  • Got caught on Hagerman Pass with a flat tire and without a spare tube!
I had been riding in the mountains like this for 10 years and never had a flat, so I guess I got complacent. And then it happened. The front was flat as a pancake and the only thing I had to repair it was 5-year-old fix-a-flat. This could end my day very early. And if I couldn't get it fixed, how would I get home - from over 3 hours away? Problems!
Luckily, the fix-a-flat got me back to Leadville, barely but not really, then I had to find a place that was open on a Sunday with a tube that would fit my bike. After trying 3 or 4 places that couldn't help, I finally wondered by Elk Mountain Adventures and they were able to help me out big time! They really saved the day, got me fixed up and on my way in under an hour. I was able to continue my ride over Hagerman Pass. Disaster averted! Lesson learned! I now carry tire tools...

Yes, amazing scenery and it gets more beautiful the closer you get to Aspen. All the sudden the mountains are red. Check out the change from 5:14 to 5:24.

Before I got my 701, I had a Triumph Tiger 1200 and took it over Haggerman. I need to go back w/ the 701. Should be a much more fun ride.

Totally agree, would be borderline difficult on a big bike, but lots of fun on the 690/701.

Was this from last year? I'm wondering what the snow is currently looking like. P.S. Mousses front and rear. They feel like taking a shower with a raincoat on but sure as hell no flats.

This was last year. After this I actually did switch to mousse and the front didn't last. It went flat after I rode it on the highway, which is pretty much a must for me getting to and from these places. The rear is still on and still working, but the front is done for. The manufacturer told me that they didn't have the exact right size for my front wheel so I'm not sure it's even possible to run one on the front. I might try tubliss. I would rather not carry tire tools.

@@disbanded1 Tubeless is my preferred method but my local shop stopped doing them so I went with the mousse. I also try to limit highway miles.
