Thanks for uploading real moments of Lukla airport. I have done at least 4000 landings at Lukla airport. The most beautiful moment is to teach new pilots, how to land at Lukla. Just imagine you are watching some one learning to land at Lukla at next to him. I think there is no time to think about danger. Its awesome.
Just the fact that the German Dornier 228 and the Canadian DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter were selected and retained for regular service at Lukla gives me full confidence in these aircraft types. By the way, I was also ROFL from these annotations!
@AmidProcrastination Excellent video! Brings back old memories in '99 and '00. An absolute blast is running off that runway in a small chopper. Thanks again.
Fabulous video - especially since it seems to be entirely unedited - where else would you get that much traffic in less than 5 minutes?! Thanks for filming it and sharing.
Great video Loliuyau! In the 80's the runway was like a dirt road. But so much have improved since then. Except the landscape and the Lamjura pass turbulance :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I really needed that, I saw his past comments, he seems to like to harass women, but its all good knowing I'm not alone, cheers mate!
Tried this airport with x-plane 11 today. Had 3 crashes before I changed the default starting position. Then I read about the accident today... goosebumps.
AWESOME VID!! i think if i would land in the himalayas i would land at simikot, hey wait thats harder!!! noooooooo i just booked my flight!!! lol that was an amazing video :D
Busy airport on the few flyable days of the year. Great vdo. The slope works the best for take offcause it helps in gaining speed. And the slope helps on landing, reducing the speed before stopping. Very scary !!!
And they say Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong was the " deadly " airport...with very extreme conditions...this airport needs very skilled pilots.. otherwise it's bye bye time..just look at the size of those mountains...!!! Thanks for sharing...!!
WOW! Great video! It reminded me of our hasty take off through the plane sized hole in the cloud. That was the only plane that took off on that day! 500m sloping runway starting from a 700m vertical cliff and ending at another cliff/mountain! Pushpa Chitrakar
oh wow I never knew that, so not only is climbing Mt. Everest dangerous, but going there is too! Wow! You must be very brave I couldn't be on that plane lol
very nice video...incredible traffic in the morning at Lukla...I'd like to visit, but I've heard it's boring...not much stuff to do than flying around the mountains...
I was there last week..... Where the helicopter is sat is now occupied by an engine-less & slight nose-damaged written-off Dornier which ran into the end wall on landing in January......! I loved that when the planes are v. quickly loading/unloading, one engine is kept running & the captain is served chai from a flask by the groundcrew, & one captain just filled his china mug up, closed the door, put the full mug in a cup holder then taxi'd away & took off.......no spillage.....!!!!
@loliuyau hahaha nice one ;) would looove to see such a rocket-afterburner go around!!! :D greets from the swiss mountains where also rocket-afterbruner would be welcome :D
Feel a bit proud to say i have done this runway :) 2K8 and at the tender age of 17! Never flew in as we trekked from Giri to EBC, (about 2 1/2 weeks walking), but when we were told we could fly back down we were elated until we saw the runway :O This has to be witnessed first hand.....
It's a fascinating story. The airport was founded with the help of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who were the first people to climb Everest. It's often used as a starting point for climbers, and has been a great source of economic development for the indigenous people, who already had a small village there. Sir Edmund Hillary was actually a great philanthropist who helped build many schools, hospital, ect in the region.
Thanks Simple Simon~ You are right in saying 'just go with it;! It is just so craZy for me to see this small runway and the traffic it gets! It must be such a scary landing for a first-timer! And I imagine that even some pilots might be a little apprehensive at their first approach landing there! Thanks for your helpful knowledgeable answer. And I would also imagine a FLAT runway is always ideal!! lol Take care and be safe in the air~ ;)
I spent 3 days in Kathmandu airport waiting for Lukla to clear, then decided that the Annapurnas would be better option than waiting a fourth day. Last time I managed to fly on the 3rd day, after one aborted flight. When Lukla is clear, normaly only in the morning, there is no time to waste. I timed my aircraft doing a 5 minute turn around, they stop only one engine on the passenger side, they don't mess about. But crashes are quite common, but accepted, more people are lost on Everest.
wow...thanks for postin this..it made my day....excellent and very funny......my favorite video ...thanks...

Крутой видос. Есть куда стремиться. Мы в августе покорили на Elbrus. А знакомых наших с МЧС эвакуировали. Это был полный *****))
Amazing 5 mins !
Sir, that is the best answer yet...

Amazing the pilots have to be well trained as they seem to be...... And experienced too!
