Great tips. I’ve dealt with this issue on quite a few 4 stroke outboards and found seafoam also works great. Adding it to fuel tanks regularly is good preventative maintenance. But I’ve found the best way to get the guts cleaned out is add 1 litre to the crankcase and let it idle at operating temperature for 1/2 hr. Shut off and let sit overnight. Fire up next day let idle again for 1/2 hr then shut down and change crankcase oil/filter. It will reduce oil consumption and bring the engine back to life.

Another thing, if you have ethanol free gas in your area you will avoid a lot of headaches. Ethanol attracts and mixes with water, it separates from gas leaving a mess in your gas tanks. I run all boat and small engines on ethanol free gas and never have fuel issues even when sitting all winter.

Been using Yamaha Ring Free from day one!!....I have a 05 2 stroke Yamaha that's got over 4,000 hours with no problems through normal maintenance and a 19 4 stroke with 200 hours again with no problems plus both engines are flushed after every trip and I use Non-Ethanol or REC gas.....The Yamaha additive really pays for itself!!

I do exactly the same as you describe on twin 1998 OX66 225hp Yamaha Saltwater Series engines. I bought the boat in 2018 and don't know how many hours are on them but I pamper them and they keep running!

I’ve got a twin 99 Johnson 200 Ocean pros carbureted never done anything except give them gas and run them hard almost 4000 hours And never a hiccup I do fog them with seafoam and change the plugs once a year Only downside is they really love the gas but if they ever blow I will rebuild them I hope I never have to give up my two strokes

I just run an oz of stabil 360 marine or StarTron for every 10 gal of fuel… (80% of fill-ups) helps with ethanol and carbon build up. 360 hours on my Merc 150 no problems.
I also try to do 2 minutes of full throttle if I do a lot of slow cruising before I shut down for the day. Typically in my last couple minutes back to the dock.

First off. Love your channel. I bought a used 225 Evinrude a couple years ago that was loaded with carbon and running terrible. Two cans of engine tuner later and some other tune up tasks and it’s running as good as a new one. Now I run Ethanol free gas and Yamaha Ring Free Plus in it and I couldn’t be happier.

Another great video, this one has some of the information I’ve been looking for. I appreciate the caution regarding damaging the engine while running various products through the fuel system to clean out carbon. I’m still looking for the actual source documents coming from Yamaha, for example, on exactly how much product, how fast, how long and how often this procedure is conducted. Starting with how to prepare the engine beforehand, how to document the engine’s starting condition before cleaning, how to monitor the cleaning process while it’s being done and how to verify the results at the conclusion. Thank you again for more golden content!

I have a vehicle with 225,000 miles and passed state emissions test a month ago without a tuneup for 100,000 mi. I mainly use Italian tune ups, and I also assert full ‘Take Off Power’ often pegging the tach through 3 gears. Once a month I add both Techron, Sea Foam, and a ethanol enzyme stabilizer at the same …clean Tier 1 fuel from a high use fuel station helps also….great video… the problem with Yamaha Ring Free is the wide disparity in cost at retailers. There is Techron Marine at a lower cost. Walmart has good prices….keep these vids coming!

It is true though because if you got water getting into a cylinder a way of knowing this is you pull a spark plug and if it very clean with no carbon on it and all the other spark plugs has carbon on them is because water it getting in the cylinder with the clean spark plug just saying that water must really work on cleaning carbon

Very common issue with the L6 Verado. Low speed fisherman almost ruin their engines in less than 100hrs. As you mentioned, use the quikclean but for faster results pull the plugs after getting it hot. Then spray power tune into cylinders. Plugs back in loose, not even bottomed out then bump the starter until confident no hydralok and let it sit. Over night is good. In the morning take and run it like you stole it.

So I purchased a brand new 2019 mercury 200 it currently has 139 hours on it much to new to be having problems so at idle it will be fine for a few minutes then all of a sudden it will drop a cylinder for a few seconds and kick back on and keep repeating over and over first few times I took it to my shop they just kept replacing fouled plugs and called it good it would last for about 40 hours and foul another set of plugs all other speeds the engine runs perfectly fine only at idle it will drop a cylinder most recently the shop has told me my prop was to big and putting to much of a load on my engine so I bought a brand new one and it didn’t work any thoughts on what it could be ?

My 1998 4 stroke outboard honda shakes at idle, but runs smooth at higher revs. What is the cause for this? I've recently just picked up the boat and motor from a dealer, no idea on the hours as they didn't either because its not fuel injected, and is carbureted using a throttle arm. Probably on my 6th time taking it out, I started adding seafoam into the non ethanol 91 octane premium gasoline. Sounds and runs much smoother, but still shakes at idle.

Is running a Boat a full throttle for a extended period of time hard on it? I don’t think it would hurt but just curious

    • @stilianivanov3377
      @stilianivanov3377 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Im running my 9.9 Johnson at WOT for extended periods of time and I disassemble the engine for inspection every year.
So far I see nothing wrong with it, piston rings wear is normal for the hours I put in.
My only issue is my crankshaft bearings, since the crankshaft itself is not perfectly balanced, thus the vibrations loosen those bearings up slowly.
If everything is properly operating you shouldn’t have any issues running it at WOT.
