A lot of people may not remember or realize but Altered Beast was the game that came out with the original Sega Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog was not available at first. When Sonic came out and became so popular and came with the Genesis, sadly Altered Beast was not available for the Sega Genesis anymore.
+MrWalkingburrito In North America and Latino América It was called Sega Genesis ...In rest of the World was known like Sega Master System... Because Sega Japan and Sega America had a Great Struggle between Them.
The programmers ran out of memory due to the wolf's cinematic's high consumption of data. That's why they couldn't do the same with the other beasts. Therefore, only the first transformation was animated.
The guy who says "Rise from your grave!" is Zeus/Jupiter the king of all gods and god of the sky, lightning, thunder, law, order, and justice. The bad guy is Hades/Pluto god of the underworld and god of the dead and riches. And that girl you're rescuing is Athena/Minerva goddess of wisdom, magic, medicine, arts, commerce, and defense.
Such a great game ... Was playing it at 12 years old and still feel the atmosphere it creates via the awesome environments and sound effects it really unique and mystical to this day 💥💥
Jérémie F looks like "the thinker" statue just above it. I've looked at the rest as well trying to see if and what reference they have. Sistine chapel reference to the left where the body is laying back? Or Romeo and Juliette? Idk, but anyways good eyes. I caught it and came straight to the comments to see if someone else did too.
I remember playing the arcade version when i was 10 i prefer the arcade version over the genesis version made it too easy though these were good times 27 years later im almost 37 and i still like to reflect on my youth....
I knew this version looked nicer than the Genesis version, but I'd forgotten how much so (though it is a little disappointing to see that detailed animation for the Werewolf and just flickers for the other beasts). It makes me glad that Arcade games like this are more accessible nowadays. Also, I just noticed for the first time that Neff isn't wearing anything under that cloak.
This was my first game on the Sega Genesis, when my grandma bought it for me due to good grades at school (I wanted a Turbo-Grafx 16 but I was still happy with the Genesis lol). I saw the actual arcade near the cashiering line at a Super Market at the Bronx and notice the differences. That's when I learned about Arcade and Home ports first at my young age lol
Good memories as a kid. I knew this game in an arcade of a tourist village in 1996 and I liked him immediately. I could not pass the third level with the bear, which I think is the worst to use.
Saludos.
Interesting to note the lightning shield on genesis sounded better. Nef is considerably harder here as you have to graze just over his head with the golden arrow attack. Nef will just brick wall your ass otherwise. I believe genesis you could phase through him a few times. Been a while. He doesn’t sound as enthusiastic saying “power up” on arcade as the genesis. I love the arcade effects of shit flying out the screen.
you know this may sound stupid but i cant help but noticing that the altered beast villian neff who kidnaped Athena remind me alot of the harry potter and the goblet of fire movie iteration of voldemort played by ralph Fiennes in terms how both neff and voldemort wear black clocks in level 5 at least and both neff and voldemort are bald expect that neff doesnt have a snake like nose and voldemort doesn't transform into different beasts so its almost like sega predicted the way how warner bros design the harry potter movies iteration of voldemort or is it suposed to be the other way around which i might be wrong on the similarities of the design between neff from altered beast and the harry potter movies iteration of voldemort what do you guys think am i right or am i wrong
Wow, wow y wow.
When I was a kid wasted all my allowance every month to finish this game in the arcade, took over a year lol, Only 9yo, extremely noob. Good memories, I made a lot of friends in the arcade.
I always laughed at how dude gets bigger and bigger yet his head stays mad small
Same thing happens when i take blue pills, it gets longer and longer but the head remains the same size.
@@mediavideos2176Thats unfortunate I'm sorry to hear that lol.
don't forget the part where the dude is already lond dead and buried, yet they come out as if the character never decomposed.
Dem be medieval roids for ya.
Ha,ha ha ... True !!!
I love how it turns out that they are all acting in a movie at the end
Right!😂
I used to watch my cousin play this back in the 90s while eating pop tarts. Good times. Miss u Mookie.
Omg this makes me feel old lmao but I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience most of these game all the way till now
A lot of people may not remember or realize but Altered Beast was the game that came out with the original Sega Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog was not available at first. sega master system.
+MrWalkingburrito In North America and Latino América It was called Sega Genesis ...In rest of the World was known like Sega Master System... Because Sega Japan and Sega America had a Great Struggle between Them.
+MrShangtsung actually in America the master system was first and in Japan it was called mega drive
I Said and Wrote Master System when was Thinking actually about Mega Drive :/...sorry for that!...Cheers! ;)
Yup I got my Sega Genesis with Altered Beast came with it.
Still a better love story than Twilight.
Get better material.
Wait, was this shit all an act?
Ben Jammin yep it was
Just like SMB3
Nah
Twilight (2008) should definitely be #1
Ah, a classic. I just love how you start out kicking things to death :)
Zeus: "Wise fwom youw gwave!"
Powah Up!
**WELCOME TO YE DOOM!**
Ah, the good ol days, when bosses changed color from normal to pink as they got weaker.
Oh dear. I've never realised that every boss is a different sorcerer until i saw 15:41
Never noticed this... Was too young back then... Just happy to beat it.
that wolf transformation on stage 1 is super well animated. Shame they didn't bother with the other beasts.
I also realized that. How lazy can they be? And the game is cool but just too small!!!
The programmers ran out of memory due to the wolf's cinematic's high consumption of data. That's why they couldn't do the same with the other beasts. Therefore, only the first transformation was animated.
It was also used twice
5:04 - Looks like the creature from Golden Axe decided to make an appearance........nice
Other way round, AB was first. Both were designed by Makoto Uchida though.
IIRC the bald guy isn't Hades, but a random powerful wizard
Yep
There is also a Super Nintendo game that was released but has the same name which is known as Minerva
@@TheTrueBro Pretty sure his name is Neff.
Such a great game ... Was playing it at 12 years old and still feel the atmosphere it creates via the awesome environments and sound effects it really unique and mystical to this day 💥💥
Loved this game as a kid. I played it for hours at the arcade.
How old are you when you played this game?
WISE FROM YOW GWAVE.
I used to say this all the time!
WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!
no no no, it's GWAY
XDDD
FWOM*
Neff just holding a beer with everyone else just cracks me up
This is great! Watched the first 1/4 of it. Loved playing this on arcade as a kid (1988!)
Back in the day, was and still is my all time favorite. So the same for my friends as well.
@13:34 Is that an homage to "The Scream" in the lower right corner?
jay4sizzle yes indeed, I think it's a tribute to the painting from Munch called "the Scream"
In 1988 when this came out I was 12! I loved it and played it a ton! In the arcade & at home.
Yup and Strider too!
@@MyDOOKIE1 🙂
Hahaha funny finding this one back... this shit was really awsome back in the day ... good sound effects for that era ... nice post !
Dragon always best form, shock shield massing = invincible
I must agree, it is my favourite form.
The ending cracks me up
Just a crack? Like a coffee straw?
What a twist!
Wanna see the bird? click on 15:00 he-he
Hey you've gotta put it in perspective, when it firs came out in '88 this was awesome! ;)
I like how they usually say 'Winners Don't Use Drugs' and then they give this guy steroids.
You mean the FBI logo?
@@AbrahamCortina-tz9lx Yes.
"Power up" love the monotone
I'm just glad that everyone gets to enjoy beer at the end.
Holy childhood! I remember when this came out on Sega G I was 5 years old.Loved this game!
I thought Sega arcade games like that can gave kids some 90s nightmares when playing at a restaurant or laundromat
Wow! The arcade version looks better than the genesis version! =3
I think its awfully kind of the evil wizard to repair your ripped shirt at the end of each level for you.
I always liked how in arcade rooms someone would kinda slide up on someone who they noticed was doing well. 30 min later he's got an audience. Haha.
i like how he powers up and gets bigger but his head stays the same size lol
Level 1: Announced Death Chronicle... Tombs in Cemetery have the names "Alex" and "Stella", the first one a former SEGA mascot until 1991.
Also the guy who dies in the beginning of Golden Axe is also called Alex. And Stella was the name of the Atari 2600 prototype or something like that.
The ending is awesome... Beers and cheers !
he turned into cheetahmen
Weretiger
And then... Cheetahmen!
Great job. There was a PS2 remake of this game in 2005, but it's only available in Japan & Europe.
Welcome to your doom, i love that voice
I remember playing the arcade version when i was 10 i prefer the arcade version over the genesis version made it too easy though these were good times 27 years later im almost 37 and i still like to reflect on my youth....
Gotta love that stage 1 tune.
I knew this version looked nicer than the Genesis version, but I'd forgotten how much so (though it is a little disappointing to see that detailed animation for the Werewolf and just flickers for the other beasts). It makes me glad that Arcade games like this are more accessible nowadays.
Also, I just noticed for the first time that Neff isn't wearing anything under that cloak.
which version is this ?
15:44 me and the boys planning to kidnap Zeus' daughter.
me and my brother would play this game all the time, we would always rage on the last level cause of the weird unicorn things
I love how the tiger is just the wolf, but with a different head MS-Painted on it
I remember playing this game at a local pizza parlor while waiting for my dad's order to go. This was back in 1991.
Never give up!
Brings back so many memories....
5:18 His absurd musculature alone knocked that guy over the edge.
Love this game brings back so much memories! Played it at my local arcade when I was 10... Mmmm those were the best times in gaming!
All these years I never knew werebears had turn you to stone breath. My life was incomplete until this moment.
I remember when i had the Genesis and i first played this on it. Great times, i love Altered Beast.
Used to play this at Long's years ago as a teen. Oh, the memories.
This game is very good.
If any game deserves a remake it's this.
My first game ever... When I was a kid... This was so fun... On MSDOS... lol
Good memories as a kid. I knew this game in an arcade of a tourist village in 1996 and I liked him immediately. I could not pass the third level with the bear, which I think is the worst to use.
89' to 90' played it as 5-6 year old, never went past the bear lvl as well. :)
2:09
And this was Zordon's first performance before landing a job on Power Rangers. XD
I wasn’t born till 2008 and yet my dad had this game on CD and we would play it all the time 🥲
One of the best memories of my youth!
Awise from yow gwaave!
UBUNTU UBUNTU I see you rised from your grave Harambee.
I used to play the hell outta this game. One of Sega Genesis BEST arcade to home console games ever dunn ❤😅 🎮🆒💯🎧🎵@World Of Longplays
90s arcade.... Some of the best!!!!
"Welcome To Your Doom"
Player: "You must not know 'bout me."
So this is what inspired harry potter, right?
Yes. My favourite Harry Potter character is Neff.
My favorite harry potter character is Zeus.....
This more likely was Ben 10 before Ben 10.
One of my favorite games of all time, but I love the sound effects and the music score from the Sega Genesis version better.👊🏻👌🏼💯💥

Bendito seas porque es una ganga jugar un juego que en su estreno (1988)je...
Jugué la versión de sega génesis 😢😢😢
I've heard that the end of game boss is now making quite the living in the gay club scene with his awesome stage shows.
Was this game really this slow & dull? I remember it so differently
You were a kid with an imagination back then
Nope, it's just that modern games has made these games look "slow and dull."
Never got why this game got the attention it did when it came out as it was slow and dull and there were much better games.
beach life this came out in 1988 what other game at the time could you compare it to
Stefano Magaddino this is the arcade version
Loved this on the Mega Drive.

I like this game, but I wish it had more stages and beast forms. I always thought it was cool when you transformed into beast form.
Omfg...my Childhood. Wait...he turned into all those awesome monsters, and the Final Boss was damn Rocksteady?!

welcome to your doom!!!
man those days brings me back LOL
I'm surprised that Neff in his rhino form made a cameo in Wreck-it-Ralph. Props to Disney. c:
He did?
What's so good about this beast? Well, he's altered
so the final boss is rocksteady
One of the best games of all time

Why is there no Parallax-scrolling? Even the MEGADRIVE-PORT has it!
3:12 That roar is Godzilla and Gamera's fused together.
The first boss always freaked me out. Acually they all do, like the eyeball watermelon thing. Could use a couple of those power ups now.
When I was a kid wasted all my allowance every month to finish this game in the arcade, took over a year lol, Only 9yo, extremely noob. Good memories, I made a lot of friends in the arcade.
When i was a kid, by the late 80's or the early 90's i saw this game running on Toys'r'us. ^^ And i wondered that this Game is so violence.
0:28 Power-Up
This is formidable
2:32 I always got a kick out of what happens to those swamp creatures' faces when they're kicked.
the group photo at the end, the guy's name is FU
I’m surprised this wasn’t an 80’s movie cuz Arnold in his prime woulda nailed it
cuando era niño, me daba miedo jugarlo.
Jesus... never dawned on me that you fight He Who Shall Not Be Named *cough* Voldemort *cough* within 2 minutes. Bitch, I'm shook!
Never give up.
Now part of SEGA Heroes!
16 minutes of my childhood :D but in my case, 50+ hours :D memories :)
man,, did I put some quarters in this arcade machine
sweet childhood memories..
