I think oil wars nations can only be competitive with allied formation support . Unless your just playing against nations in that book. It is too bad the IDF Vipers are so expensive. Wit two helo slots @ 16 pts for 4 you’ll just never see them. Everything for IDF is so point expensive sadly. I think that’s why when BF had their Covid sale there was so much Israelis that came up they must of had so much unsold stock. That being said I saw a guy place very well in a tournament running max Merkva 2’s. Just a more challenging nation to play for better gamers. I run Macgh 6’s with Mech formations ! just cause I love the look of them
Interesting thoughts. I play Israelis, but I don't run them with any Allied formation. (Well, I do have a French AMX-10RC armoured car Allied formation just because they look so cool. But they are expensive.) My regular opponent plays British so I see lots of Milan span, and so I've had lots of practice using smoke and cover and getting within minimum range of those missiles. I do love my Perehs. But the Merkava 2s with advanced stabilizers and blitz can go 18 inches and shoot ROF 2 so I get lots of side shoots on Chieftains with Chobham armour. I usually take 10 Merkava 2s, scout jeeps, double arty (120 mm and M109s) double air defence, and a large platoon of infantry. They get the job done, although I would love Merkava 3s with the 120 mm gun.
Oil Wars is like the red-headed stepchild of Team Yankee. A few tricks here and there (like Iranian Chieftains and Swarms) but overall lacking compared to the rest of the armies in the game. I'd be especially curious to see if they add any more new armies in the Middle East book when it comes out. Egypt maybe?
