30 Sensor wiring and set up for analog/digital liquid level control. Worth the investment?

Hi, do you know if it is possible to make a similar system with SICK UM18 serie? I don't understand if this is a distance sensor or a distance switch (only the detection of a threshold).

This is classed as distance switch with 4-20 and Voltage analogue output. You sensor will tell you in label what it is doing on output.

can I measure this ultrasonic sensor some thick foam? in a wet state.
