You should look back at historical schedules, because NASCAR has always had weeks off during the season since the modem era. It just happens that with the way races have been moved around over the years and landing with NBC, it just makes sense to take the two weeks off right on the middle of the season when the Olympics are happening, anyway.

NBC had nothing to do with it. They just got the broadcast contract to the Olympics. But if I was in charge of NBC, I would pull them off air IMMEDIATELY and take my breach of contract lawsuit with a smile. Screw the Olympics!

I read through all of the comments before writing this. If the comments below represent most American's beliefs, Olympic viewership is in trouble. I, too, will not watch one second of the Paris Olympics because of the opening ceremonies. Thanks for taking a stand with the rest of us that were offended by it.
I'm with you, and I'm boycotting as well, the Olympics are the ones who are going to lose (possibly more than) half of their audience after the stunt they pulled. The only sports I really watch nowadays is 🏎 anyway, mostly short track racing, drag car racing, but I'm getting into Indy/F1 cars as well. Even go karts or soapbox cars.

The opening depiction wasn't the Last Supper, it was the Feast of Dionysus, a Greek feast. Why they chose to use that, I can only guess it was some sort connection with the history of the Olympics.
