    I carry a few knives for edc. One is a browning, one is a Kershaw flitch, and the other two are karabits (one fixed blade and one folder) but I carry the karambits for self defence as I have the training to use them and the others while they could be used for self defence can be used by anyone who could get their hands on it in the event of me dropping either of them where as a karambit needs a certain level of skill and knowlage to use and its less easy to drop due to the ring.

    Hey, thank you for making all these reviews, they’ve kind of given me a different perspective on all this. As a young person myself, I’m obviously interested in the knives that just appeal to me in appearance. You’ve given me a whole bunch of methods to test the performance and quality instead. Once again, thank you, these have gotten me interested in this kind of thing.

    That "rescue" knife can be found in gas stations and convenience stores ( the one I am at has a whole shelf full of them) ranging from $11.99 to $21.99 depending on "features" and theme and they are all POS, almost all of them will jam open if you flick them open due to the blade lock moving too far over and wedging into the far side of the groove.

    Never seen a quality karambit that's got a split ring loop. Got a Fox Knives 599, had it for three years now and it's the coolest knife I've ever owned. Retains its edge like crazy, only sharpened it once, and I use it for cutting twine, opening boxes, shaving wood (whittling sticks), and other stuff, and it's still an EDC.

    Ok I was a karambit fan for a while until I took actual knife lessons for self defense. Now I just carry a normal knife because if you go all out with a fixed blade vs a karambit 9 times out of 10 the fixed blade will feel a hell of a lot more damage. It would be effective if you know how to use it but let's be honest. Most people that carry a karambit dont know how to use them.

    Funny story...I used to work security/front door guy at a night club and as in most clubs we wanded for weapons and didn't allows knifes, etc. If they happened to forget to leave it in their vehicle we allowed them to take it back out or leave it with us and they could get it back when they left. So this guy come in with that exact rescue knife, he didn't want to run it back out to his car so I told him I would hold onto it. He was so anal about making sure he got it back and that i didn't steal it bc it was so expensive, and a top of the line knife, blah blah blah. He even offered to tip me to babysit it and make sure no one took it and he got it back. Me being me, told him I would give him money to take it back because it is the biggest piece of shit I had ever seen in my life and if he left it I was going to throw it away. I told him the only thing worth anything with that knife was the batteries in the light. He was so butt hurt and pissed I made fun of his cherished piece of cutlery. What complete garbage!!

    I'm not a martial artist. I'm a hunter, fisherman, rock climber or backpacker. Can a karambit be useful to me as a utility knife?
    Absolutely. The karambit was originally developed as an agricultural and field tool. It can be used for gutting, cleaning, scoring, scaling, cleanly slicing ropes, survival situations and many other utilitarian purposes. Particularly for users who may find themselves in difficult situations (like rock climbers, cavers, spelunkers and hikers), the karambit's safety features and blade stability in all environments and in any position can't be beat. Additionally, unlike other field or survival knives, a karambit will stay securely in your hand even if your hand is open, tying a knot or doing something else, like carrying a flashlight or gun.
    ----karambit.com
    im not trying to make it sound like these knives are not weapons. they are in the right hands some of the most deadliest knives. however, can you at least give it a chance as a field knife/survival knife.
    thank you.

    • @DocP91B
      @DocP91B  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really respect the time you put into your comment. I have tried out a Karambit in the field and a couoke of my troops thought they might take them on deployments. The fact is the exaggerated curve of the blade simoly does not work out well for general utility use and cutting duties. Not as well as a traditional straight edge. It dedinitely is not as useful as a multi-purpose survival blade. You aren't going to be able to dig with it or lash it to a pole to make a spear if need be. Not as well or as easily as a straight bladed knife. You can chop or baton with them worth a damn. It's very hard to use them for precision work. If you look up some of the pictures of ancient Karambits you'll find a lot of images of less curved blades. The shape of a modern day Karambit has changed a bit since the days when they were simple agricultural tools. They took on a more aggressive shape more like claws or talons when they became more used as weapons. The modern day shape of the Karambit follows that more aggressive profile, and not the less exagerated shape of say...a scythe, which is in effect a large version of an ancient Karambit style blade.

    I use a silicon storage sock inside of my rifle cases. I also have one on my hand guns. they are just another level of protection against moisture. it only takes a few seconds to put them on or take them off, and I don't have to worry about condensation nearly as much as I would without them.

    Rescue knives don't work anymore. As of 2018 new federal regulations make it mandatory that all window glass in a car is safety glass shatterproof. The only rescue knife that I have found that will cut through the new glass is made by Victoria Knox because it has a special saw to cut through shatterproof glass I have one. The old way of hitting the glass with the pointed end of a rescue knife only put a small hole in it then you're going to need a special glass cutting saw

    You should do a video on tactical setups !! So people that joint can have the knowledge on how to set up there kits and other gear for Operations etc and how special forces and special operations have 2 of each usually atleast I do for Operation set up like spreading the load on my vest if I’m in a supporting element to have the front more flat and set for best stability for putting rounds down range and other kit setups for other operations!!

    I have my Gerber rescue knife from the mid 90's. It has a rounded non sharpened blade tip, fully serrated down the cutting edge. A built in foldable seatbelt cutter, a glass breaker, an oxygen wrench and a socket/bit driver set. It's a beast. I think they've made a newer model, called the firefighter maybe? Idk. Either way I been EDC before tacti tards made EDC kewl.

    Okay dude, here’s the thing about karambits. They aren’t made for utility. They are STRICTLY made for slashing someone’s throat. AKA Self-defense.

    • @DocP91B
      @DocP91B  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm just going to say that I think you need to do a little research on things before you comment. The Karambit was designed and invented as a farming tooland was used for a long time as a daily utility knife in Indonesia and the surrounding region. It was adopted as a weapon soon after. I agree with you that the most common modern use is as a fighting knife. But on that note look into Kali martial arts as well. Throat slicing is way down on the list of prefered strike with Karambit. There are lots of other points on the body with much more exposed veins, arteries, & tendons that are much less protected than the throat. Seriously, the cartilage and muscles in the neck are no joke. It's not as all as easy as it looks in the movies, especially if the person is tensed up.
