Thank you Jame🎉wonderful honest review which is SO appreciated! A friend of mine read it and has same sentiments as you, she also said it is very sad to see the tragedy in that family and as much as Lisa loved her son the continued drug use generation after generation😢...
Yes, it was hard to see/read. Even the other drugs of choice and alcohol seemed to be used so recreationally, almost like it was just to be expected. :-( She mentioned not wanting to parent like her mom did...but I was surprised she didn't seem to shy away from the alcohol...and then not from the drugs. It was very sad.
I have watched so many of her interviews that I was wondering how much more there could be in the book. thank you for your review. I will be leaving for a week so have decided there is no rush to order it before I leave. your review was very gentle & kind. I have heard lots of explicit revelations from questions being answered by Riley. you did 'perfect' thank you for the review.
Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it. I didn't want to say too much, but also wanted people to know there wasn't a lot that was "new".
I don’t pick up too many celebrity memoirs, and wouldn’t have bought this book even without hearing your thoughts. These books can’t help but impress just how much fame can harm people. They live what may seem to some as charmed lives, but I wouldn’t trade my normal routine existence for theirs. It makes me feel pity for them but never envy. This was a thoughtful review, Jame❤️
That is 100% true!!! I always feel like, when you can have anything you want at any time...how do you find joy in anything? It seems like a constant search and just kind of miserable.
I appreciate your opinion of the book, but I have a very different opinion. This is why. I numbered them just because it is easier to keep track of my thoughts. 1. I thought the structure of the book was creative and elevated the content. Having the transcribed parts of Lisa’s tapes in one font and Riley’s part in another part made it easy to follow. I like the choice of the cover of the book and how it was cropped.Somewhat symbolic. 2. I could hear Lisa’s voice in the book. An author is not putting her word together. They are her words. 3. I feel like I learned much more about why Lisa had self-destructive behaviors. Her words stated how she felt. It was not just a description of what happened. 4. I loved Riley’s insight into the events of the family. I could relate to Riley being the only person with a leveled head when everyone else in the family are continually make choices that effect your own life. You’re just stuck on the roller coaster. 5. I appreciated that there were only pictures at start of each chapter. I think an insert of a photo section would have taken away from the tone of the book. I would have been happy if there were no pictures in the book. I rate a book or film on how strong an emotion I had during the reading/watching and how I felt at the end. Happy, sad, angry, etc. I chuckled a little, teared up quite a bit, and had a horrible pit in my stomach at times. I read it the day it came out and I still feel a dark cloud. This book is about child trauma, loss, and grief and one’s attempt to cope with those obstacles in life. I give this book a 4.5 out of 5. At 66 years old, I have read books and watched numerous documentaries about Elvis, I have learned to have very low expectations in anything that is related to him. I was wrong this time.
Oh my goodness, I absolutely LOVE your review of this book. :-) I appreciate how well thought out your points were and the way you viewed it. I respect what you have said and am so glad you felt the way you did. :-) I maybe have watched too much before the book came out. I have loved and felt for Lisa Marie for as long as I can remember, I think partially because I am about the same age. I think I just wanted more information that I didn't already know. I think the book that I felt provided the best insight to Elvis and some to Lisa Marie was Jennifer Thompson's book. I just feel for anyone associated with Elvis and his family, there has been so much tragedy. I would absolutely love for you to comment on any and/or all books I have read. I just really really enjoyed your input and the thought that went into it. I don't know that I ever judged a book based on emotion. I like that idea. Had I judged it in that respect I would have scored it higher. I just kept reading through it and was so sad, since I just knew what was coming in so many parts and wished the outcome had been different.
@@jamesjamm I am glad you found my comment constructive. I would love to read a book you have read. I am retired and I actually have time to read without interruption.
@@jamesjamm I enjoy both. I am currently reading The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson. It is about the lead up to the firing on Ft. Sumter and the start of the civil war. He is my favorite non- fiction author. I finished Lessons in Chemistry before that. Any suggestions for the next read?
@@tlo3571 Do you like fantasy at all? I didn't know I did until I read one of the Emily Wilde books. I really enjoyed Horse by Geraldine Brooks. It was based on real events and a real painting and I enjoyed it. I haven't read Lessons in Chemistry yet, the cover is cute. My friend reads anything and everything by Erik Larson. I haven't as of yet. I am currently reading "How to Summon a Fairy Godmother" and it is a fun "palate cleanser". :-)
I loved the book and the creative way the book was put together however it really is not a complete picture of Lisa’s life. Either it was not completed or Riley decided not to print it. There was nothing in the influence of Scientology in her life and her dramatic exit. I have read an in depth interview with an independent journalist she did about Scientology and it was jaw dropping. She also mentioned that Scientology was pushing her to leave MJ once allegations came out as they did not want the association. Her relationship with her brother was not mentioned at all, her filing for bankruptcy after discovering that people she trusted including her mother were dipping into EPE funds. Her relationship with her mother was glossed over but didn’t go into detail, and neither her relation with Michael Lockwood or her being a mum to her twins. There is so much more to be said that if talking about a memoir would be crucial as these were all significant events. And is no one going to make reference that Lisa said her mother waited until she was 18 to have sex with her father but she was 14??? Priscilla has claimed all her life she waited until til her wedding night
I really liked your review of this book. It might be a better read for those who don't know much about Elvis history. If you have read or listened to a many of the published books about Elvis or follow news about the Presley's or even listen to the Elvis Channel on SiriusXM then I suppose it is a bit of a bummer not to learn new facts in this book. I too enjoyed the back story of LM and MJ. Also the Prologue too. For me it solidified that Danny Keough is the unsung hero of the family; similar to Jerry Schilling. What happens next? And what will the next book be and from who? Glad we still have Riley to keep Graceland and the Presley name going for the fans.
Yes, Danny seems to really be a pillar behind this family. I appreciate how he has always stayed in the background, steadfast and strong. I was so happy Riley is taking the reigns and keeping Graceland going. I am such a fan, losing Lisa Marie was so sad. So much tragedy in the family.
She kept the room at 55 degrees and per the funeral home director that would work. I was a bit surprised, based on his manner of passing that he was kept that way. I think he grief was clouding some judgement.
He wrote a book years ago and admitted to having being attracted and fixated on a young Lisa Marie. The fact that he's denying it now, blows my mind after he wrote about it himself. I had to stop reading his book years ago due to the sickening nature of that. I've read just about every book about Elvis, and Priscilla. His is the only one I couldn't finish.
I don't think her chapter about MJ is filled with anything new. Other than Danny flying in and going door to door. She has basically said it all in the 90s and in her 2010 interview with Oprah. I wish the book went into more in depth about that part of her life but it seemed like she passed around the time she started on that chapter of her life.
I was a Elvis fan since 1956 when I was 12. Have every shred of anything about he and his family. The take away from this is her father's devotion to her, The way her mother treated her, left out is the time when her mother puts her in the cult of Scientology at only 10. It controlled her life till she died. Priscilla's boyfriend Mike Edwards who she lived with for 6 years who molested Lisa Marie. Mike Edwards, wrote about his sexual feelings for Lisa in his 1989 book &Priscilla Elvis and Me. You don't seem to know that Priscilla's son Navarone, by another boyfriend said he was glad Lisa was dead. You don't seem to know anything, don't think you read the same book.
I'm not sure what you mean? I never spoke about her brother, but clearly know he exists? I didn't think it was a point of the book, nor focus? You have read a lot of information, I am truly interested to know what you felt you read in this book that was unknown to you?

I agree! I was expecting more about LMP relationship with COS. I feel like a lot of LMP content was left out on purpose.
Yes, it does seem that way. I am glad to have read it, but it left me wanting more.
Being someone who knows nothing about the Presley family I found this review very useful. Thanks Jame. 👍🏼
I'm glad you felt so. :-) I have been a huge fan since I was little.
I have watched so many of her interviews that I was wondering how much more there could be in the book. thank you for your review.

I think Riley is holding back because of her grandmother
.Maybe she will come out with a part 2 after her grandmother dies.
You know I hadn't thought of that, but that does seem like it is a possibility.

Yes, I was really hoping there would be more.
I loved the book , l think it said alot about the true Priscilla, that l wasn't quite sure about until l read this book.
I am really glad I read it, as I try to devour all I can on Elvis, Priscilla, Lisa, etc. I am so glad you enjoyed it.
Nice review ❤😊
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. :-)

Michael Edwards is still living and as put out a statement denying them claims
I did not know that, I did just look that up and read his daughters responses and that he denied it.
