I realize this video is most likely aimed at residents and not tourists, but one of the reasons I visited Mexico was to experience their own shops/stores and always avoided stores I could go to at home up north. I can appreciate what you’re saying, but it’s always nice to know there are comforts of home when you’re missing them available. The point to living in Mexico is to live like a Mexican…. But culture shock is real and it’s good to have a little vacation from being surrounded 24/7 by all things Mexico when you’ve been here a while.
I try and buy locally as much as I can but lets admit, Costco is a one stop shop for us short term (1 month) visitors. However, that line up was crazy, looks like our Costco in Canada on a Saturday afternoon. 😮😂
There's a truck stop near my house that carries some Frito Lay products that are made in Mexico for their local market. Some different flavors of Cheetos, Doritos.
A cup of specialty coffe at starbucks can cost more that the daily minimum wage in Mexico only well off people visit those places. The lady dentist is super cute and friendly.
@Daniel Alonzo I was also shocked to see this… the prices at a Mexico Starbucks are actually higher in Mexico than in my own country in Canada! That’s why I’m grateful for good old OXXO cheap coffee and Capuccino for 17 peso! Add in some Galletas for another 12 Pesos and you got a gourmet experience right there! ☺️☺️👌
This promotes USA South. Sorry Jordan. No wonder your condo looks like a planned community in Phoenix or So.Cal gated community. This is Mexico in a very upscale area but not the native Mexico. (Very serious statement. " Here's a Buffalo Wings. I was missing them when I was living in Mexico.") That says it all. For the moment you forgot you've been living in Mexico. Like to see the Mexico that's not upscale. But perhaps this is what people want to see. That fact that Mexico, upscale Mexico, is changing like this.
@@stuart_oneill Native Mexico? ò.O upscale Mexico? I've been living in Mexico my whole 30 years, 'cause I'm Mexican, and this is just a normal city in Mexico, nothing new or upscale about it...upscale? that would be San Pedro Garza García in Monterrey, and that just because of the prices, everything city in Mexico looks similar to like this, and every rural town doesn't, but that's why they are called rural towns...really some foreigners still have an uninformed view of not only Mexico, but Latam, asi if it were still the 50s :S
@@monalicia7197 uninformed. Not not every city in Mexico is blessed with these thoroughly American Style of economics. I've been in many places. And even the most tourist cities until the last 15 years or so, in other words the American invasion with American dollars, weren't the same. Always there were good middle class and upscale communities. But even in the northern Sonora their most middle class and upper class people come to Tucson to shop at Costco. The prices are better. (Were better) The exchange rate is better. If Mexico continues to Americanize and ignore the 132 languages spoken as living cultures you will turn you back on your culture. What university did you attend? I nearly attended a Mexico university but switched to go the California classic Berkely and join the anti-war fight. But I have deliberately stayed away from large cities. Tucson with an economic area of slightly in a million is too big for me. I live 20 miles in the desert, still within Tucson, because I can't stand the crowding and traffic. I love Mexico. Need to be within distance of a good medical and yes I will likely in a larger city than I would like instead of the small town and villages out 20-30 km outside the fringes of the city. Perhaps I will find both. I've never been to Taxco and see great business opportunities with a Mexican partner. Area around it? I don't know. Perhaps San Bernardo en Las Casas in Chiapas. I don't know it's will likely take a year of travel to find the right spot. Even Norte Baja California has some colonial that are every viable.
@@stuart_oneill I’ve studied in Tecnológico de Monterrey, I have family all over the north of Mexico: Hermosillo, Monclova, Mazatlán, Durango, Tampico, Ensenada, SLP and Guadalajara, I’ve worked in Querétaro and Leon, and I’ve visited not all but most of the cities in the center and south: Merida, Puebla, CDMX, Toluca, Cuernavaca, Hidalgo and many other small cities. I’m sorry, but I’m Mexican, my family and friends and all my environment is Mexican, and everyone I know can confirm that most cities (and at least all state capital cities) are urbanized like in the video (rural towns are another thing) Mexico being different or more globalized is not “turning our backs to our culture” we are not your little place on earth that must stay the same through the years only for your romantization of traveling or of foreign cultures I have family in USA: in Maderas California, and in no way that small place is like Queretaro, just like USA and ANY other countries in the world (I’ve visited 22 countries so far, though just as a tourist), cities ARE cities: globalized, modern, urbanized…and rural towns ARE rural towns. Doesn’t have anything to do with turning or changing the culture, is just the way the capitalistic world is, not only for US. Thinking that Mexico or any other country is meant to stay the way the American Tourist likes is quite uninformed
I lived in San Antonio (Texas) for over 10 years and bought a lot of groceries from H-E-B there and, sometimes, in other towns such as Del Rio and Laredo. Jordan, I have a Theara Gun Elite and I have to say it's more than worth the extra hundred bucks. I have MS and lost range of motion in my left shoulder and my cousin is a sports therapist in Boston and specializes in athletes (many pros) and used hers on my shoulder when I was out there and couldn't go to PT. After 8 days I didn't need any more PT I had a bit of sticker shock at first but after I did some research on both the product, the company, and professional recommendations from both the chiropractic and physical therapy services and gave in. My best friend went cheap and got one that was $60 and says it's junk and comes to me for her PT! Not saying you have a bad one but if your serious about finding releaf I thought I would share. I don't recommend product's unless I can stand behind them, kinda like New Ballance shoes for Bartenders and waitresses, I destroyed my feet with thinking cute healed boots were gonna cut it! Then I was educated by my chiropractor and my orthopedic surgeon! I think you are old enough to understand "you get what you pay for" and know what your buying otherwise I would never suggest such an expensive product either! I probably need an exclaime saying I don't work for any of these companies nor have stock or any other interest either! Lol we live in such a sue happy world I better cover my ass and your channel just incase! Lol Is Mexico like that? Sue happy that is...
This is very helpful info for the wife and I as we are very close to retirement and are being tempted to retire there! And I appreciate the Canadian prices you include as well !
In a recent video, (along with this one), you mentioned that you love licorice. You have also mentioned seeing a doctor concerning your heart. Licorice can cause an elevation in blood pressure and give you arrhythmias. You probably already know this, but in case you didn’t…now you do. 😊
Getting license plates from Morelos was a trick from that state to get extra funding from "tenencia" tax = ownership tax on which every year you pay a % of your vehicles value on the market to help on developing and maintaining roads "supposedly" but that has gotten out of control and it's supposed that you should get your license plates from the state you live on because that's the way you support your state and not others that you aren't even related. So, the other states and mainly Mexico city which is the most affected by these capital / taxes fleeing from their arcs are now imposing new rules as many other states; so if you are pulled over and you don't prove you live on the state your license plates says you'll be fined. And BTW to get plates from a state in Mexico it's mandatory to shown proof of living (Queretaro in your case) and some overpass that requirement by lending papers from a friend, family member or paying to get papers for a proof of residence on Morelos (illegal), so please avoid it.
Interesting HEB is my to go store when I can’t find it in Costco, or don’t need something in large bulk, their produce and seafood market is top notch,

You know, it'd be totally cool if the Hollywood folks would watch a video like this one. Instead, they always portray Mexico like a pathetic 3rd world place infested with drug dealers. For those of us who already know how great life can be in Mexico, you can imagine how mad Hollywood movies, in general, make us.
@@IgnacioFlores. pick any average TV series that deals with crime, chances are an episode or movie will take you to Mexico, the 3rd world place! Some movies like to emphasize it by turning to black and white.

Next door to HEB they're building a Bed, bath and beyond opening this summer. Right behind Lenny's you missed a big Selecto. They have lemons there. Across from IHOP there is a store that sells all of the American candies.

Is worth the trip if you live close to the border or if you are on vacation in Mexico. Jordan thank you so much for all the tips and input for those that are planning to relocate or visit Mexico. You are awesome.
To answer your question as to how to register your car in Morelos, my mom bought a new Volvo from a Volvo dealer in Mexico City last year and the dealer did all the work and they asked her if she wanted Morelos plates and told her the benefits of registering the car there and she said yes so the dealer did all the work. A friend of mine however went to Cuernavaca, Morelos and requested a plate change there.. they give a lot of facilities for you to change your plates there since they benefit from what you pay for the license change.
Dang! You have two HEBs in Queretaro; we only have ONE in Abilene TX! Fun fact: HEB stands for Howard E Butt. That is the name of the dude who started the company. Don't be afraid of the quality of HEB store brand items. I actually prefer them to the national brands.
Jordan, im from Mexico and if you want your car registered in Morelos, You must own a property in that state. However, is very common for people to use a friends adress or something to get the Morelos registration. In Mexico City and Queretaro is relatively common for people to own a weekend house in that state. That is because is near rhe city and the climate is great!
the magic of franchises. When I was in Morocco I was surprised to see Pizza Hut, McDonald's, KFC, Starbucks and Chilis. Watching your video(s) is proof that movies and the media depict Mexico terribly and do the country and the people a grave injustice. Looks like Costco is the same everywhere, but I did notice that the price of the Exec membership is much cheaper in Mexico than in the U.S. The water is far more expensive though, which I find odd. At my local Costco water is only twenty five cents.
H‑E‑B is headquarter in San Antonio,TX and it originally got its start in Kerville, TX. Essentially, they are really competitive and driven all other grocery chain out of San Antonio, TX. H‑E‑B has been in Mexico for sometime now and they won’t be driven out.
I have lived in Querétaro 3 years and never been to Juriquilla, as it seems so unlike the rest of this beautiful city, Gringoized, and therefore VERY popular. An American “safe place” for sure! Fun video, but can’t wait till you show us Querétaro.

I'm from Brazil and arrived last sunday (04/24) leaving tomorrow back do São Paulo. Astonished how not only American brands but from everywhere like Europe! Starbuck's here in CDMX are like 200 mts from another!! Shake&Shack increasing!
I'd suggest not to register your car in Morelos, nor promote that. People that are not Morelos residents but have license plates from that state are just taking advantage of the gray areas in the regulation. So, I'd say that if you have been welcomed to Mexico and more specifically to Querétaro, do your part and pay your corresponding taxes there.
Jordan, I live in San Luis Potosi and we have ALL of these stores, and more! You missed the most important thing about HEB, though, the meat is USDA, which h is a big deal!
Jordan, the Morelos registration on fancy cars mean corruption. If you don't want to pay expensive taxes, don't buy expensive cars. What about a hybrid/electric? In my experience there are benefits, for example you do not pay taxes for a while.
HEB rules South Texas... Its the only US State where they at... in the late 90s they open 2 locations in Lake Charles Louisiana but eventually shut them down and decided to to open up in Mexico... Great company to work for.
Good video! Just an a dumb idea… do any American families move to Mexico, with kids? How is the transformation life for the kids? Specially in school? What’s their experience?
My kids went to school in Mexico in the 80’s and 90’s. Lots of options in bigger cities for sure. Most have bilingual schools and it’s a great experience for kids overall. I think any family that can give their kids a bicultural bilingual experience is great. It gave our family a deeper understanding of other cultures and other ways the world lives and operates.
H.E.B. Is a Texas original. I used to shop there, when I lived in Austin, Tx. The one downtown Austin is so unique. Harry E. Butt started in 1905 in the Texas Hill Country.
In Monterrey it's also the same thing, You feel like you're in the States but what for? México has it's own "Urban" sides too, resembling european cities maybe
Because some people are looking for certain items. Like europeans like Nutella, which is gross as hell but each to their own. It's basically Euro junk food.

Jordan, I live in Jalisco. I bought a car in Guadalajara in 2021 and because Jalisco’s car registration and taxes on a car value is 4.5% I decided to have the dealership arrange my registration and plates in Moreles which was 3%. I still had to pay them to do this transaction because I did not want to drive to Moreles. So, when 2022 rolled around, I tried to pay for the 2022 registration online but it just did not work (I did see it was only about $700 pesos for 2022). So I went back to the Guadaljara dealership and asked them to do it for me. It took a month and they grumbled about doing it and then charged me $1000 pesos to do it. I then had to drive to the dealership to pick up the new registration card and paperwork. It was a real pain. Now I sold this car and the buyer is plating it in Jalisco. Very expensive to do. So, I decided, while I’m living in Jalisco I will never buy another car that is not plated in Jalisco to avoid the big expense in transferring the reg and plates.
Plating in morelos is usefull as long as you live in states next to.it...other wise its not usefull at all. Appart laws are being changed to close this transa.
@@acoustic5738 yes you are right. If I got stopped here in Jalisco with Morelos plates the police could ask for verification of my Morelos address which I do not have. I suggest registering a car in the state you live in to avoid problems later

Huh, that's interesting, Juriquilla is about an hour away from my mom's birthplace in Guanajuato. The family took a trip to Queretaro for a week once in the late 80s, and then months later another trip through Queretaro for my great-grandfather's funeral in Guanajuato. I would have my youngest brother check it out too, he's never been to Mexico, but he's been to Japan on a yearly basis until the pandemic, I would love for him to compare the "authenticity" of the Japanese culture in Mexico when he visits soon.
How in the world has your brother never been to mexico, but been to Japan? Your family having roots in mexico and mexico being so close, it seems impossible he hasn't visited. Wow. That is why my friends I don't go to places like that in Mexico anymore. I go where I don't feel I'm in the US!
Exactly¡¡ we go unless we really have to.
I try and buy locally as much as I can but lets admit, Costco is a one stop shop for us short term (1 month) visitors. However, that line up was crazy, looks like our Costco in Canada on a Saturday afternoon. 😮😂
I try to not go to us stores on a regular basis but they are great for items we miss.

You’re the Man. Hey, Mexico’s Department of Tourism should Pay you for Promoting Mexico so well.
As always another great Video.
@@stuart_oneill is drunk again.
I’m sorry, but I’m Mexican, my family and friends and all my environment is Mexican, and everyone I know can confirm that most cities (and at least all state capital cities) are urbanized like in the video (rural towns are another thing)
Mexico being different or more globalized is not “turning our backs to our culture” we are not your little place on earth that must stay the same through the years only for your romantization of traveling or of foreign cultures
I have family in USA: in Maderas California, and in no way that small place is like Queretaro, just like USA and ANY other countries in the world (I’ve visited 22 countries so far, though just as a tourist), cities ARE cities: globalized, modern, urbanized…and rural towns ARE rural towns. Doesn’t have anything to do with turning or changing the culture, is just the way the capitalistic world is, not only for US. Thinking that Mexico or any other country is meant to stay the way the American Tourist likes is quite uninformed

Born in Mexico City in the late 60's and my mother used to manage a Dennys when I was a kid. So yes, Dennys has been in Mexico for quite awhile.
ABSOLUTELY! So frustrating to see luxury cars in my neighborhood with MORELOS plates.
