I agree, he could teach a class on that very subject and not one person could be bored. What an interesting fella. Vet students could learn so much from George.
Wow love George and the horses! Love drafthorses i also watch Fletcherfarm amarillo they save drafthorses from slauther and give them al the care, love and well deserved retirement
George should be a regular guest. I know everyone is very busy but this man has so much knowledge and experience to offer the present and the future. What a treat this has been. Thanks you two:)!!And extend a special thanks to George.
If I had 2 horses to choose from and I looked at all of the head features.., right B4 I'd make my choice, I'd say "which one did Jim and George train?" They would point.. 'this one'..I'd say "ok, I'll take that one.". Ah ha, interesting , all those things and the information passed down through the generations, the energy horizontal in the colic out the tail is interesting, Martial art like.. So big! 1 ton plus each, a bigger horse requires more feed? A smaller horse moves better in the woods? We'll see what Jim says. Thank you George, Bill and Badger are awesome. A reflection of the Man that feeds him and cares for him. Lastly regarding the Maple Syrup, great to see , I will not get to the Badger state till May so missing the sap season. 1st week in April often the boil, one year I was home the last week of March and the trees froze, no dripping yet, so I missed the boil.. I learned from a Man now around 100 , George is mid 70's and so the tradition passed down again and again. In Alaska there is the Whaling tradition, in the northeast to Northern Midwest (Wisconsin) is the Maple Syrup Tradition. This is a rich part of us northerners our tradition. Thank you Jim George Brenda and the Horsies. 🐎. Love it, awesome to the core.
George is a wealth of knowledge. Thanks for sharing George with us! I bet you could sit for hours & hours with George & still have things to learn from him. You made his day with your visit (and recording him), & he made your day(& ours) with his wisdom & winning personality. It's a true win-win relationship.
Thank you Jim and Brenda for introducing George to us. This man has wealth of knowledge to share and he is hilarious. Jim you made me laugh when you asked how much he paid for his ribbons. 😂😂 When your time permits would love to see another visit with George. God bless you all..
That was a wonderful video!! 🥰. Can watch George over and over!! His knowledge is totally awesome, his knowledge should never be forgotten!! Visit again!! 🥰
Jim and Brenda, Thank You so much for taking us viewers along on your visit to your friend Georges Farm in Vermont. I really enjoyed George's tutorial on making maple syrup. It was terrific !!! The consumer would have no idea on the ratio that takes an average of 43 U.S. Gallons of Sap to boil to produce 1 U.S. Gallon of Maple Syrup. Bill and Badger are a massive and wonderful team of Belgian Horses . George's theory on the parts of the horses head ring true . I remember my horse mentor Mike talking about the horse head theory . The single furrow plow looks in great condition.
Hello Jim and Brenda.. That man thats making syrup is a wealth of knowledge.. I'm so amazed..I'll bet Jim loves this guy and his knowledge of horses...God bless❤
Thank you, Brenda and Jim, I learned a lot about making syrup and horses! It is great that he is passing his knowledge along to others. Thank you both for bringing us this video. 😊
This is a FUN field trip! This gentleman, George, is wonderful and a delight to hear his stories! I realllly enjoyed this video! Had a couple of laughs! I sure would love to sample his maple syrup! Thank you Brenda and Jim for taking us along for the trip!
And if any our viewers can help George out in those Mason jars, donate cash OR give him a flat of jars he can use for his maple syrup business. Canning jars are hard to come by in our area since we do have a lot of canning folks.
Truly enjoyed your visit and this video with your dear friend George. The tour of the sugar shack and how everything works, along with his humor was wonderful. Loved the horse segment too, very interesting and informative. Thanks to all of you and God bless. 😊❤
Every now and thin I stumble across an article, Book or video on Mapel Surup. I have enjoyed seeing Videos on Hores and Oxen pulling Sleds with Barels as folks collect Mapel sap. Very enjoyable, thanks for this Videl Jim and Brinda. Have a wonderful day Ray King Eckart Colorado.
Thank you for that WONDERFUL visit with George. He is so FULL of life on so many fronts. Awesome video. Look forward to seeing more sharing of visits with the generous souls in your working draft horse realm.
First time viewing, very informational and entertaining. Just a thought you two should visit more elders and video them before their knowledge is lost. That would be awesome!
Oh my goodness them AMAZING horses are like one big power house, the beauti of them l cant find the right words WOW This man is a walking encyclopedia. My head was swimming, l kept thinking take a breath please lol. Thankyou Jim and Brenda dear friends.
Hi Jim & Brenda - George at the Sugar House in Vermont was fascinating......you could tell The Sugar House was his Baby! Reminds me of a glorified "Still" - don't tell George I said that! Boy Brenda.....sounds like you have a terrible cold - take care. Thank you both for the trip to meet George and learn about turning maple sap into yummy maple syrup! God bless❤.........
Well, this is one of your most special videos you have ever shown. Really enjoyed George’s insight into horses. Can almost taste his maple sap. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
George is an amazing example of how learning by doing sticks with us.. and none to subtle in pointing out his "working" cap.. Good for him.. Much love and Thanks so much for Sharing
What a wonderful, knowleagable friend that you have with George.>>>I love his young heart, as his sense of humour, and seeing the sugar shack, and evaporator, as well as the felt maple syrup filter bags, brought me so many fond memories, as my dad, my grandfather, my twin-brother and I, made our own maple syrup, maple butter, maple sugar, as maple toffee on snow, on our family farm in Mattawa, Ontario, Canada, east of North Bay, Ontario.>>>I truly enjoyed meeting George, and please pass-on my warmest regards to him, would You?
Last March we were visiting Camille at Paul Smiths and were fortunate enough to visit the Sugar Shack at the VIC at PSC. They were making syrup at the time and gave us a tasting fresh from the evaporator. It was warm, pure and super sweet! And of course we brought some back home to Indiana with us!
Wow, George is an amazing man. So enjoyable learning about maple syrup and all the work involved. Then his knowledge of horses had me mesmerized! He is a very interesting man. I look forward to seeing the flowers from the seed he gave you Brenda! I agree with him about marigolds. They are by far my favorite flower to grow because they're so hardy (and smell so good)! Thanks for taking us with you to meet George!
I would love to have heard more of George's wisdom on horse physiology. We have a paint horse at our barn with double cowlick(swirl) side by side on his forehead. He is the smartest horse I've ever met. Escape artist, let's other horses out when he can, I've always thought those cowlicks were indicators
That guy is a hoot. What a nice old school sugaring set up. Love his reaction to your questioning him as if you you don't believe what he is saying, you can't fake that. Thanks Jim and Brenda.
What a wonderful old character! Boundless energy and knowledge. George is a perfect example of how one can be, as a bachelor. He is clean living, organised, and free to pursue his passions. The horses are tremendous, and remind me of old Mick, in Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains in Australia. Mick liked a horse with a big Roman nose, and if he spotted a pretty horse might comment "Got a bad dish in its face". George's horses look all business, superb. No wonder maple syrup seems expensive, a lot of making goes into it. Maple is not native to Australia, no-one here does this, I never seen it before. Jim, Brenda, thanks so much for this video. Looking forward to seeing you plough up Brenda's garden with the new plough, and all the new seeds started. Oops, plow!
What a character George is. So much knowledge and stories. I wish I lived close to Vermont (I’m in Louisiana), would love to visit his business. Thanks for sharing him with us!
Interesting to see his sugaring operation. We've been making syrup in Michigan for at least 20 years. We went from a flat pan on a cinder block arch outside to a 2x6 raised flue Tole Inox evaporator in a sugar shack. The shack is constructed like an old barn with mortise and tenon and wood pegs holding it together.
Very informative and it's great seeing all the 'behind the scene' details. George is one smart and funny guy! Thanks for sharing this experience with us :)
JIM Am I correct . George gave you a rare walking plow that flips the furrow to the left. I was told that was for plowing on side hills . But a few of those old timers will tell tale tales , gotta them .Thank you George . We call them characters. Love Badger and Bill .❤😊😊😊
This was interesting to watch as always and such a beautiful place with beautiful horses. Wonderful to see the syrup operation! Would love to taste that maple syrup! Thanks, Jim, Brenda, and George! God bless!
What a wonderful friend you have in George. The world would be such a better place if everyone had a pinch of his outlook inside them. I'm sharing this video with everyone I know. George, you are my inspiration. Best classroom presentation I've ever had! 😉💞
What a wonderful video! If it seems at times that people in this country are acting and talking a little crazy. I suggest watching and listening to George for 45 minutes and you’ll know things are OK. George has the same passion, gentleness and love for horses as Jim.
WOW! What a character. George has enough knowledge to fill a library of books. Please do another visit with him when you can.
Very nice man! Good friend!
