  • Hey, i’m Caris welcome to my TH-cam channel where I talk about all things tinnitus! 👂🏻
In this video ill be talking about how im getting on with my new Starkey hearing aids!
Tinnitus isn't the end of a happy life and i'm here to prove it. I used to blame everything on my tinnitus and since accepting it, my life has changed.
Tinnitus has been a companion of mine for as long as I can remember. I'm now 22 years old and after many rough years with tinnitus, I have now began to live my life happily. My tinnitus hasn't gone away, but my negative response to it has.
When I was struggling to cope, the search to find reliable information was almost impossible. I have made this channel in hope to reach you at a point in your journey where you need it most.
Here i'll share all of my mistakes, management techniques and most importantly, things I wish I knew about tinnitus.
    Thanks for being here!☺️

I went to the NHS for my hearing aid. I have had issues with my ears all my life (61 now). My ENT consultant and Audiologist have been great. My aid is a Signia Stretta and it’s a fantastic piece of kit. Bluetooth enabled and works with my iPhone perfectly.

What degree of hearing loss do you have and at what frequency (if I may ask)? I know it might be early, but have you noticed a reduction in your tinnitus now that you've been using hearing aids? I understand what you mean when you say that hearing tests aren't tailored to tinnitus patients! Last time I took one I was was confused if I was hearing my tinnitus or the test tone a couple of times lol

Hey, I have moderate mid range hearing loss in both ears. My ears are certainly more distracted with new sounds which is distracting away from my tinnitus! Also, glad I’m not the only one who finds it difficult with hearing tests with tinnitus!

@LetsTalkTinnitus I had a hearing test with wobbly tones so I didn't have that problem this time.

It would be nice to have a cure! These days I prefer to live in the moment instead of longing for something that may ever happen (fingers crossed though)! Audiologists often say being fixated on a cure can delay habituation. I recommend focusing on coping strategies such as CBT 🌟

I’m so fearful to even go out in public with my rechargeable bluetooth hearing aids that they’re going to pop out, and I’m not gonna know it, or I do, but the guy walking behind me just stepped on one and crushed it. Rechargeable hearing aids are also dependent on electricity, which means if my power goes out due to a storm for many days, my hearing aids are useless. It’s best to have a battery-operated hearing aid as a back up, no? You don’t suffer with hyperacusis yet? I don’t know which is worse. I feel hyperacusis is depressing me more, because sounds, especially music, sounds so harsh. You cover a lot of ground in you videos. Nice job.

I actually saw a crushed hearing aid the other day, it made me sad and also anxious about my own! I do have sensitive hearing which often catches me by surprise- wouldn’t say its extreme enough to be hyperacusis. Thanks for your kind words, I’ll continue to make more videos. If theres anything else you want me to cover on my experience, feel free to give me some ideas! Wishing you all the best on your hyperacusis journey. You’re a very strong individual.
