      I never got to go on the rocket ride, on the people mover track. I have seen videos, it looks cool and fun. I just want it back so that i can try it out.

      With the advent of Gear VR, Google Cardboard, and Google Daydream Disney has been looking for ways to cash in on VR. The sad thing is they could very easily just recreate their extinct attractions in VR from the original blueprints and have an instant success.

  • @epolk1968

    The Peolpemover actually closed because Rocket Rods used the Peoplemover track. It was the Rocket Rods that was damaging the tracks and the damage a due to speed-related vibrations, not vehicle weight.

      Omg, my heart just did a goo-gooey-flutter-flutter at the very idea of that!
      The one thing I miss THE MOST is the night-time electrical parade at Magic Kingdom called
      “SPECTRO-MAGIC”!
      It was the first time a parade ever made me cry - and I didn’t even notice that my cheeks were soaked with tears… until it was over and we were walking away!
      So crazy!!
      If I could have ONLY ONE Disney World Wish, it would be to bring that exact parade back (in its original format) so I could take in that breath-taking magic & beauty once again!
      Even now, if I search & play the Spectro-Magic song here on TH-cam, the magic is gonna get me again and my tear ducts will work overtime!
      So strange how that can happen…
      To be fair, bag pipes get me going too for some reason.
      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      Funny, It would likely be one of the more popular parks. Maybe it would make the so-called imagineers step back and think, "Hey, maybe our decision to remove that ride wasn't the best decision after all".

    I was born in 1970 and when we started going to Disneyland as a kid, I was only able to go on few rides. Which included The people mover, Adventure through inner space and the Skyway. A very cool gimmick on the Inner space ride was when waiting in line, you could look through a microscope of a row miniature Omni-movers on a miniature conveyor belt. And then on the ride when "shrunk" you could look up at the bottom of a giant microscope with a big eye looking at you. Pretty cool effect from a 6 year old perspective.

      Chris Disney This might sound dumb, but I think the late 70's. I have great memories with my parents and my brother going there. Especially on the Matterhorn. We would argue about which parent we would get to ride with LOL. But the 80's were a great time too.

    America Sings is the number one thing I miss, along with Adventure Through Inner Space, the original Main Street Electrical Parade, The Skyway, The People Mover (with TRON) and I had the pleasure of experiencing all of these many, many times over (born in 1970).

    I loved Adventure through Inner Space. And thanks for showing the opening and closing dates. I had no idea it lasted until I was almost 25! It was a really trippy, beautiful ride. Perfect for the 60's. My dad, however, thought it was a bit cheesy because the large snowflakes were clearly made out of styrofoam. But a very cool ride overall.
    Also miss the People Mover - a great low-key ride that let you relax but you still got to see so much and be a part of all the goings on in Tomorrowland.

  • @bruceygoosey908

    The boats were a wonderful break on a hot day. Disneyland had a few rides which were designed to give people a quiet space in their day, or some physical relief, and the boats were one of them. I really liked them, and I miss those little breaks built into things. The park's gotten way too intense and taxing for me.

    Growing up in Southern California in the late 60's and 70's, I had the pleasure to ride on all of these Extinct Attractions. I agree with all of the Riding Attractions you listed except for the motor boats (you can ride a very similar ride at Legoland California). They sucked and would still suck. Also they were not located where the Finding Nemo ride is... that was still basically the same ride before 'Finding Nemo" with a more exploration theme. the boats were up closer to "It's A Small World" between the two Autopias that existed then. I don't know why they changed the Swiss Family Robinson Tree house to the Tarzan Tree house, except for I don't think there are many kids who have seen the movie. I think they should relocate Star tours to Star Wars Land and replace "Adventures Through Inner Space"
    I no longer live in So Cal, but I am taking my family to Disneyland in early 2018. I can not wait!

    I've been going to Disneyland since the early 60's and remember when The People Mover and Adventures Through Inner Space opened. I was not a fan of the People Mover, as a kid I found it boring. Aside from being a nice place to take a rest, I don't get it. I loved ATIS and would enjoy seeing a updated version return. I also loved the original SFR treehouse, but I think the Tarzan theme is more relevant and has a wider appeal than a live action film from 1960.
    The motor boats were ok. They actually existed before the submarine lagoon. Once the lagoon was built it appeared like it connected to the other waterway, but it did not. The lagoon had to have clear filtered water. The motor boats water was dyed to hide the track the boats were on.

    • @skinflutey
      @skinflutey 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bruce Marshall I agree about the people mover. Same with the sky way. They were both attractions that when you got on them you instantly regretted it and wanted off. Except you had to wate until they completed their trip. Plus no one was really riding them hence why they got rid of them.

  • @slapstock
    @slapstock 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm old enough to remember ATIS blowing my mind like no other ride, and young enough to believe Disneyland was actually shrinking people.

  • @Corvynh
    @Corvynh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    Heads up: Motor Boat Cruise shared the same water as the submarine voyage. It wasn't there instead of the Submarine Voyage. You can still go on the dock of the motorboat cruise and last time I was there you could still find some track in the water!

    • @chadmicheil7315
      @chadmicheil7315 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The water used to be connected

    • @Corvynh
      @Corvynh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah exactly. The water was the same water but they both existed at the same time. One didn't replace the other.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is incorrect. The Submarine Lagoon and Motor Boat Cruise waterways were never connected but separated by a seawall below the Fantasyland Autopia overpass.

    • @Corvynh
      @Corvynh 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are right in a way. There was a small wall separating the two but it was still all the same water. When the lagoon was drained so that Nemo could be added in, the water in the former motor boat cruise area was also subsequently drained.

    • @cayoooga
      @cayoooga 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was not the same water system. The Submarine Lagoon was a clear water system while the Motorboat Cruise was part of the main water system which was not clear.

      Why? Why does everything Disneyland HAVE to be connected to a cartoon or comic book now? One of the cool things about the park used to be that there were a lot of rides that had NOTHING to do with the movies.

    Seeing the Skyway part going through the mountain brought back a few scraps of memories of my parents when they were together as I was a pre-schooler at 3 or 4 years old going on that ride and all of us "Whoa"ing when we went through the mountain.

    I first went to Disneyland a couple of months after it first opened, at age three, so I've been going for awhile. The ride I miss the very most is the Carousel of Progress. It gave such a positive view of what the future would be! You can get a feel for what it was, and hear the theme song, in the first few minutes of the movie Tomorrowland.

  • @KoubuPilot
    @KoubuPilot 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Born in 81. Not sure if I ever got to ride Innerspace, but I've done the rest on this list. People Mover didn't close for the reason you gave. Rocket Rods replaced People Mover ad a thrill ride but didn't have the budget to make the changes needed on that track. It was only $25 million. The rods took their toll on the track (possibly the buildings, too!). Houston Intercontinental Airport also has a Disney People Mover that still operates today.

    • @LadyKC67
      @LadyKC67 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the Rocket Rods that destroyed the track, not the weight of the Peoplemover. And they never could keep the Rocket Rods working, they constantly broke down. They need to do something with that space. If they moved the rockets upwards and brought back the Peoplemover (and the theater up there), they could move a huge chunk of Tomorrowland traffic up there and free up the walkways. Like it used to be.

    Hi! Just found your channel! I'm 48 and remember all these extinct rides and I completely agree with this line up. As they all left the park, I was devastated and a kid/teen. And YES, Adventures through Inner Space would be amazing today! Also, I miss the old submarine ride. The original way. I know it got changed to the Little Mermaid at one time but I'm not sure if they did anything else with it. Now, I'm off to binge watch more of your episodes! Happy New Year!

    Actually the PeopleMover was turned into another, fast-paced ride. It was determined that the People Mover would not fit the new feeling of the updated Tomorrowland when it was initially being redesigned.
    The tracks for the People Mover were converted into tracks for the rockets. However, those rockets did not work. If I remember right, I was told by a cast member that they were shut down after only a year because maintenance was too high.
    To make things worse, the entire redesign of Tomorrowland got changed.

    Frontierland used to have an open-air bare-ground arena where Native American Indians would perform ceremonial dances and invite children to come down from the bleachers to join in the dance finale. Next there were live mule trails where I as a child was lifted by cowpoke castmember onto a saddled mule, tethered to other mules ahead of mine, and commenced onward down some trail which I I don't recall the scenery - only the nape and shoulders of my mule and the backside of the mule ahead...

    The skyway also made it quicker to get from one side of the park to the other. It sure beat walking. That is why when I go to Great America, why I use their skyway ride.
    More parks needs things like a skyway ride.

    The skyride is my fav attraction even if i never went to disneyland. The reason i liked the skyway/ski lift is because it is built by von roll and it is also a VR101. A VR101!!! The Vr101 used to be built everywhere but they were all closed, except for some in the US, and especially the chairlift at Krupka, in czech republic, it is the last vr101 side-chair remaining, all the rest were scrapped.

    I remember going through innerspace. It was so cool. I was so fascinated. When you passed by that big, syringe-looking thing you can actually see the people were smaller. I had no idea how they did that but it was so cool. I thought it was just a dream because I went there when I was really young. After that I never saw it again. I was wondering if that ride really existed because I didn't even know the name of it until recently.

    I hate change and Disneyland should be a museum! On that note, my top 5 extinct attractions for Disneyland are:
    1) Country Bear Jamboree
    2) Adventure Thru Inner Space
    3) Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland
    4) Tom Sawyer Island... The real one, with all the good playground stuff and an open fort.
    5) The Peoplemover
    And no, the fact that 3 of the 5 of these are at WDW isn't lost on me. A tonne of Magic Kingdom's appeal is that it's, like, retro-Disneyland.

    "The motor boat cruise was where the Submarines are today" is false. the modern Autopia construction filled most the water MBC went through. I'm pretty sure the subs have always been the same size. Also, the 2 bodys of water are seperate.

    Hands Down most wanted attractions back #1 Petting Zoo, where, when this video was made in 2009, was still in place, as they did not take it out until they started work on the soon to be "star wars land."
    #2, skyway. - totally agree. Why dont they just bar up the cars so that you CANT jump out? Or put rollercoaster bars over your shoulders? Or, or, or,????!!! I mean, come on imagineer's! I still look lustfully over to the fantasyland dock while i am on KC. A guy can dream cant he?
    P.S.- dont worry about missing the shrinking man or molecular man ride, by monsanto ( hall of chemicals)... it actually scared me as a child, because that haunted mansion guy voice, whom I always thought was Vincent Price (and should have been), made it really scary, and I thought we were actually shrunk. Once I got older, the ride was super lame and boring and only worth a 10 minute wait at the most.
    #3 Country Bear Jamboree- the hungry bear restaurant takes up to much room, and the food sucks. But wait, they just added a nice walkway and more seating space uncovered, where you can sit by the rivers and watch the trains, twain, and colombia go by! Cool! BUT, I would still rather have Jamboree back. It was and still would be epic. The winnie the pooh ride is cool.
    These last 2 are only because I never got to try them, as I was born in 1973. The coal mine/rainbow caverns ride, and burro/mule pack ride. I guess i have to be happy with thunder mountain, and glimpses of the tunnel across the water, and the fish wheel that rotates every once in awhile. ( i saw teetering rock whilst peeking through fencing into star wars land, so Old School before my day even DL might be rep'd in star wars land!!
    Honorable mentions:
    Mission to the moon
    People mover
    Sleeping beauty castle moat boats
    Flying saucers (space mountain plaza)
    STARCADE

    (Sorry for all the comments!) I do miss the Swiss tree. (Another attraction that provided a quiet pause, with a shady tree to keep off the heat.) But the idea of having people hang around doesn't work, because there's the people behind them waiting to move through. I remember that if anyone lingered, everyone else would be stuck waiting and it could get very annoying. Maybe if the stairway was larger, so people could walk around each other. But the best way is just to keep people moving.

    Adventure through Inner Space was the best. My sister and I used to ride it 5-6 times everytime we went. We loved the voice of the narrator. Also, they wouldn't be able to open up more areas in the tree house. Kids are brats now and don't respect anything. They will vandalize and break everything.
    The Peoplemover was awesome and we loved the "Tron" part where the light cycles would be riding around you. I'm so surprised Disney never took advantage of all the great things they could do to make a Tron ride or a 3-d show.

    America 360 is not a ride, but something I miss at Disneyland. For those who don't know or remember, it was the theatre that you stood up in with rail down the middle to prevent you from falling. Then Disney took you on the sites and sound of different part of America. The cool part was that it was film with a 360 degree view of everything. Between the Rocky Mountains to Tree in the Fall in Vermont, to San Diego you had views all around. Plus it was dark and had AC which is great in the summer.

    I can't say I "miss" Skull Rock because I'm only 20 so I wasn't alive when it was around. But after seeing old photos of it and learning about it, it seems like a cool looking attraction. My dad said he remembers it when he went to DIsneyland when he was a kid. It looked like a nice place to eat lunch at and relax and enjoy the view.
    But I believe it was where Big Thunder is now, therefore there isn't a place to put it if it hypothetically was to be reinstalled.

    I went to Old Tuscon for the first time this year. Was really cheap, onlly a few attractions but I loved loved loved it. for what it was. Had a feeling of Frontierland in the ago years. i thought I'd just spend an hour but I was there nearly all day. I mention this only because the train ride in Old Tuscon reminded me a bit of Nature's Wonderland at Disneyland--just without animatronic animals.

    When this video was shown for Disneyland in Anaheim, CA:
    1) As opposed to the old PeopleMover (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000) in Tomorrowland's same above ground platform, starting around 2021-2023, when we decide to bring back the New PeopleMover with extra safety rails plus electromagnets (just like at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL) and remember if that amusement park is not allowed to do that, still it could be the Heathrow Pod Tour, it could be iMover, it could be Boxcar Tour or it could be a new ride with normal speed that is more comfortable than ever before.
    2) As our final decision unlike it returns at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL (unlike at Sea World / San Diego Zoo both in San Diego, CA, Great America in Santa Clara, CA, Six Flags Over Georgia in Atlanta, GA & Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ), the Original Disneyland Park in Anaheim, CA cannot bring back the Skyway Ride.
    3) After the completion of Star Wars Land in 2019, if Star Tours is moved to a same new area or removed from Tomorrowland, it could be the New Adventure Thru Inner Space or it could be a new ride that could require space.

    I was born in 1965, and got to go to Disneyland nearly every summer of my childhood with my family. Adventure through Inner Space was one of those rides that we always went on, primarily because the line was always short. And I remember being terribly disappointed by that ride every time, because as you moved in line towards the loading area, it looked very much like you were going to head straight into this shrink-ray thing and come out really small, but once you got into the car and it headed for the shrink ray, you couldn't help noticing the slight turn the car took away from the shrunken car path you had observed on the way in. As for the educational aspect of the ride, it probably stood as a damn good attempt to teach us something, but I don''t rightly remember exactly what that was.
