Not sure if you have covered this yet but in terms of finances, do you feel financially secure as an Officer even with everything going on right now with the economy?
Are you able to put money in a retirement account, able to afford housing, car payments etc? You don't have to get too personal with it, but wanted to know how financially comfortable new officers are!
Hi! Those are really good questions and I’m happy to answer.
With the economy being the way it is right, I would say I’m happy I went this route. There’s a lot of uncertainty currently and it’s nice to have a career right after college and know how much your pay is. Regardless if you’re happy with the pay/benefits, being an officer will always give you a leg up if you choose to get out.
Yes, you can put money in a retirement account! It’s one of the biggest perks. As far as housing, you get a monthly housing allowance (BHA or basic housing allowance). I’ll be recording our moving/PCSing process in the few upcoming days. I’ll be sure to elaborate on all of this!
