I recently upgraded to Kontakt 7, Now they got Kontakt 8 which I have to pay again. This tells me that I have to pay for every year I have to upgrade to Kontakt. I am planning to stop this vicious cycle of losing money each year, which is equivalent to a yearly sub. Very disappointed.
The only reason to upgrade, in my opinion, is if a Kontakt library requires the latest version. I think most available libraries still support even version 6. I will skip the paid upgrade, but I did start to use Kontakt 8 Player. It has the new tools for free.
It's always a tradeoff, but this time around the biggest part of the upgrade is Kontakt, and that's not the usual small, incremental tweakset -- it's a huge expansion of what K can do, and how you get it to do that. So I'd say if the new K isn't a huge deal for you, skip the upgrade. NI always lets you upgrade at least 2 or 3 versions at once. If you DO find the new K irresistible, then it's just bad luck to have already upgraded so recently. For me, what they've done to K is almost worth the whole price of the upgrade all by itself, so I gritted my teeth and blew a hole in my wallet.
I am so with you. I wish they took some of their "legacy" instruments and updated them for quality of life improvements and UI/UX improvements. Sadly, I fear, it isn't worth the $ in the eyes of the new owners.
I'm on Kontakt 7 atm. I don't think I'll pay out for another version of Kontakt until they intergrate Konmlete Kontrol into it! Having to open a plugin within a plugin is gettitng old now, especially when it's from the same developer.
It seems they are fazing out Komplete Kontrol, many of the features are now ntegrated into Kontakt 7/8 which are only compatible and accessible with the latest Mk3 versions of the S series keyboards
@@axonathanahh so you can preview instruments and presets in Kontakt 8 using the new S Series controllers and manipulate the controls in all NI instruments removing the need for Komplete Kontrol entirely?
@@ChristopherCoote-hr4uo Seems like Komplete Kontrol's only advantage is Play Assist, but they are moving it into Kontact, first one being chords, just missing scales and ARP.
With leap, I think you opened up the 1 shot in the 1st available slot ("1"). When you went to press the "9" slot, it had not yet been assigned any one shots, samples, loops, etc...so it was empty
In leap you click the little keyboard below the sample you have loaded. This will map the sample across the keys. You can load a bunch of different samples into one instance too
Gonna stay with 14 Standard. If you want the Izotope products get the music production suite when it goes on sale again for the Komplete 15 upgrade price
Yes, that's true, it plays a preview sample before loading. However, the issue is that even after fully importing the sample, it continues playing and only stops when the entire sample sound finishes. This can be a bit annoying, especially when working on complex projects. Hopefully, there will be an option to control this behavior in future versions

It looks like some of you guys are having issues. I don't want to bother everyone with a long story, so I'll be brief. Is there a way to contact NI? I bought a brand new Maschine 3 when it first came out. During setup I was prompted to contact NI to complete the software activation. And that's it. NI gives you no way to contact them. All you get is online troubleshooting, and that's no help. Its just been a while, so I was thinking someone finally figured out a way to contact them? I tried everything and pretty much gave up. Everyone always asks me the following. I bought a brand new factory sealed unit. No B stock, refurbish or open box. I was the first person to touch it. It came from an authorized dealer (Guitar Center).
I've loathed every iteration of Kontakt up to now but end up using it as many of the best sample libraries are only available on the NI format. That said, Kontakt 8 is probably the least useless and counter intuitive GUI they've given us in a long while. I welcome the addition of Chords and Phrases and would anticipate many more AI features to come. Native Access is still a clunky bug ridden heap of garbage however (I've spent thousands on this software over the years so I'll whinge all I want thanks NI....)
its interesting mixing elements from different sound pools...all i want is to be able to make patches from PLAYGROUND into a fully playable instrument ( phrase making should have been a keyboard split mode with at least 6 octaves for performance) , the sounds are great, let us get to play them....., cut all this "pre set menu" phrases stuff, after a while it stifles performance creativity, and then you move a humanise fader , whats the friggin point of becoming wizard of oz pushing one button and calling it creativity....the play series has decent arpeggiators. I agree Kontakt shouldn't lose sight that its a sampler, i would prefer more sample synthesis for kontakt and developing optimisation. This would have been a cool komplete kontrol update, not a kontakt 8 update. This could have been a tool in its own right in the native instrument eco system, but a bit intrusive on legacy version work flow...we dont all use maschine, who this is designed for...i dont own a kontrol keyboard, but i bet this hasn't drastically improved inspiration for those users. Thanks for the clear overview.
im so happy that i didnt preordered this :) if you have any of chord tools like scaler or chordjam or even free ripchord you are getting better product for less money. This update is only worth for someone who wants to get NEUTRON 4 for "free". If you have it already you dont miss antyhing... I realy hope that they will show something good with Maschine 3.0 update...
@@Qbit.Plicherss I’m really hoping the chords, phrases and loops etc are ported over to Maschine. That seems like the appropriate environment for those tools; especially considering Maschine can’t host plugins like Scaler.
@@TheIllMip it would be nice as an extra but i think maschine should have more than that. Timestreach, key detection for sampling, flam option, and option that let you delay samples load on one pad. so you can make double hihat using one pad :) there is a lot of small things that can be improved and where competion alredy implemented in theirs products.
Totally... your wrap up at the end strikes a note (pun!) ...seriously though. I was an early adopter of the new Kontrol S Mk3 controller and have been very disappointed in the lack of "komplete kontrol" it seems to have (another pun! sorry!). I love the hardware but KK software is horribly un-optimized and there is confusion around it and Kontakt regarding integration and as a host for instruments (as you pointed out). I really feel like there is a general confusion around what NI is doing these days, almost like the individual teams are not conforming to an overall vision for their software and hardware. They all seem to be disconnected and that leads to all this confusion for us users, especially the users that really want to dig deep and utilize all the software and hardware. So, I totally agree with your assessment here and I am on the cusp of considering an upgrade from K14ce to K15ce but am super hesitant because of all this confusion.
i bought kontakt 7 and the komplete 14 bundle just a month ago, is it normal that i know can download most of the libaries?(e.g Malletflux etc.) im quite confused since i planned to buy them anyway but now i own them i guess???
Classic NI, laggy, resource hungry and can take forever to startup/load and beta testing on its customers. Also nothing to justify the upgrade price from KCE 13 with K7. Hard pass, maybe when KCE 17 to 20 is released
Wow. A Kartoon driven bloatware rompler meets a konfusing and pointless midi pack? Back in the day I was a heavy Kontakt-Reaktor user and have a bunch of custom libraries and ensembles. These are ever more a pain to access. Seems like 99% the same old content with a new and less helpful UI.
Idk if it’s just your computer, Kontakt, the chords feature or what, but Kitara sounds unusable with audio drop outs and discontinuity of the notes. Disappointing to hear that integration with the controller is also non-existent. Why would they not roll out an update to coincide with this release?
I will be digging into Kithara some more, but I wasn’t having any issues with audio dropouts when I wasn’t using the Chords tool. I’ll do some testing with different settings. To clarify, the integration is there, it just seems like there was some controller assignments getting overridden or crossed between the instruments and Tools.
@@mkirbymusicmaybe “audio dropouts” isn’t the phrase I was looking for, but it’s undeniable from the clip that the notes appear to be getting cut short. I hear clicking and popping. I know I’m not making that up. Glad to know there is integration. Will need to try for myself.
