Matt, once again I have heard something new. You mentioned lost flight feathers means clear eggs. Is this only on the males because of mounting? I started breeding birds before the internet and I have only met one gentleman who moved near me who was a wealth of information. Although he did say he learned some things from me. Thank you so much for your program, I'm always learning something new! Dave
😁 with canaries it’s relatively easy, cinnamon is a sexed linked gene, a male bird is either visual or a carrier, you need to know what they’re bred from mind. With the redpolls it’s similar but the pied gene can also be visual and none visual. Again knowing the parentage is key

Thanks Dave, dropping the flight feathers is indicative of the bird going in to the moult, it’s highly unlikely they will fill eggs then

With the white ground birds when they get to a certain age they show the white feathers on the breast and under the legs
