Such a great tutorial and easy to follow. Of course I don't have the Peacock Blue, but my Cobalt Turquoise Light w/bit of Winsor Blue worked just as well for the water. I finally bought the Dynasty Quill Brush from The Brush Guy's about a month ago, it's super inexpensive and love working with it for watercolors. I've learned so much from watching your tutorials and appreciate your generosity, Rick!
A pleasing restful composition with this palette....the foreground blue of the water really brightens & lightens the feel of the composition. It was helpful to see how your pigments are ready mixed on the pallete & ready to go.
Very informative and lovely picture! And I agree with the ones that say you are a natural teacher! Do you ever teach classes?? Would love to take some!!
I love your paintings, and I so appreciate how you explain your decisions. That's so helpful for those of us in the learning process. Thank you so much!
Excellent tutorial. Love the mixtures idea. Keeps me from making needless remixing of colors. Helps to keep the palate consistent throughout the painting. Thank you, Rick. I enjoyed this.
I just love this! It's simple but so beautiful! Your explanations and demonstrations are so so valuable. For example, subjects such as "tangents" and "composition" are easier to understand when you explain why you omit or change things (from the photo). Thank you!
Most generous watercolor teacher on TH-cam and I for one have learned so, so much! So grateful as I am home bound and Rick has brought a joy of learning and painting to my life! Again, so grateful. Have a great weekend from Julie 🎨
It was extremely helpful to see your palette with various colours readily available. I am assuming you pull these colours from the various wells around the circumference of your palette (rather than from the tube). I know some artists don't seem to worry about contaminating their colours, but I suspect you are cleaning your brush after you pull each colour into the centre of your palette?
I always mix on my palette using paint from the wells on my palette. I never take paint directly from the tube to my mixing area and never use paint directly from the tube.
Rick I really enjoy your videos and your teaching narration. May I ask how long a work like this will take you to do. Also, what is your art background? Do you teach? Do you own a studio? Just wondering. Thank you and have a great week.
Hi Judith, It takes 1-2 hours normally. I returned to art a few years ago after being away from it for many years. I have formal training from art college and workshops in my background. I'm focused on it full time now. I have a home studio which you can see on the studio page of my website.rsurowiczart.com/studio/
