This might indeed be true. I've got a portable Nespresso capsule type coffee maker (Cera+) and the equivalent of the toothed ring is completely smooth (and very narrow, almost sharp). It does not leak with non-Nespresso capsules, made of aluminium but without the silicone seal. My DeLonghi EN 550, with the toothed ring, does leak with non-Nespresso capsules, as described.
Tih DE Longie nespresso machine is leaking where the bakelite attaches to the thermo block. I have repaired a number of these machines for family and friends by replacing all the o rings including from the pump to the thermo block. But this one is definitely leaking between the alloy of the thermo block and the bakelite capsule holder. It feels like it will break when I try to remove it but I am sure it is a press fit with and O ring. the thermo block is sold as a complete unit number 22 on the delonge parts page but it is not worth replacing that part but I will persist and try to get it apart even if it breaks as it cannot be used as it is. I am a long retired Electrician and appliance repair person so I look at these machines as a bit of an unpaid hobby and also a challenge. I would appreciate your thoughts and if you have ever dismantled the thermo block.
So interesting about the pod issue! Could you explain why my pixie brew unit won't lock tightly? Just started happening! It opens when the brewing starts...spring or??? Thanks so much!
Could you put a small rubber band around the neck of the capsule (the broadest part of the capsule under that ridge) to work as the silikon gasket in the original capsule.
I noticed the small silicone rim already on the original nespresso capsules 🤔 It would be interesting to know if someone could use a tiny flat silicone o-ring or a silicone rubber ring and simply put it on the alternative capsules.. I mean in a way that the ring can be pulled off and re-used? Maybe theres a way but I couldn't find such mall gasket rings online so far. Maybe its worth to try this option 👍
Hello from Brazil! My Inissia leaks even without capsules... The leaking occurs at the bottom... What could be the problem? Thank you and best regards.
i have a maestria and it is leaking but also not puncturing the capsules. if running the machine with no capsule some water comes out through the spout and some drips into the capsule chamber. With a capsule it all goes to the capsule chamber (barely nothing comes out of the spout), it even leaks from the top where the capsule goes, and then when i reopen the capsule holder more water falls down that had stayed in there. I have tried disassembling it to clean the plate, the spout... but nothing seems to be working :( (i dont think there is a big o-ring on this brewing unit, or at least it is not accessible) Do you know what else it could be,, im so desperate to fix this machine
I always wondered why they leak. I originally figured it's some sort of over pressure protection, but this makes much more sense even.

The bakelite part detaches from the thermo block by twisting. Between there is a small oring.

Hope it's not the bearing..I just watched your assembly video...Yikes! Looks like fun! Thoughts?

I dont think it will work because the rubber ring has to sit upper on the capsule lip.

Do the Starbucks pods have the right seals?

Great information 😊
Need to find a flat oring to move from pod to pod when you brew. What's the outside diameter of the bottom of the pod?
Good luck finding a flat oring of that dimension
Excellent video. Subbed.
I have an Essenza D30 and it is leaking. Oring change, still leaking. I think the plastic tube is damaged
Thank you.
