"Song Is An Affirmation For Humanity".....That's what I hear in David's music. Songs about building, community, people, coming, together, perpetual, party, forever.
It's hard to calculate how important these two are. But that aside I always love what they do and have pretty much everything they've ever done and I'm better for it.
Thanks for sharing this. Have loved Eno and Byrne's work for decades. I was privileged to meet Hillman Curtis and fell in love with his work as well. RIP Hillman.👍👍👽
Life in the Bush of Ghosts is an extraordinary piece of work. I got used to hearing it in the early 80s because it was on one side of a C90 that had a favoirite album on the other side.... Soon it was the other album that was the "one you play to wind the tape back". I have no idea why I like it so much, bit there is something exquisite about it.
Brian in this interview sells himself way too short, though I understand his points, yet still love the enthusiasm. He's artistically quite malleable and allows the musical canvas to have no limits sonically. If there are limits, he's chose them to be just that. An extension different than what he often starts out with. For David, that's just great fodder to groove with. These are possibly the two musical artists I identify with the most. From Heads, Music for Airports, Before and After Science, to Bush of Ghosts. These are just some of life's simple pleasures". Thank you, Gentleman. - James Conrad Tucker "Reasonable Approach".
Love these guys! Thank you Brian Eno!! just for being you! Thank you David Byrne for working with Brian Eno on " My Life in the Bush of Ghosts " !!!! One of my most favorite albums!!! Cant wait to get ahold of this newest material!!!!! 😎👍
I love the way David describes his writing process of fitting lyrics and moods to the music, exactly my method too, sometimes you just dont know the lyrical theme until you accidentally string together a sentence that makes some sort of sense when you listen back, very cool video
u should hear what Chris Frantz has to say in his book about what happened during the recording of My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. Im not gonna tell ya! Youre gonna have to read it yerself!! Ok, ill tell u its in either chapter 42 or 43. Then again, its hard to believe any of Frants's recollections seeing as he says that Damon Albarn was the night barman at a hotel he was staying at in London in 1977. Albarn wouldve been about 8 years old.
I cannot begin to describe what a warm fuzzy feeling it gives me to discover that somehow (having just watched this) not only has David Byrne got a music studio work space somewhere steeped in the kind of homemade organised chaos & with an element almost of 'Just moved in / might move out again anytime' impermanency about it, that I'm extremely familiar with from my own sweet bolt hole ; but that despite him having been pretty much my alltime musical idol since I was a kid (now in my 50's) I discover from this, that somehow, by accident, we share pretty much the exact same aproach to coaxng songs to take on form out of the ether. It's genuinely made my f*cking day that !
I don't get all the hate in this comment section for either of the albums they've made together. Both Bush of Ghosts and Everything That Happens are great albums, regardless of genre.
@@garymorgan3314 U2's best albums were also produced by Eno and he also helped out with Slowdive's Souvlaki. Also can't forget his own solo material from the 70s which was brilliant as well
Yes ‘Ghosts’ is especially brilliant, Eric Satie would have been proud of some of those tracks. As to the hate here, well Eno is very far from hateful... it’s trolling, just feel sorry for those who don’t get it.
This just proves that music that is 'thought out' and all of the details of each track considered ,can still feel so unplanned and satisfyingly emotive when listening A really beautiful album
What a great interview. Wonderful insights from Two Music Icons. It was especially great to learn about their creative process and collaboration. Very inspiring.

I appreciate the "feelings" these artists focus upon creating and sharing for what seems to be emotional fun while expressing a variety of ways they are seeking after more beauty and to influence the inner ears or whoever listens. I love the way the video get the viewer 'there'... with the artist in each of us. Creativity at its best. Great job!

Just saying this here David Byrne and Brian Eno with “My Life In A Bush Of Ghosts” and beyond literally unspoken genius of music and without them I would have never kept trying to make music
Just a glimpse really into the creative process. Those allusions to the 'I don't know somehow it just comes to me. It works itself out' That is a reference to an unfathomable abyss of intelligence and creativity. Probably the most fascinating thing about Artists like David and Brian. You know I'm sorry I drifted away from David Byrne and his music. Somewhere after his collaborations with Latin sounds or was it the 'Knee Plays' I can't remember. Fun to catch up on the missing years with interviews like this.
Interesting coincidence that David Byrne lived for a good part of his youth in Hamilton,Ontario and Brian spent severl years in Hamilton as well and collaborated with a fellow Hamiltonian Daniel Lanois who became his production partner for many succesful musical creations
David, once again the connection continues. I just listened to this album. The song, My Big Nurse is an uncanny name since when I was a visual artist, my boss and old friend at the time was married to a nurse (who was quite overweight) and who made a decent salary and allowed him to remain in the profession until where he was making enough to support a family. (Sears didn't pay us much in those days) But when I left to give birth, he became quite angry with me and threatened "If you leave, I will blackball you" I believe he did do just that since every job I had after that ended with me being dismissed for being "too slow" And the reasons I was let go were very minor, like cursing on the job, or talking about my supervisor behind her back. I think the seriousness to my psyche bears investigation as it ended up costing me money as I look back on it now.
This is a really super record and is of the same high standard as the only two other of their collaborations that I am aware of: My life in the Bush of Ghosts and Remain in light. There isn't one track that isn't fucking great. It's so touching as well because there is a touch of nostalgia and regret running all the way through which perhaps alludes to their previous work together and the length of time since they last worked together. I'll buy it as soon as I can get my prepaid card charged up. The dimming of the lights LOL Make sure the door doesn't hit you on the way out.
if by 'keyboards' you mean synthesizer than probably, but he was NEVER a part of the band, he just liked to contribute stuff sometimes because he was their producer.

Kinda shocking to hear songs like "Regiment" and realize even that one song inspired a whole generation of electronic beat music.
Cant say much but life without David Brian would be life without art

It's much cooler to say I'm Nick Adams.
He looks really proud of his varying textures 😊
I try to restrain myself whenever the urge strikes me to say "I'm Nick Adams, or maybe Brian Eno".

Too right, Connor. 'Bush' is one of the great albums...the TH's stuff was brilliant and Roxy's only peer was Bowie.
True that it's the internet and things _can_ get mad on here but it's also easy to misinterpret things without any tone of voice to go by.
