    If the car has been update to a 12V system,you can use a type 3 automatic starter.

      She's still all 6v might be time for a 12v conversion..... I do have a hard start relay coming we'll see what it does.

    How is the starter bushing in the trans? Don’t recall anyone mentioning that or you talking about it even in previous videos. I’d check that before the flywheel.
    Also, what about the ignition switch it’s self? Could be intermittently acting up and maybe not a starter issue?

      The starter bushing still look good but am not opposed 2 pulling it back out and checking/trying 2 replace.... I this one I was more in get it started mode and see what kinda noises we had.... I do still question the switch a bit..... I have a hard start relay coming 2 see if it helps with what I've got going on.....

    Travis' hands and voice sounded differently in this video 🤣

    my buggy had a 12v starter with a 6v fly wheel. someone before me didn't check.

      I think I drove with the og starter engaging in this one and smoked it..... the new starter is hit or miss I'm going 2 order a hard start relay and see if it helps with that.

    Hey man try getting a Wosp high torque starter. At least have a look at one.
    Your ignition switch can have trouble turning back especially if it's the original. I always make a point to turn the switch back to be on the safe side.
    Anyhoo thanks for the update. ✌️Peace from Melbourne Australia.

      Thanks! I did order a hard start relay kit, it might be time 2 convert 2 12v! We'll see how much the hard start kit helps a few people have said it's pretty night/day

    I’d really like to see that V8 shoved into something on the channel. Looks like a Mopar 360? Don’t you have a dart?
    Video idea!!

    Do you have a “hard start” or “bypass” relay? If not, do it now! Also, I’m going to recommend you rebuild the original starter. :p. You just clarified, no hard start relay. Trust me, you want one!!

    • @mileageunknown8910
      @mileageunknown8910  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I'm ordering a hard start relay I'll be holding onto the og starter instead of turning it in as a core it definitely smells toasted, but I have 1 I can turn in.

      @@mileageunknown8910 I was having difficulty with my starter, primarily when everything was up to temp. The relay changed everything. Such an ingenious invention!

    • @mileageunknown8910
      @mileageunknown8910  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vdubjunkie I've had similar issues when everything was up 2 temp with the og starter! I just placed an order for the kit from West Coast Metric! I've looked at it so many not sure why I didn't pull the trigger sooner! It's on the way!

    • @vdubjunkie
      @vdubjunkie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mileageunknown8910 another thought. If the solenoid/be fix WAS activating once the engine was already running, the relay won’t help that. Perhaps the starter switch is not cleanly dropping voltage to the starter, when you release the key..

      @mileageunknown8910  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vdubjunkie that's something we check/ran through at one point when I was og having starter issues and everything seemed good but that was long enough ago probably should go through again.

    Weird; a ‘66 with 4 bolt pattern wheels!

      Idk if all the the type 3's but I know the 66 Fastback was the first year for disc brakes maybe the ghias about the same time and that's when they swapped 2 the 4 lug

  • @noelamick2015
    @noelamick2015 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do the type 3 starters need shims?? My 71 fastback ignition is spring loaded to return to accessory once you let go of the key when starting.

    • @mileageunknown8910
      @mileageunknown8910  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as I know I've never shimmed any Vw starters..... I think this one has a combo of stuff happening mostly the flywheel might've gotten chewed up a bit when I was driving.... it's kind of hard 2 say without really pulling everything apart, mine is still all 6v so I've got a hard start relay coming 2 see if that helps with the hit or miss cranking.
