A distasteful story, sure, but what a delivery. Janssen is awesome here, just note-perfect; the rest of the cast, director, music score, camera work, etc are great. Well worth watching, on several levels.

Both Famke Janssen and Jaymie Darnan, they lived their roles nicely. Got tears at some scenes. For some, life is cruel. Thanks for uploading, really a fantastic film.

I knew as soon as she went to see her shamed priest ex that she was going to get caught coz that's just a dumbass move but then as I continued watching the movie, I was hoping that scene was going to be a red herring and that we were supposed to be tense that it was going to be close but they were actually gonna get away ...but then ... krapp ...I knew it all along. It was too much to hope for. It's just like if your husband or "live in love" is beating you, ya don't threaten to leave them - you pack your $#!t and hit the bricks! Disappear! And if you're gonna do the just and fair "crime" of taking your own child to make a matter life for him, you plan only to seek an opportune moment - nothing that can be discovered or get you caught - and you disappear, you don't heap crimes on yourself by visiting your ex and handcuff him, let any info slip, giving him "ammunition" for authorities to seek you out with prejudice, pissing them off and making for trigger happy gung-ho
cops. I was fortunately blessed with this same wisdom and got away clean and quiet.

You're right. The twist put to waste an otherwise good movie. It felt like the twist in the plot was thought out later for the sake of having a twist.

Famke won me over by her portrayal of Jean Grey in the X-Men series but this is ones just at another level. She completely owned this role. Fantastic 👏🏾

Naw she was even better as the man killer Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye.
Famke Janssen...............one of my favorite actresses, she doesn't receive the heralded credit that she deserves...... her ability to have you get lost in her performances, is a quality that deserves more acknowledgement.

Yeah. I do wish she'd have taken him quietly as that would have given her at least a day. But I understand why she didn't do that.
It goes both ways, child services is never about serving the interests of the child, its a business racket run through the courts. Parents lose but the child ultimately is the one that pays the price.

One of the best movies out there! Rich in it's telling as well as acting. A true feast for the soul and a lesson on what poses as humanity and what IS humanity and if you can't see the difference now you will after this movie! This train leaves soon- catch it!

Good for you Famke! Don't be type cast. You were fun in Deep Rising and very cool in X-Men, but you've got more to offer, than simply an pretty face and a nice figure. This film proves that Hollywood hasn't got a clue what to do with a bold actress, who refuses to conform to the mold. Go for it girl! Big fan here! PS: They treated Bette Davis exactly the same way. You're in good company.

The twist in the ending was silly, and ruined an otherwise good movie.
She is just amazing in this film--and once again proves that she is capable of playing literally any character--she is an amazing talent!

I agree! You can tell she’s tough, and being a female and shooting pool myself, I totally respect that! A lot of times some guys do not like it when you beat them, but most of the guys are nice and I respect them! I don’t have a cocky attitude either, I just play for fun! If I play with someone who is cocky I will beat them and I usually do! I love that feeling!
She can even play a nun or a serial killer I guess. What an actor.

Whoever wrote the script for this didn't have a clue how a real pool hustle acts. See 'The Hustler' for the best real hustler portrayal in film. Sorry, just the opinion of an x pool hustler. Other than that, the movie was interesting.

I don't mind sad endings if warranted. The scene where she confronted the husband was supposed to foreshadow a different ending, perhaps a positive one. It seemed like a twist was made for the sake of a twist, which ruined the movie. Good acting, directing, screenplay and cinematography, tho

Omg....that was SO SAD!!! I was hoping for a happily ever after ending....I feel that women’s pain so strong. She just wanted her child and for her child to be okay. It’s sad how many broken families there are and how many parents are pushed away from their own child. A mother will do anything for her child.

the cops would never have been there that quick, she and her son were several hours ahead, they drove all day an night to a bus station they weren't even there for 5 mins and the cop's showed up!! that was the lamest ending ever.
I completely agree. She had been driving all night, plus this was before smartphones... They would've made it to Canada.
And I agree; I hated the ending. To add salt to the would, Gully is obviously a teenager at the end and still getting letters from his Mom.... But I imagine the letters are coming from prison, since she got caught kidnapping. Did not like this ending at all.

Forget about whether the games of pool or poker are actually depicted here in this film, this is just the mcguffin. This is film making at it's best. A look inside the human spirit and soul and the simple lines around which family is drawn.
Look up the meaning of the title. Pounder the last few seconds of the story

It's not just typecasting, Hollywood has a narrow perspective on feminity and just doesn't write that many great roles for women after 30.

Most reality stories, the end sucks. Fake stories have great ending. Life is real no one gets out alive, truth hurts.
Ending didn't suck, it just ended leaving you to fill in the ending to the story. I filled it in this way: she was only grazed, they both jumped out and ran for the forest. She had the passports in her jacket and they both made it to Canada ok. The story ends with Gulley graduating from Law School. A fine ending.

Narrow margin starring gene hack men ultimate suspense movie. He got ocsar for best actor for French Connection movie. He acted in. Primal fear starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton is also good thriller.this movie is based on spilt personality.usual suspects ultimate thriller starring Kevin Spacey is also Good Suspense movie. As a gun shot victim, it was clear that she would not survive it. A gunshot wound is not instantaneous death. But the loss of vehicle control seemed very real and more realistic

I know a guy who composes and plays guitar music like the tune this film starts with. Does it all in his home studio. I've always said that his work - on the basis of the CD album I have - is great for films and TV but he's a little shy. His name is Dave Wyatt. (That's the other Dave Wyatt.) You can. It's a movie - pretend. So pretend the dad realizes that his mother shamed and bought her away. That dad realized that the kid needed to live a truthful and free life. That the kid needed to know his mom. So they didn't call the police. So the mom and the kid drove over to Canada and lived happily ever after. The closing credits show him at age 18 coming back to visit dad and the new wife. Grandma was long dead because she stroked out. And everyone lived happily ever after. The End. :-D There ya go. :-D
Most of the movie was the pool games to much to be honest, and she really needed to go for his ex and tell all her plans, couldn't she just make it worked and blame him later for his behavior 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

The ending is pretty much open ended u as the viewer have to decide what you think happened I think she didn't die she just passed out after getting shot and driving at the same time and loosing blood that's the way it should if been and shown a 6 min ending if what happened this is what would of happened she wouldn't have died would of went to jail for kidnapping and buying a unlicensed gun her son would of told authorities about how his father abuses him mentally and physically and that his mother just wanted to take him away from all that and he still would defend his mother then they would question the father and he would be angry and say how he's the victim and he wants to press all the charges on her then his father's mother would take custody if the son and tell him that if he doesn't drop the charges she would threaten him with something and his wife would finally have the guts to divorce him so he would say he wants to drop all the charges but the police would still charge her for the unliscensed gun they would give her 3 months Max with community service her son would visit her in jail and once again they'll talk about how they're going to be together again and that his this time will be different she's going to get a job so she can get him back and the movie ends with her getting out of jail and going outside and her son and his grandmother waiting and he smiles and the grandmother smile at her and he and she runs to each other and she tightly grabs him and hugs him and it ends that way
The grandmother would never do that! She was the one who originally broke them up while she was pregnant! She is still a nasty bitch. Sorry for the language.
Came for the free movie. Lured in by the music. Stayed for the story, camera work and acting. Great movie!

You can imagine the ending. The film is a good parallel movie. Not a kind of mainstream. A film which gives space for imagination is good one. This film showed the reality in relations and the agony of a mother who has great talent in sports.

Good movie but a f***ed up ending
Sorry, I had to stop watching this after the first pool scene. That is not a one pocket break. It's a straight pool break. I have played pool for over 25 years and seeing this makes the whole movie a turn off to me. At least do a little research about the sport when you decide to make a movie about it.
I agree. Straight pool or you could make a case that it was a snooker style break but certainly NOT 1 pocket. And as I pointed out in another comment... she sinks a ball but the cue ball runs into other balls sending them to the opponents pocket. No one would do that. It was hard to watch 100%. She did zero training either didn't hold her body or cue right it looked silly.

Not even skip any parts of this movie.
Except for the end after credits starts, looking for more clues. In the end I just realize very often real life is just like that, pure heart lost over wicked one.

What else could a guy ask for (along with the 6-pack of my favorite ale) to kill a boring Sat. night with? I may be easy, but I've got good taste. Thank-you Popcornflix, and you also Famke. (Almost forgot to mention that at the age of 62, it's been 52 or 53 years since my first game of billiards, so there's that also. I mean 8-ball is a decent-enough game , I guess, but billiards is truly the way to roll.)
