Thank you, I enjoyed that Video in Germany. Great Landscape, great Freedom to drive the Beach, is not possible here. I enjoye my Outback from 2016, an excellent Car for all purposes. I have retired and travel a lot. Best Wishes for you and your Family!
This is the best Subaru Outback Wilderness video I have seen other than the one produced by Subaru, good job. You showed airing down lower the psi farther than most people think they can go and digging out the frame to get the proper use of the traction boards.
Thank you I appreciate it. To tell you honestly, I wanted to record everything but then I lost interest when I got stuck. All I was thinking was how to get out of the sand. It was my first time getting stuck and it was not fun at all but I learned a lot. Luckily the gentleman pulled over and gave me some tricks how to get unstuck.
Good to see you enjoying your Wilderness, lower that pressure down to 10 psi, I run 8 in the rear sometimes, but keep 10 in the front to prevent rolling the tyre and getting sand under the bead (leaks). You will be amazed.
My first car is a 2011 subaru impreza r and since then i did not look for any other makers. At the moment im diving 2018 subaru forester. Great car and i dont know why some are complaining about subaru’s cvt system. I dont have any problem with it. Now im waiting for the 2023 outback sports that I ordered and i trade my forester. I cannot wait for the wilderness edition here in australia. Good for you that you have wilderness edition in your area.
I run 10psi in the back and 15 up front. No issues at all so far. You can absolutely feel the difference when you’re running in the 10’s way better traction
This video shows exactly what NOT to do: he was in Xmode 1 all the time and why we was bugged down each time he came to a stop. Leave it in Xmode 2 and let the machine dig itself out. That's why you bought a OB Wilderness!
You are correct. I’ve mentioned it as well not to be like me. In that situation there no other way out, other than digging under the frame. In that clip you’ll see when I bugged down, the tires just kept on spinning bec. It’s suspended on the frame. There are 2 instances that I did let the machine dig itself out but frame stuck will not work. Great observation though. I appreciate your input.
I really love this outback wilderness. They did a fantastic job on the design, and with listening to what the consumer wants. I have a 2018 outback with the 3.6r. I’m thinking about upgrading it to the new wilderness
I had to pull a Toyota Rav4 parked right next to my sister's Outback in the mud . My sister backed out of the same mud and never spun a tire . I have a 2024 Outback and all the off road accessories hitch winch , 47" traction pads , rope , tow strap and so on . I've never used any of it , but I do use a bit of common since also .
Cool Vid! Very informative...waiting for ours in 2 more weeks ( after 3 long months of waiting)! Hope you you can post videos later on how it’ll drive in the snow👍
Thank you for your kind words. Yes that’s the plan this coming winter. We are planning to go to Yosemite for my daughter’s birthday in December. Would love to try this wagon out in the snow as well.
You need to air down to 10 psi, 18 is definitely not enough. I have a 2016 outback with the 2.5 and I driven on the beach many times and never gotten stuck!
Without bead lock wheels, you risk de-beading at 10 psi if you are bouncing around doing donuts and such. I wouldn't go any lower than 12-14 psi while operating and only go lower if you get stuck.
5:02 and this my friends, is why i keep my tires stock for sand. I have an SG forester, no X mode, just good ol symmetrical AWD and an EJ. Never had issues in sand......
Sand in different places are diffent as well. Beach sand is usually not too hard since it close to the sea and wet enough. I've been there a few times and never got stuck. I thought my car is good, so I entered the desert near death valley. Then I stuck in a small basin for a few hours, a truck helped me out and almost got stuck there as well. Be careful don't drive in small basins in the desert, hard to get out and hard to get noticed by others.
So what sand would you recommend to avoid and how would I handle sand well (which mode and such.) I just bought my forester wilderness yesterday and would like to get the most out of it.
@@sadlifesock8473 Wet sand is easier. Btw, you should never stop in a low area, keep your car moving until drive out if you accidentally entered one. Deep snow/sand mode is good for it. You can bring 2 traction boards, it will save you a few hours of waiting if really stuck in the desert. Make sure you have signal in where you go, or buy a satellite device. Be safe and happy new year👍
The only engine available for the Outback Wilderness is the 2.4T. The suspension is higher than the standard Outback models at 9.5” of ground clearance.
Nice video.... But sand? Seriously? My BP was in mud up to the doors and no problem. occurred... These Wilderness videos are somehow getting "fancy" ... I like the idea though and I am loving it... Is there any way to address a few thoughts straight to Japan? I´d like to ask a few executives about the reasons of not selling these in Europe...
Temps are normal. No issues with overheating. We did off roading in the dessert a month ago with 110 F temps. AC on the whole day even stationary. No issues at all.
Yes with reservation. Go to reservecalifornia.com and check every morning around 8am. Usually they are fully booked but there is a good chance you’ll secure a spot if you check every morning. It’s 10 dollars a night to camp in the beach, thats including the day pass for that day and for the next day. Well worth it!
There are other places you can drive on the sand in California. But that looks like a great location, and probably a lot bigger than the places I am thinking of, like Fiesta Island in San Diego. Of course there are no dunes. Just beach sand.
Pet peeve of mine with the Wilderness. I love it. But I wish it had even smaller wheels, or the option to FIT smaller wheels, because for instance what you are doing here would work so much better if you had 15 inch wheels and the same size tires. So much more air volume to air down, so much bigger of a float over sand and much bigger foot print. You are really limited even with airing down, by the height of the sidewalls. At least they didn't put 18's on it. They knew to put the smallest that would fit their new chassis design. But for my money, they should have offered a smaller wheel design for the offroad friendly model even if it meant smaller brake calipers for that option, and an extra charge. Still, my little pet peeve, but the rig is still fantastic and I'll likely buy one. I man go the other direction and just carve out the wheel wells to get the higher sidewall tires. But then you are losing torque going that direction. Databyter
Totally agree with you, but I think subaru made the wilderness to be more off road capable road car not really for off roading just like Jeep. I’ve seen another wilderness with lift kit and taller tires. For me, I’ll keep it the way it is since I’m on the road 99.99%. I wanna keep it as a road car but capable on off road. The geolanders are perfect compromise. They are comfortable on the road and it is also really good on off road.
@@knijz16 They are great tires, especially for what you were doing. I've been told that for sand you really don't want super aggressive mud type tires because it just digs itself a hole too quickly and you are stuck. You are better off with a mildly aggressive tire like what you have that is great for road and dirt, because it is less likely to dig a hole in sand too quickly and more likely to float on top. BTW, since we last talked I bought an Outback Wilderness. They say it could be coming in almost any day. Databyter
Stock speaker lang kabayan. Walang harmon kardon na speaker upgrade para sa Outback wilderness. Meron kaso sa upper trim. So far, decent naman yung sounds pero hindi the best.
I bring a garden hoe with me instead of a shovel. Faster than digging with a shovel and easier to get under the car and to clear a trench for the tires. Yeah like the guy in the sand buggy said, you need to dig out a path for your tires. Not just the front but also the rears. Another tip. Don't put a knit sweater on your kid for the beach. Bet it took forever to get all the sand out. Haha!
@@knijz16 wife should get a cordless hand held vacuum to clean the inside of the vehicle. Good idea of wife to brush sand off of the outside window sills.
Yep. That's what I would like also as the mpg on these are not great. A PHEV would be real sweet, the best of both worlds. But that would add to the cost. Was looking at a hybrid Crosstrek before but the battery took up trunk space in an already puny trunk and the all electric range was a joke. Also I would have to drive over to the next state to get one and I wouldn't be able to take advantage of any tax incentives. I am now wanting the Outback Wilderness now because the Crosstrek is too small to take long trips in for more than two people comfortably and with hauling things like luggage, coolers or whatever. I also like to keep things hidden in the trunk space rather than having to fold down the seats where things are out in the open.
Yes yes yes! Even if I turn off the traction control it only turns off partially. X mode deep snow and mud is the closest to off traction control. It will be nice if it has a real handbrake as well. That’s the only thing that I don’t like about modern cars.
