    I think it’s a bit harder to recognize Frieren because photos are really that common in this world. While statues of her do exist, statues do not capture one’s looks to the same fidelity as photographs or videos. Add to the fact that most people who might see her in person are dead and her tendency to not want to stand out, it makes a little bit more sense that regular folk don’t quite realize who she is most of the time. This is especially true for demons younger than 80 years as they don’t really live in places where statues of Frieren would be.
    Also, Qual is the “Sage of Corruption” so not part of the 7 Sages of Destruction.

    The reason why Frieren does things methodically is because she’s been conditioned that way. Part of it is her nature as an elf, but also her master’s teachings, adventuring with Himmel, and more recently with Fern. She probably would have blown up the mountain side instead of levitating each boulder out of the way if she hadn’t been influenced by Himmel.

    22:10 "They don't seem *evil*"
    Correct. It's just what they do. A bear eating someone isn't an act of evil, it's an act of being a bear. That said, they have the capacity for learning, and I wonder what would happen if a demon were to live long enough to learn that leaving humans alone, or even working alongside them, would get them greater returns in the end than the alternative.

    The thing with the demon race in Frieren is that they are a basically a convergent species when compared to humans. They are basically monsters that adapted and evolved to be able to act and appear like humans in order to more easily prey upon humans. Thus they dissolve into mana when killed like every other monster encountered. The difference is they are intelligent and they can speak with humans just fine, but the problem is they do it to lower their prey's guard and to take advantage of their emotions and morals. They are a predator hunting prey, and thus in that regard they do not feel guilt for it. Does a hunter feel guilty for the animals they have killed? Are hunters not willing to trick an animal they are hunting if it means they can kill it more easily? This is why these demons are uncanny. They are human-like beings who can do horrible and cruel things to humans, but they feel no guilt and they have no malice. Their human facade hides the fact they think in a way that is alien to humans and they prefer it that way.

    It's not "convenient" that she runs into a commemoration of the hero's party's achievement because she is journeying along the same exact path so would be arriving at the same spots approximately at around the same time, assuming that she travels at approximately the same speed. So if she runs into one festival (anniversary of the hero's party's achievement there), she will of course arrive at the next town at around the same number of days the hero's party got to the same next town and saved that town.

      Yeah, you kinda feel bad for them, and at the same time, you don't. Demons are born psychopaths and there's nothing they can do about it. There are several instances in the series where demons tried to reach out and bridge the gap but are unable to because they have no empathy and are incapable of truly processing and understanding emotions.

    Yeah, I would imagine almost all demons, who have seen Frieren, have died shortly after. And it's not like they had a camera to snap a picture of her, or the internet to spread it around. Demons aren't even that much of a society tbh. So at best, a demon would know that "A hero party had an unknown elf mage who really didn't like demons".
    I'll be looking forward to the next 2 episodes, they're gonna be banger

    I came to the conclusion that the demons are like ai text generators. The ai doesn't have any feelings about the words it generates. It just creates what will fulfill the request the best based on an algorithm.

  • @lofilipeta
    @lofilipeta 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    The best analogy I read about the whole "demons can speak but not communicate" is that they are like hunters who are able to whistle to attract birds and hunt them. They don't know what they are saying when whistling to the birds, they only know what kind of sounds make them do things we want them to do. It is just that since human speaking is a little more complex than whistles, the demons sound like they can comunicate, when they really don't have a good concept of what the words they say mean

  • @saynay302

    Aura is one of the Seven Sages of Destruction. The previous guy was an "Elder Sage", but not one of the Seven.
    As far as "why 7", I am guessing it ties to Japanese mythology. The Seven Sages, plus the Demon Lord, would make eight, so could be a reference to Orochi the Eight-headed evil dragon of myth.

    • @allanperez8743

      also Christianity, 7 is the number of God, just like 3 is perfection, 6 is the number of man , hence why 777 is the Perfect God, the Holy Trinity and 666 is the perfect human and why it would be the antichrist

    • @TheCsel
      @TheCsel 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The number 7 represents completeness, 7 days in a week with the 7th day being significant. So 7 gets associated with God and God’s plan in the Bible. But in other cultures too 7 gets significance possibly because it’s a prime number.

      The title is historical, it actually originates from Antique Greek, referring to set of pre-Socratean philosophers, statesmen and mathematicians. They are not talked that much due to Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, but they are nevertheless an interesting piece of history.
      Also, the antiquity was fascinated with number seven, there were seven seas, seven metals, seven planets (actually five plus Sun and Moon, you can't see everything without telescope) and seven day week.

  • @hereforonereason5820
    @hereforonereason5820 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    "It's always 7" is not something I've really thought about before, but yeah, it's odd how that number keeps popping up out of japanese media. The Dragonballs, The Chaos Emeralds, all the references to the 7 Deadly sins (including the show that took that as its namesake). And knowing how they treat "4" (shi/death) over there, part of me wonders if it's not the same sort of linguistic thing. That or something religious, Buddhism, Toaism, Shintoism, Christianity which has its imagery used a lot, (See also: Death Note, Evangelion, Fullmetal Alchemist:Brotherood, etc.).
    I love the demons in this series. The way they're introduced to intentionally lead you to believe that the war with the Demon King led Frieren to have a negative bias towards them, implying that they're just another misunderstood race of fantasy people like elves or dwarves, like most fantasy anime...only for it to be revealed that NO, Frieren was RIGHT to try killing them on sight, they're literally monsters that look and talk like people as an evolutionary act of mimicry to exploit ingrained human vulnerabilities, that her experience as someone who spent so much time fighting them SHOULDN'T be discounted because this isn't a world where the trope of evil demons exists to be subverted, and your genre awareness isn't an advantage here. If you find yourself empathizing with them, their trick is working and while you should always try to extend that empathy in times of uncertainty, it's also important to harbor some reasonable suspicion lest you be preyed upon.
    This story is so well thought out. Not in an FMA, Attack On Titan, perfectly plotted out, closed circle kind of way, more in a Tolkien way, where the world is full of things that make sense and have their own context and history. There's an in universe explanation for the evolutionary psychology of both Elves AND Demons. It's awesome.

    It was subtle but Himmel had a visible reaction to Fieren saying she was probably the one who knew what Flamme looked like. For a merchant he didnt seem that smart but then again who would believe that they had stumbled across a legendary hero who was now clearing a landslide for you for pay.
    Most demons are something similar to a complete sociopath, except they are also completely ignorant of how humans think or how our society works.

      7:25 Think of it like the conversation between Gandalf and Frodo, "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, he arrives precisely when he means to!" He said it jokingly, of course, but Frieren as a long-lived mage gives me a similar vibe and it makes me think she uses that unfathomable memory of hers to intuitively navigate as she is reliving the 10 year journey she to with Himmel and the others.

There are also vids of live shows from his tour he's posted, and wild topic clips from his livestreams such as, "crazy flows", dissecting his own bars", and bônus OB clips He didn't put in a video. 21:20 I'm glad to see for the 1st time, someone having the exact same interpretation of this scene as I had.
    There's not really a definition of good or bad on a demon's head. They just decide to do something and go forward with it.
    In this case, it seemed she just wanted to live peacefully, and so decided to try to "reconcile" with those 2 that hated her. But her means are obviously "evil" in the eyes of humans. So there's just no telling when a demon will do something problematic on whim.

    6:50 It even makes a lot of sense in evolutionary terms. The animals that reproduce most are the ones that live in constant danger (like rabbits), while every animal that has high chances of surviving and living a long life (whales) reproduces a lot less. If a species gets to the point where they're almost immortal, and also extremely powerful with magic, it doesn't make sense for them to also want to reproduce a lot.

    25:51 The number seven has significance in basically all cultures across the globe, deep into history and prehistory.
    There's probably some biological basis for that, but it's not clear what that might be.
    Another consequence of that significance that you may never have really thought about is the number of days in a week.

    It's not that the events were conveniently timed, it's that when you go on such a long journey and stop by so many places, you are bound to have a few reminders here and there of the enormous feat your party had achieved. Especially if you were to journey on the exact same route that you took before. You are bound to chance upon a few of the yearly celebrations (of the world being saved) at some of the spots you pass by.

    Himmel death and Aura regain her power at the same time, for what we know, it's just coincidence and without relation.
    Also, Frieren is an elf and has lived longer than any human can imagine. The merchant who accompanied her to town, for example, is possibly between 50 and 70 years old, meaning he never lived during the time Himmel and his party ventured out and defeated the Demon King. He only knows the stories of the hero and his group. Plus, It is like @rediciclepop4639 commented, statues never accurately capture people's features. Frieren is known by name, but will very rarely be recognized physically by people, especially those who were born during the period of peace (she is known without being known). The people who knew her 80 years ago and know who she is, most of them have already passed away. People can even see the similarity between the statues and Frieren, but that is all, as everyone only knows her by name and the statue is nothing more than an imperfect representation of the real person. It's different for us who have pictures and videos of famous people of 100/200 years ago, for example.
    Another thing is that young demons don't recognize her, only older demons who encounter her and survived.

    Most fantasy treats other species as humans who are short or humans who are green or humans who have point ears. Freiren is not human. She doesn't have the same biology, psychology, social expectations, emotional or biological imperatives (or at least not operating along the same scale of time) or anything really except for the common language they speak. I'd say an inability to get going in the morning is a pretty mild difference given how hard some humans find that. She isn't built to be part of a hustling species of short lived fast paced humans. As long as she eats enough, sleeps enough and enjoys her time, what does it matter if half any given day is "wasted"? While her days are not truly limitless in number, she will have so many of them, that there truly is no reason to rush. Given their numbers even before they started dying out, they just don't do anything on at a reasonable speed by human standards except killing their enemies or engaging with others as they encounter them.
    It's possible she may have even come to feel more than fondness for Himmel given a century or twelve but that wasn't going to happen and given the scarcity of elves at this point in the world's history, there aren't enough of them anymore to build a population. There are humans who do not develop serious attractions unless they have an established relationship with the other party. Whether this is due to reticence or a cognitive difference from the mainstream doesn't really matter. Perhaps Elves in general, or at least Frieren needs that long established emotional connection to take anything beyond friendship or aquaintance.

    • @JF95
      @JF95 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, demons in this world are evil in the sense that they prey on humans and are well adapted to doing so. From what I understand they preyed on elves before the elves fell into decline also. They are simply a different type of being, equally intelligent to humans or elves or dwarves but mimicking humanoids in form and speech to varying degrees to lure their prey and divert danger wherever possible.

    Ps, if you ever want to get into Evangelion, I recommend skipping the TV series and going for the rebuild movies (Eva 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.0+1.0) The first two basically re-do the original series and extend the ending from an unsatisfying one to an actual ending.

    These next few episodes reinforce a couple things especially how Frieren isn't well known. I also like that this series is popular for two big reasons. First, it's classical fantasy not the bog standard isekai spam we've received. Second, the antagonists (the demons) are objectively bad and are shown as such. What I think is interesting about it and that it'll get into later is why the Demon King was waging war.

      unfortunately the anime won't get far enough to cover the macht, solair, and the city of gold. at best the anime will end with the magic exam. because they can't cut out the magic exam to skip to the city of gold arc because the magic exam is the arc that introduces the characters of the city of gold arc. they would need a third season to get to the city of gold arc.

      @@jaideepshekhar4621while that is true, it's more than possible that elves invented the language or created it alongside humans.
      As far as we know, in Frieren's fantasy world, humans, elves and dwarves come from the godess but demons don't, they descend from monsters.
      You could argue the same about dwarves but the three races; Humans, Elves and Dwarves are intelligent because they were created from the goddess.
      Demons... They descend from not very intelligent monsters that used to cry for help in dark caves to attract humans as well as the fact that they only prey on humans, and if I had to guess, they were probably created by an evil god or a real demon.
