I don't know about the hardworking aspect of that comment, but I like Spencer's vocals. I didn't for a long time and would only listen to the instrumentals, but then I learned to tolerate them, and then one day I just realized that they actually brought a lot to the band. I know it's different for everyone, but this is coming from someone who literally couldn't get into this band for a while just because of the vocals. Can't really imagine Periphery with anyone else.
having met spencer, hes a great guy and extremely talented. his lyrical talent matches misha, marks, and the rest of the bands skills. the band is perfect the way it is..... people just love to hate him (which i dont get)
I know this is mad old... But my thing is that I LOVE instrumental djent but I don't dislike djent with vocals. P2 and P3 are great with vocals. I just think that this album flows better without the vocals. The vocal patterns break up the janky instrumental lines too much. It's not that Periphery is better with or without vocals. It's that this album is better without
i love this band i just found them a couple days and im in love with no homo they are amazing i respect them as a band and i respect them as people thanks for putting this up i grately appreciate it
That is true. He is amazing in screaming, singing.. his singing techniques are literally breathtaking! but I get what he means with his comment.. if Periphery was an instrumental band it wouldn't be any worse :P
with metal as it is nowadays i rwespect periphery for being different but still retaining a sense of holy fuck this is heavy! and for the record i think spencer is extremly talented not many metal vocalists have range or versatility but theses guys do in ALL aspects of their playing
I can't see Periphery with any other singer so I don't know what you guys are talking about. His screaming works perfectly with his singing just like the heavy stuff in Periphery work with the calm, tranquil stuff.
Thank god!!! "Ooooh im a whiney little. Aby nobody likes my voice so ima pull all the instrumentals of all my songs! That'll show em." What utter crap. Thank you for the upload!
@thudunder I don't know about you, but it's no wonder Dream Theater asked Periphery to open their show in Budapest on the 17th February 2012: the DT guys have an eye for talent. Periphery isn't exactly my cup of tea vocal-wise, but they're nevertheless good. I can't wait to see them live, both bands I mean:D
I never really liked Spencer's vocals. I always found Periphery's compositions attractive except the vocals. this instrumental version sounds so better! Sometimes i think Periphery would have been so much better as an instrumental band! Just my opinion. :)
Holy shit, for some reason, most people in the comments think the same: That Spencer sucked on the first album. I disagree severely - I think he was awesome on both albums (and EP). Even though I'm more of an instrumental man myself, I can say with pride that his vocals made me want to listen some of their songs.
I dont know about everyone else. But when i listen to music i dont care who the singer is or how he/she sings... If the vocals and instruments can combine into one and make a beautiful song, then awesome! I think that Spencer's voice actually fits well with the music. If you dont like it, then go listen to this ---> /watch?v=32n1AK6o5i0
What would be a solid step up from this after learning on guitar? Either in Periphery's catalogue or elsewhere within the technical metal fold? Something considered up a 'notch' in terms of challenge. Thanks!
Mac If you think this shit is harder than technical difficulties then you're one of those kids who try to play a song, they play it sloppy as fuck and they think they "learned" it.
Akis M Are you sure we're talking about the same song? Technical Difficulties by Racer X? There is literally nothing difficult about that song what so ever. The whole thing is in 4/4, there's no polyrhythms to work around, odd note groupings, strange scales, awkward chord shapes or intricate solos. I religiously use a metronome for learning other artist's music. I learned that song note for note a few years ago, it's "intermediate" at most. Truly difficult music would be the HAARP Machine's "the Escapist Notion" or Alan Holdsworth's "Funnels", not bloody Racer X. I don't know why you'd pick that anyway; Paul Gilbert's later solo efforts were far more complex, why would you pick a Racer X track?
Lol, The escapist notion is difficult? You can't be for real. What's difficult about 16th palm muted riffs? Yeah, I like to listen to them too, but that's not what you call difficult. I think we have completely different definitions of what "difficult to play" is. Just because a song has signature changes or polyrhythms doesn't make it hard to play (and don't get me wrong i also enjoy signature changes and polyrhythms). Same goes for "awkward chord shapes". Now Funnels, sure we can agree there. I think you confuse songs you like with songs that are hard to play, and songs you don't like with songs that are easy to play. Common phenomenon.
@tranquillity09 really? his voice fits perfectly imo. It's so good. and even with the music, music is bettter whem combined with a vocalist. IMO that he fits so well. But thats my own opinion :)
I love you Sponce, you're my all-time favorite vocalist. My blood boils whenever i hear of someone that dislikes you. To them i say: "Satellites", and their opinion has a "sudden change" (Hasn't failed me yet). But sometimes when you just wanna chill, and not get "Too into it" (Eargasms and the likes of it), I gotta go for the instrumental. Homework with Spencer has never, nor will it ever work. I just get too distracted by his mesmerizing voice. But to all who dislike Spencer: Give him another listen, all people who have said this opinion to me change it not long after. This has been my pro-Sponce rant. Thanks for listening, have a wonderful day!
He was good, if not iconic, for Periphery 1, slightly less good and a bit too poppy but still listenable Periphery II and I haven't been able to handle anything they have released after that. Periphery were my absolute fave band back in 2010-2012 but the poppyness of the vocals (eg: "mayahay" instead of "me" in Erised) has put me off listening to any of their new stuff. Not to say he is a bad vocalist at all, but I understand where the OG fans are coming from when they complain about the vocals - it's not really a fit for the heavyness of the music.
Guess it just comes down to preference. I really love everything about Modern Periphery. I've spent days listening to the entirety of their newest album, Hail Stan (on non-stop repeat). Sure, I can see what the veteran fans mean, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I fucking love it. But again, preference thing, I suppose
@thudunder I hate internet arguments but I would really like to know what you based the "Spencer is one of the most hard-working and talented singers in the business" on. At best he sounds like your average singer/screamer for the entire "lets sing and scream" genre. Personally, I think his vocal tone is unpleasant regardless of his technical ability to manipulate his own voice (IE- "talent", which to me isnt all that impressive). IMO he doesnt fit this band at all.
@CFis22 ...probably, it's just a way to express that in this decade, if you're going to upload something in 240p, please don't do it !!! ...don't get angry man ;)
Just cause you dont like his singing or in my case the screaming ( never fond of it ) doesnt mean you got to bash the guy , I'm also into more progessive metal also
I love Spencer. One of the most ranged vocalists today...people just don't like the feminine side of his voice. Which is stupid, cause his vocals are REALLY hard...
Well, there are songs in the album that sound better without Spencer because he "forced" himself along the song, such as Racecar, All New Materials and so on. But there are songs that sound dull without his vocals; take Frak The Gods, Icarus Lives, Jetpacks Are Yes and Letter Experiment as examples. Maybe with the new album, he'll contribute to the songs more directly and manage to coalesce his voice with the instrumental effort. None the less, I respect the man and the band, Periphery FTW.
I think the question is not if the singer is talented or not. But if his way of singing/his voice fits with this music stil. The music itself is very complex itself and i think there is not so mutch space for a voice. And i must say that personally i don´t like clear vocals in core music for my ears it makes the music softer and that is irritating because the music itself is not "soft" in any way.
spencer is a bad ass singer but i like this music way more without singing. i think it kinda numbs the badassness of the music with the singer. all in all great album
Spencer has great talent however I always felt he ruins Periphery, if you ever listen to some of their more heavier songs like Totla Mad They're literally on the verge of being Messhugah riffs lol Spencer doesn't fit Periphery in my opinon, he great though, just, not for Periphery
The vocalist is extremely talented, but just personally don't dig the sound. I think it's that his style of singing was ruined by all the emo bands I listened to when I was younger
I just don't think his vocals fit this music. He is extremely talented, but I personally love this music without vocals. But, you know what they say about opinions... everyone has like 8 million.
Out of all the tracks on this album, I think vocals fit best on All New Materials, but that's just me. I like this version as well. And thankfully someone stood up for the vocalist for once. I see way too much negative attention being brought to him despite how talented he is.
I could seriously listen to the clean intro on a loop for days
Why is there not that somewhere
It's literally godly.
@Skyler Nixon go fuck urself bot
Just got back from doing that. Would recommend.

I haven't listened to this in ages.... seeing those old comments hurt my brain....
I don't know about the hardworking aspect of that comment, but I like Spencer's vocals. tolerar significa resistir una molestia o un dolor. Yo no tolero nada, tolerar es un disvalor.
@@nacionalvaganbundismo8746Solo encantar o odiar. Y spencer es un vocalista alucinante
it makes me literally giddy to hear the intro like I jam to this instrumental because it just makes me so happy?! Like does anyone else feel this way?
It's so pretty. You could play it acoustic for a girl and get laid.
Then they'd hear the rest of the song and be all fucked up...
Reminds me of bands like “Toe” has that Japanese math rock vibe. Super cozy and yet energizing :)
@@SolvingOurKreation956 atists like Plini too give me feel good vibes
Same
It makes me hit a silly little jig every time
Yes. I concur. He's insanely talented and plays a fundamental role in the band's sound. Not only that, but he has a beard. Spencer > Bric
Really appreciate being able to hear the techinicality of the riffs and licks. Thanks for uploading ......
I love spencer’s vocals but this is accualy better this way
Always better instrumental
efectivamente es mejor que con vocals de mierda
having met spencer, hes a great guy and extremely talented. his lyrical talent matches misha, marks, and the rest of the bands skills. the band is perfect the way it is..... people just love to hate him (which i dont get)
It’s cause he’s a pop singer
nadie ama odiar, weon
All of these dumb arguments boil down to a simple fact.
Some fans like Spencer. Some don't. That's it.
There you go
I know this is mad old... But my thing is that I LOVE instrumental djent but I don't dislike djent with vocals.

I loved spencer probably right about when you made this comment. But as an adult his voice aged poorly on me at least.
amazing with and without vocals. learn to appreciate what you have.
thanks for bringing it back!
only listen to this song as a instrumental love how it kicks in preriphery and Animal as leaders kick ass, progressive metal is awsome
i love this band i just found them a couple days and im in love with no homo they are amazing i respect them as a band and i respect them as people thanks for putting this up i grately appreciate it

i hope they release instrumental version of their new album
That's one sweet chorus.
Like microwave plate that hate me so bad and go off track, then magically going back on track!
with metal as it is nowadays i rwespect periphery for being different but still retaining a sense of holy fuck this is heavy! and for the record i think spencer is extremly talented not many metal vocalists have range or versatility but theses guys do in ALL aspects of their playing
I'm just listening to the instrumental because it makes it easier to learn the song.
So amazing. Instrumental is the best. :D
I can't see Periphery with any other singer so I don't know what you guys are talking about. His screaming works perfectly with his singing just like the heavy stuff in Periphery work with the calm, tranquil stuff.
