@@CoredumpedGaming It was, modding of BG for noob is hard thing. I have question about SCS already) Tryied to install it yesturday but it has "out of memory" error in bunch of components. Installed it on EET 2.6.6., Weidu 64-bit. Itstalled it manual way - yup, long-long time)) What seems to be the problem?
@@ARokanten For that purpose I would say check out this page - forums.beamdog.com/discussion/74088/join-the-gibberlings-3-on-discord - it has a link to the Gibberlings3 discord where you can find people to help you (I'm there as well)
Usually, I would bitch and moan at a video being this long for a modding guide. But you took the time to break down the video, took time to add timestamps and spoke clearly and concisely throughout and had a clear structure to the video. THANK HELM FOR YOU
Amazing video, many thanks for the detailed explanation of the nitty gritty of modding BG! It can be very overwhelming for newcomers to start modding their games!
I am also suggesting to install Portraits Portraits Everywhere mod but Reloaded version which you can request from the author. This mod adds a portrait to every NPC in game including Cooks, Bartenders, Commoners etc. Greatly increases atmosphere!
Hi, this vid and your other advice has been a great help. I just started my SCS run all the way in BG1. So far so good, great experience. Finally I'm going to use all those potions and spells :D
I've put all the relevant information I could think of in the video description. Any questions feel free to ask and I'll update the description if needed! edit - sneaky Edwin uses his magics to pop up at 01:12:50 ... I couldn't stop him, sorry. Enjoy :)
Really enjoyed your PoE series. Can't wait to get back to BG1&BG2 in prep for BG3. Thanks a ton for helping get mods setup so I can enjoy these classics (again... a couple decades later)!
Just to help out any of you who run into this same issue: If you try to install SCS (For BG2 this happened to me) and the Weidu terminal starts up for a second then closes out and won't run, try running the installer as administrator, that worked in my case
Nice work, best part: I'm not a patient person -> click install SCS :D. Last time i made i goof in my mod installation, and needed to correct it (quite few mods) SCS reinstalled itself...and took all my time to play that evening :-(
Just wanted to give a massive shout out to Coredumped Gaming for this video. I've been a very, very long time player of BG through ToB and never played with any mods because of the difficulty and complexity of the task. I have looked up guides before, but I'm the kind of guy who really needs that step-by-step visual line-up a good video provides. This was it. Being able to follow along made the process easy, and everything works exactly as expected. Thank you for making such a great guide, and for filling the spaces inbetween with very useful tips, and supplemental information!
Thank you very much kind sir :D The installation for these mods need some getting used to indeed. Happy to be able to help! Enjoy your mods, feel free to drop by and let me know how you like the changes they bring :D
@@CoredumpedGaming Oh I gotta say I love it. The first encounters felt very refreshing, and with my tweaking of the difficulty based on your suggestions, the game feels brand new in many ways. Thanks again!
I think what the BG world needs most, is a total conversion mod that takes everything and more from BG1ee, BG2ee, IWDee, IWD2, and Planescape Torment, and mix it all together into a truly randomized almost roguelite mod where you go place to place, dungeon to dungeon, and just have a random DnD style adventure. I love all those games, but the story never changes. i would love to make or find my 6 man party and just take random quests and adventures into random places from castles to mazes, to anywhere and do quests. Quests as advanced as stopping a demon invasion, to something as simple as saving a little girl's cat who is lost in an abandoned fortress, with random gear, random loot, random encounters, almost random everything. The problem with all these games, knowing the story aside, is you know where the good gear is, and which gear is even good to use. So much in these games is just gotten to be sold, we need adventures where we say, I don't even know what's coming next, but I sure am exciting to find it. It would make so many abilities and classes worth-wild, to use the tracking ability to get a sense of what could be there so you could prepare. I don't know how hard it would be to do, but I am so sure it could easily be done, and even AI generated landscapes would be fine for many parts of the randomized map areas, use hard-points if needed. Use the best from every game, new kits, new weapons, new gear, everything. Id gladly donate to their patreon if a team even attempted this but it is something we need. Maybe even use an AI dungeon master to craft a story or encounters when needed. All I know is, this is something that we need as BG fans
Sounds like a style of rogue like DnD game, which could be cool I suppose, don't think I've ever played one. Most DnD style of games like to have a story associated to it which I think is also fitting to the style. I understand the idea you're going for and I think it could be fun if done right. Item randomization I would bet there is already a mod for that for the Baldur's Gate games, which may help in what you're looking for. I'm not that much of a fan of randomness in the loot (for repeated playthroughs) because I think it may make planning a character or party quite difficult, such as for example creating an archer type character whose damage is quite reliant on the bow and then never seeing a good one drop. Not saying it wouldn't work of course, and I think there is a lot of excitement in finding useful things as you explore, which gives that "first playthrough" feeling when you find really cool items for the first time :D I would certainly try a game of this style. It reminds me of a game called tower of time ( I think that's the name) which could be somewhat similar? Haven't played it yet though, some day :p
Thank you so much, man. Beat Bg 1 & 2 sometimes through the years and found out casually there are mods that improve every aspect of the game. Gotta give it a try!
Good to hear it was helpful friend :) I definitely recommend the mods shown here, they all improve the game quite a bit adding weird things to it. Good luck and have fun on your runs :D
Something that might be worth mentioning since the Rogue Rebalancing mod is on your list here is that the self extracting rare download for it gets flagged by windows defender as trojan. There's a thread about it in the rogue rebalance forum confirming that as a false positive but that might scare some people away from it.
I believe that only happens if you download it from the Sorcerer's place website. If you use the link I put in the description of the video that does not happen. Still, it might be worth adding a note in case somebody goes and downloads it from Sorcerer's place, thanks. edit: I added a note for this in the description.
I actually tried the link you put in there first, but that one had no executable file when I downloaded it. I wound up using the one from Sorcerer's place. Just had to override Windows Defender to unzip it. Once it's unzipped, Defender doesn't complain about it anymore.
Tweaks is one of my must have mods everytime I start another run at this point. It just adds so much to the game and since it's highly customizable the player can tune it to whatever they prefer :D
Thank you so much. Excellent advice and incredible useful. The final section is particularly important in my opinion after recent experiences with Skyrim AE :P
I had no idea, that you have to install DLCMerger before any mods and was wondering why they work, but display incorrectly!))) Thanks a lot, sir, very appreciated for this video!
Thanks Edwin wouldn't have been able to mod bg1 and bg2 without you, kind of odd to see you being so charitable but I'm sure it'll all benefit you in the end somehow. Like it always somehow does. Now to spend another 10 hours making a new character
I'm getting ready to play BgEE and eventually BgII EE. I only came here looking for the Rogue Rebalancing patch.(I Couldnt find any links that even worked until I found this vid.) I ended up getting all of the mods you suggested, though I did use quite a few different settings than you did for some of them. Regardless, thankyou. I have a feeling my first BG playthrough is going to be a lot more enjoyable thanks to you.
Enjoy my friend :) These mods really do give a whole different experience to the game. SCS mainly will add more strategy and challenge, so if you're new to Baldur's Gate, just remember you don't need to play on the maximum difficulty. Have fun!
Ok, I must say that I should have done this from the beginning lol played the whole game (BG1) and am now at chapter 3 of BG2. Man I never played BG (had previously played IWD I and II before) so I am used with the IWD spells and missed it so much during BG. I appreciate the detailed explanation a lot, did it to both BGs (I also skipped Dragonspear) so I will use it again once I start a new game. Thanks a lot!
Very cool installation guide. I think that the infinity engine games need a next level of installation tool. E.g. autsort of Mods and telling which mod needs another mod to work(if that is even a thing). This form of using mods can be seen in Rimworld.
Hi, and thank you :) Mod installation tools exist for the infinity engine games, I just got used to doing this manually and since I don't install that many mods, never really bothered with it. In any case, this one is highly regarded as one of the best - forums.beamdog.com/discussion/74335/project-infinity-mod-manager-for-baldurs-gate-icewind-dale-planescape-torment-and-eet/p1 There is also a youtube guide on how to use it available here: th-cam.com/video/wt1mWX2zo_4/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=morpheus562 by mr. @morpheus562 Enjoy :D
One day, someone is going to make a mod where you can pull an Alignment reversal on Edwin. On that day, Coredumped; we're going to get you to be the voice actor. Edwin but kind. :)
Edwin, the Kind sounds like a fun take! Not sure if I would be able to refrain from being evil though as I'm so used to him being a snarky hateful spellchucker :D
For my second ever bg playthrough I installed the mods using your guide and I´m really excited to see how the experience will go. I´m not really good at the game so I went with tactical and I´ll adjust if need be. I´ll be a dragon disciple sorcerer :)
Awesome my friend It is a significantly different experience, but it is an improvement in my opinion if you like the extra challenge. Have fun with it! Also, excellent choice for a main character eheh
@@CoredumpedGaming For my first playthrough I played a berserker mage and honestly it was so powerful. I still had to fight Amelyssan without Edwin, who got permaed earlier, which was a pain.
Been playing BG since it's release and am just finishing up my first mod install without using a mod installer lol and going to try my first no reload SCS insane difficulty challenge, if it goes horribly wrong I know who I am going to blame!! lol. Ty for the guide, tried several times in the past to use mods without installer and always didn't get it, your vid helped. No more using that horrible bad installer anymore
Lol first of all I'm happy to hear this was useful. But I will say that if this will be your first go at BG with SCS, don't bring suffering and pain upon your person by going for a no-reload run right from the start :p give the game a try first, see how you handle SCS as it does make things significantly different and then once you're comfortable with it, feel free to go no-reload! Just trying to save you some frustration :D in any case, best of luck and have fun!
@CoredumpedGaming lol should have said played with SCS a couple of times prior, this was first time trying to do mods without using a mod manager...but looks like I was overly optimistic lol..I don't think I'm doing the dlc mod merger correctly, and also can't seem to get EET mod to install, was doing the whole trilogy mod so I could do the entire cowled menace mod lol. Oh well will just mod bg2 and playthrough that
Had a blast(and frustration) this week putting mods into the android versions. What I REALLY Want to learn is how to actually create or edit in game text snd whatnot
hi im new to all things baldurs. even pc games in general with modding and such. really appreciate all the efforts really insightful my dude!! and i felt the need to comment cause of the sudden edwin apperences.
It seems more complicated than it actually is, but it is indeed a long process and one that looks daunting for people who've never done it before. Thankfully, as long as the steps are followed correctly, it works every time :)
No need to owe me your life, that's too much responsibility for me to handle :p Screwing up with these mods is part of the learning process eheh. Happy to hear the guide was helpful! Have fun with your mods :D
With SCS - For anyone that wants a more challenging play through without making it completely stacked against you, opt to only install the 'Smarter General AI' while ignoring all the other ones - 'smarter mages, improved wolves etc'. I wished for improvements and a little bit of extra challenge but improving everything regarding the AI made the game frustratingly difficult. You will be forced to play your mages with pretty much only disabling and spell removal spells just to counter enemy mages. This is not fun to me, I still like to leave room for my mages to blow stuff up on occasion and having to spam breach, whip, pierce magic all the time is extremely tedious and there is plenty of that with Protection from Magical Weapons being spammed by the AI already. You can improve certain trash creatures that are naturally unintelligent creatures which isn't realistic at all. They are supposed to be stupid. Let them be stupid. Trash fights should remain trash fights.
This is a pretty good suggestion. Just yesterday someone was saying SCS was a bit much and they preferred the original, but let's not forget what's being said here. SCS is customizable so tune it to what you prefer and gives the best experience for you as the player. Don't make yourself think you need to play everything in the hardest possible just because some others do it.
@@CoredumpedGaming Absolutely. I made the mistake of going for all the things and had my ass handed to me, even with a good 400 hours or so under my belt on vanilla. Great mod just pick our poisons wisely so to speak.
Nicely detailed guide and the advices has helped me to keep in mind when I plan to mod once I complete at least 1-2 (or more) playthroughs for both of BG1 and 2. I decided to create a document as a list of mods to install for planning reasons, while trying to accurately sort the install order as I look around for other mods that would catch my interest or not. As far I spent quite bit of time looking around, I gathered at least around 20-30 mods in total. Pretty much most of them consists of quests and kit mods (both standalone and improvements to existing kits) that are pretty optional by that point while the ones you provided from this video are there as well. I feel IWDification, Spell Revisions (maybe), SCS and Tweaks Anthology is more than enough in general. Since I have BG1 + SoD and BG2 on Steam, Is it possible to make a separate copy of the games folder to another place so I can place all of my mods on there instead of my clean/vanilla installation?
My games are on GoG but I would expect you can also do that with steam yeah. In the common steamapps folder (from memory I think that's where the game gets installed) I would say you can just copy the entire game folder to somewhere else to keep as a backup for instance and then swap it back when necessary
No problem friend! I'm happy it was helpful :D I saw your message before about the setup-rr and had already prepared the file on google drive but the comment disappeared so I assume you were able to solve the issue?
@@CoredumpedGaming Yeah I rewinded the video to see if you had mentioned that problem in the BG1 installation of RR, and ofcourse you did! Thanks again mate! Gonna try to finish ToB this time around on Insane. Trying out a Shadowdancer 13/Cleric dual class.
@@DinkSmalwood a spicy class combination for sure! I am assuming you are familiar with dual classing, but just be careful about the weapon proficiencies as clerics can't use the "typical" thief weapons (bladed ones). Never tried out that particular combination before, sounds very interesting. You just want to backstab people for a trilion damage don't you? XD
@@CoredumpedGaming Oh I know aaaall about it. It's mostly the mods and modding that I'm unfamiliar with. Half-Orc Thief/Cleric multi-class is one of my all time favourites. But I'm going for a dual instead since I wanny try out Shadowdancer and Tweaks Anthologies lets me use bladed weapons without needing Use Any Item (almost cheating but what the hell.) Rightous Magic + Staff of the Ram is what I normally use for insane backstabs, but the new Short sword of Backstabbing looks fun as well.
Thank you (Obrigado), for the thorough guide. I always like to revisit BG I & II but get lost in what mods to install and their order. Your guide is clear and very helpful.
What a wonderful guide! The first time, that I used BG-Mods, was with BigWorldSetup and the second time with EE_mod_setup. But BWS is no longer supported and EE-Mod_setup installed some outdated versions and it had me running into bugs, that would have been patched if I would have had the newest version. I'm too stupid for Infinity Projekt.....so now I will have to do it manually and your guide is very helpfull. I do agree with most of your decitions, but I can't play the game without the +100% movement speed(out of combat). I'm even thinking about 150% the next time. For ma, waiting for my party to get from A to B is no fun in a game.
First of all, thanks! Always nice to hear this was useful :) In my opinion if someone is installing a select few mods, I would say doing it manually is usually the best way to not get problems with the installation. As for playing the game with extra movement, go for it! I 100% recognize its benefit and it can remove a lot of wasted time of just walking around like you said. When I want to do that, since I'm pretty familiar with the game at this point I just use console commands to teleport instantly from one place to the other.
@@CoredumpedGaming Teleporting sounds nice too. One problem, that I found with the increased movement speed, is that it can happen that I'm speeding past NPCs that want to talk to me. So I' might miss a trigger for a quest. It helps to keep an eye on my party when they are crossing the map.
Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I don't use it. It can also get you out of ambushes that you normally wouldn't escape or from thieves that are stealthing before engaging in combat. These are all minor things but yes, it does have that issue.
This one I have already actually shared, as I had seen some people there having some trouble with their mods. But I appreciate your willingness to help :D Thanks
Hello, no. It has the shaman class but that's pretty much a sorcerer style of druid. In the sense that you pick spells to have on level up and then you may cast them at will (like the sorcerer). There are no IWD spells in BG EE though. Examples of IWD spells I'm talking about: Sunscorch, Vitriolic Sphere, Emotions, Entropy Shield, etc. You can find the full list here: gibberlings3.github.io/Documentation/readmes/readme-iwdification.html
Thank you for this guide. Im trying to get the DLC merger mod to work but i believe the version of baldurs gate 1 dlc is corrupted. Once i run the merge option it automatically aborts edit: I got the same files through gog directly (rather than a torrent of those same files as i originally got) and now it works perfectly!
Hello, to be quite honest I never really looked at it. I've heard about it but I've gotten so used to playing like this throughout the years that never really felt the need to change that. Is it something that you would recommend? Does it have any other advantages other than providing automatic continuity between the games?
Great video thank you very much. One question, if I want in the future change some setups in the mods do I need to install all over again the game or can I open de .exe file and delete and add some settings that want to change. Thank you again for the video and the good explanation. Looking forwards to my first ever BG1 run!
Hello and thank you good sir :) The mods have the option to only uninstall certain components so you can take them out without having to reinstall the entire thing. However, there are times when certain dependencies are created between mods which cause the process to not be entirely successful and then the best option is indeed to just reinstall the entire thing.
Really wished you had included EET! I want to have the unified trilogy in one place. But, I'm confused, to do this, if I need to run all of the scripts (including EET) in the BGEE directory, some in both, or all in BG2EE. Really, this is my only question (at this point).
You are godsent! Thank you for this, amazing guide. Are there any other interesting mods? I am especially interested in mods that add or remove restrictions from kits/multiclass/dualclass (would love to play as an archer/druid someday)
Thank you very much kind sir, glad to hear it was helpful :D There are a lot of interesting mods, but I usually only play with the ones from this video and also these shown here: th-cam.com/video/ceSuvPXkQXA/w-d-xo.html What you are looking for regarding loosening restrictions, the tweaks anthology mod shown on the video already does that :) just look for the component mentioning the class restrictions and you should be able to do what you need.
Thank you sooooo much for the great video, very informative and useful. i was banging my head on the desk (poor desk) triyng to figure out the install order. just one question: where can i find the log telling what components i installed, AFTER having finished the installation process?
Thank you good sir, happy to hear it was helpful :) The file you are looking for is called weidu if I remember correctly and it is in the game directory, same place where you paste your mods into.
@@CoredumpedGaming found it, now i can install mods in the same sequence in bg2 too. Don't know if it matters, but i don't want running the risk of wasting tens of hours of gameplay, just to discover my PC is not compatible through games.
@@pierd3198 yeah, those are useful for future installations and also to share with others. For instance, you can see my weidu logs in the video description. I made them available in case people were interested in seeing which components I install from which mods and in which order :)
@@CoredumpedGaming yes i saw that, in fact I copied almost all of your settings in my installation, they made sense to me (but I use the high quality weapons instead of the + 1, I like it better). But one more question: if I want to alter some settings of, say, tweaks anthology, how can I do that? Do I have to reinstall everything, or do I just run the weidu again and select different components?
@@pierd3198 if you run the installer again you get the option to uninstall or modify any component you previously installed. The only thing that may happen is if that particular component was used for something some other mod installed afterwards required it may cause issues. So something like "smarter enemies" wouldn't be something I would try to uninstall, but other more inocuous components is fine
I have decided to install Scs for the first time (mainly thanks to your video about making us notice the radar overlay, again a godsend for all of us) and I kinda forgot if before doing any of this I have to reinstall Dragonspear UI ++: before doing anything in this video, UI mods should be installed first correct?
Hey! It means a lot to me that I was able to inspire you into trying SCS :D As to your question, I very rarely try UI mods so I had to check, but yes, UI should be the first things to install. SCS will change part of the UI to add the "SCS difficulty slider" for example. I hope you have fun with your new runs! Feel free to drop by and let me know how it's going :)
Great guide, just 1 question... If I wanted to add EET to this guide, at which point would I do it? After the BG1 installs, or after all of them? Cheers
I do not use any UI mods. This has been asked before so this may be relevant for you: there is a setting in the interface options I believe (doing this from memory, not at pc at the moment) where you can choose to scale the UI to your resolution. That may be what you're looking for. It looks a lot better for me when that one is on, which is what you see in the video :)
Sorry, I thought I had seen in one of your playthroughs that you were using a mod that restored the UI of the original games rather than the enhanced editions, but I may have gotten that wrong.
@@jgj75 ah, that is not a mod, that was me just installing BG1 without Siege of Dragonspear. I tried using for a little bit a UI mod, this one - www.gibberlings3.net/forums/topic/30827-ui-lefreuts-enhanced-ui-bgee-sod-bg2ee-and-eet/ but I didn't like some of the changes done there. It is still a cool mod though.
I just discovered the world of modding and im super hyped to try all this out. Last time i played BG2 was 15 years ago. One question: Would these mods you recommend work with 3.5 ruleset mod? And a UI mod?
Hi, there are some really good mods for Baldur's Gate, you're in for some fun stuff :D As to your 3.5 ruleset question, I don't know, I've never tried a mod for that. For UI mods, a lot of people swear by Lefreut's enhanced UI (www.gibberlings3.net/forums/topic/30827-ui-lefreuts-enhanced-ui-bgee-sod-bg2ee-and-eet/) but it's really up to personal taste. If you like them, go for it. If you want to install a UI mod, install it before the others (except ModMerge for BG1 if you're playing with SoD).
@CoredumpedGaming Could you please make a video on Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Trilogy? ( maybe with mods - Project Infinity - Sword Coast Stratagems or any variation you see fit) I guess my reading comprehension sucks I have failed to install EET many times, And there are no recent vids to watch. Anyway thanks love your content btw!
Hey @Coredumped Gaming, I thought I might ask you this, since I can't find any info online. After installing everything in this video, and nothing else, I noticed when trying to recruit Xzar at the very beginning of BGEE the game crashes once he and Montaron join the party. I am playing as a Bard using all your above listed mods in your video. Have you encountered this at all? By the way, Jahiera and Khalid were able to join without issue.
Hello, no, I have never had that happen to me :/ I wonder if there is something broken with their characters? My suggestion would be to reinstall everything and make sure the order of the mods is installed is correct and see if it fixes it. If the issue persists I would try the gibberlings3 discord as they have a mod help channel there with the modders that can help you debug your problem. Best of luck!
I'm trying to install mods for BG1EE in the same order but when I get to installing SCS I don't get the weidu installer, it appears for 0,1s and disappears. I have stratagem folder in the main game folder (using GOG) but when I open WeiDU txt file SCS is not listed. Idk what I'm doing wrong.
That sounds like the mod installer is crashing during launch. Are you installing the latest version? Can you redownload the mod to make sure it isn't corrupted somehow? If nothing works I would suggest joining the gibberlings3 discord channel, they have a mod help section with a lot of people that are very nice and helpful when these problems occur.
Thanks for this nice guide. Before doing any mods, I copied my complete game folders to another place and to all the modding stuff on the copies. This way I also don't have to worry about updates. I'm going give EET a try (manual installation). Did you already test it or do you plan to make a video about it?
Excellent question. I explain this in the video, but the idea is that SCS doesn't necessarily use the latest versions of IWDification. In my case, when using IWD spells from SCS alone, there were some bugs like projectiles (for example Lance of Disruption) having 0 range and IWD buff icons not showing up on my party portraits. All of these have been fixed in IWDification, but are still present in the SCS version. Since then I've started installing IWDification before SCS to make sure I have the latest stuff regarding IWD components.
I'm having problems with some of the group buffing. It seems to work for armor but not spirit armor for self buffing. For group buffing the option for group defensive buffs keeps getting untoggled somehow after it attempts to do it once. I made sure the wizard was rested and had protection from fire learned. Also hitting B did not cast it. Any advice?
Please, im triying to install the enhanced edition trilogy mod but when i open the direct access( already all three games comined) it doesnt give me the option the choose between the games
Sorry friend, I've never used the EET mod so I'm not sure how to help here. My recommendation would be to check out the gibberlings3 discord as they have a lot modders there and they are very helpful
Scrolls for those spells are added pretty much everywhere. You can find them in the world normally, dropped by enemies, shops selling them and of course, during level up if you are a spontaneous caster.
So, well, I'm gonna jump in for another run. Last time I used only SCS and Tweaks: if I want to try out rogue rebalancing and Ascension, do you recommend to delete everything and reinstall the game and the mods? Or do I just reinstall mods in the correct order, without deleting anything? Thank you in advance.
In my experience I would say do a complete clean install from scratch. I've tried doing what you mentioned and it always ended up getting messed up one place or another.
Thank you for the guide, however I’m confused on one part. I’ve never modded before and I’m not very tech savvy but when I copy and paste the dlc merger into the baldurs gate configuration folder and try to run the setup it says I need to run the set up in the infinity engine game directory, and I cannot proceed with the set up…how do I fix this? Edit: I figured it out. That’s is for this guide, you rock man
Why wouldn't I read this? :p I cannot make a recommendation because personally I've never played with new kits from mods before. I do enjoy the modifications to existing kits from the Rogue Rebalancing mod though.
No clue why, but after almost 2 hours of installing mods in both BG1 and 2. BG1 will not launch in steam. -_- **Edit** I bet I know what happened. I did not go in order. Uninstalling / reinstalling the game now. Will reinstall those mods tomorrow *shutter* and see if it works.
Does anyone know if there is a mod for things like stoneskin, spirit armor ect that allows for the character colors to be visible and not just the drab stoneskin gray?
Rouge rebalancing isn't working when ever i get the console open it says it cannot be used in an active archive I'm on the steam version i followed the steps to the letter everything else worked as shown in the video
Hum, don't think I've ever seen that error. I would suggest joining the Gibberlings3 discord channel, they have a place to ask for mod help and they're usually very helpful.
Very helpful! But on my bg2 game after I installed scs the ice wind dale spells were all titled as “invalid” and had a string of numbers after. I don’t have SOD or bg1 I only have the steam version of bg2 EE, Tob EEand Black pits. Do I need mod merger or dlc merger for the steam version of bg2? Scs was installed on a fresh download from steam. Just made a copy of the file and put the sca mod into the copy and ran as normal.
Hello and thanks :) Mod merger is only necessary for modding BG1 installations which also have SoD. Since you're only modding BG2 you don't need it. As for the invalid spells, make sure you're using the latest versions of the mods to ensure compatibility and if you still have issues you can check the gibberlings3 discord where they have a very helpful group of modders which can help :)
hi there. does rogue rebalancing work okay with bg 1 ee? are there components that might cause issues? the shs forum has bug reports such as bard hat is not working with bard kit tweaks from the mod.
I use it in my BG1 runs without issues. I don't think I install all components so I can't speak for them all (you can check my weidu log in the video description) but the ones I do install never caused me problems
@@CoredumpedGaming thank you for your reply. i am still not sure if the bug with bard hat is fixed now, but i guess i can install all other components without worrying
I have never played the game on multiplayer so I can't really say. I would imagine though that for it to work properly, both people would need to have the same mods installed, at least the ones who change non-cosmetic stuff
I am slogging through the painful process of installing EE Trilogy. I got all the way through the process until SCS (the last mod I installed, of course) came up with an error during Smarter AI install. Just maddening because there aren't many resources out there anymore especially since Spellhold Studio's forums are no longer around.
@@CoredumpedGaming thanks for the tip. Haven't gone to the step of bothering the modders yet, but unfortunately it seems I have nowhere else to turn. The worst thing about it is that the rest of the install went beautifully, and EET is now playable. I even have smarter mages and creatures installed. But not having smarter AI means that enemies won't be prioritizing targets or using HLAs. Everything looks so great that I'm tempted to just play, but my OCD won't allow me to enjoy it lol. By the way, you are really on top of your comments section. You've certainly earned my sub, and then some!
@@holden6104 yeah, we've all been there, trust me. Spending a bunch of time installing mods, everything going well and then the last one messes everything up :p A bit strange scs failing there, don't think I've ever come across that particular problem. Maybe it conflicts with some other AI enhancement mod (?) I also share that OCD btw :p Best of luck for getting that fixed, conflicts can be a bit frustrating.
@@CoredumpedGaming With some more investigation, it seems like I screwed up the mod order. Installed my GUI too late, and aTweaks is apparently supposed to go after SCS. Hopefully the third time's the charm! I would note that even though EET installed properly, I noticed a lot of issues. Dialog boxes tended to crash the game, and I had an issue where triggers were not applying properly.
Hey Coredumped! Enjoyed Solasta a lot, watched through it, played through it, loved it! So i want to install the "portraits, portraits everywhere"-Mod. Does it work the same way as modding those mods or do i have to do something else?
Hello mr. Cup of Tea :D Thank you, very happy to hear you liked Solasta! As for the mod you are inquiring about, it is a weidu mod so yes, the installation process is exactly the same. Just get the mod files into the BG installation folder, run the setup-PPE and choose the components you would like to install, all done :)
@@cupoftea9528 is it giving you any error? I can try to install the latest version on my BG to see if I can replicate this when I get home, but you should also check this discord - discord.gg/edet6Zpk which is the gibberlings3 modding discord and they have a channel specifically to discuss mods and any problems. Let me know how it goes
Ok, just got home and was able to try this out. Apparently when you install the mod, the portraits don't seem to get applied to an ongoing save file, which is kind of odd :/ But I tried starting a new game and in there all the portraits are working. Don't know if this is a limitation from the mod.
@@CoredumpedGaming hey yeaah it was that. It didnt work with old saves.. No biggie though! I started a new game now and im done with the Irenicus-Dungeon. Seen it a lot already. Ran into an issue when Steam auto updated my game to the new version, 2.6, and while my game still runs there is now a good portion of it that comes up INVALID*** Do we know if mods have been adapted, or will I have to run 2.4 version?
Mods work perfectly fine with the latest version of the game, but updates mid-game will ruin the mods and potentially save games (this is why I have a section in the video recommending for people to turn off automatic updates if using mods).
spent 4 hours researching last night. this is exactly what I needed.

That does sound like an interesting addition. I'll have to check it out :D
I can confirm it's a very nice addition to the game.

Just to help out any of you who run into this same issue:
If you try to install SCS (For BG2 this happened to me) and the Weidu terminal starts up for a second then closes out and won't run, try running the installer as administrator, that worked in my case
Thanks for the suggestion, it worked for me too :)

Thank you very much kind sir :D
The installation for these mods need some getting used to indeed.
Not saying it wouldn't work of course, and I think there is a lot of excitement in finding useful things as you explore, which gives that "first playthrough" feeling when you find really cool items for the first time :D
I would certainly try a game of this style.

Very cool installation guide.
I think that the infinity engine games need a next level of installation tool.
E.g. autsort of Mods and telling which mod needs another mod to work(if that is even a thing).
This form of using mods can be seen in Rimworld.
Hi, and thank you :)
Mod installation tools exist for the infinity engine games, I just got used to doing this manually and since I don't install that many mods, never really bothered with it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who slams on the enter key lmao
Ahahahah welcome to the club friend! :D

You're in for some awesome experiences my friend :D Enjoy!
Always nice to hear this was useful :)
In my opinion if someone is installing a select few mods, I would say doing it manually is usually the best way to not get problems with the installation.
Thanks for this video , I appreciate it very much.
Thank you sir :) Glad to hear it was helpful.

Doesnt the definitive edition, the black menu version from 2017. Already have the Ice Wind Dale stuff ?
Because you get the shaman new class in game.

The mods have the option to only uninstall certain components so you can take them out without having to reinstall the entire thing.
However, there are times when certain dependencies are created between mods which cause the process to not be entirely successful and then the best option is indeed to just reinstall the entire thing.
@@CoredumpedGaming Thanks for the fast reply!

There are a lot of interesting mods, but I usually only play with the ones from this video and also these shown here: th-cam.com/video/ceSuvPXkQXA/w-d-xo.html
What you are looking for regarding loosening restrictions, the tweaks anthology mod shown on the video already does that :) just look for the component mentioning the class restrictions and you should be able to do what you need.
Thank you sooooo much for the great video, very informative and useful. i was banging my head on the desk (poor desk) triyng to figure out the install order. just one question: where can i find the log telling what components i installed, AFTER having finished the installation process?
Thank you good sir, happy to hear it was helpful :)
The file you are looking for is called weidu if I remember correctly and it is in the game directory, same place where you paste your mods into.

Hey! It means a lot to me that I was able to inspire you into trying SCS :D
As to your question, I very rarely try UI mods so I had to check, but yes, UI should be the first things to install.
Cheers
I am not familiar with EET. My suggestion is check the reddit link in the video description for more information on that one
Thanks!
@@CoredumpedGaming
This guide was super helpful. Do you have a list and/or guide for the UI mods that you use?
I keep getting fatal errors "not a game directory " on roque r
I just discovered the world of modding and im super hyped to try all this out. Last time i played BG2 was 15 years ago. One question: Would these mods you recommend work with 3.5 ruleset mod? And a UI mod?
Hi, there are some really good mods for Baldur's Gate, you're in for some fun stuff :D
As to your 3.5 ruleset question, I don't know, I've never tried a mod for that.
Apologies my good sir, but I have never used EET before so I'm not at all familiar with it.
Thank you :)
Never tried EET, but that one seems to be very popular so I wouldn't expect issues with it.
Also, good call on making the backup ^^
Wish you post a video on how to install mods on BG3 .
If cool mods show up I'll look at them :D
fantastic stuff tyvm
My pleasure friend, hope it was helpful :)

I have downloaded DLC Merger - when I attempt to run it the Dark Side of Sword Coast v1.0.3B opens.... I'm so confused. Can anyone help?
The Dark Side of the Sword Coast? Is that a mod that you installed? I am not familiar with that
Why install IWD spell mods when SCS has a component who already add IWD spell in the game ? Is it different ?
Excellent question. I explain this in the video, but the idea is that SCS doesn't necessarily use the latest versions of IWDification. In my case, when using IWD spells from SCS alone, there were some bugs like projectiles (for example Lance of Disruption) having 0 range and IWD buff icons not showing up on my party portraits. All of these have been fixed in IWDification, but are still present in the SCS version.
Since then I've started installing IWDification before SCS to make sure I have the latest stuff regarding IWD components.
Thank you for your answer ! And for all the job in all your video, i am enjoying your scs playtrough
Any advice?
Are you talking about a mod or just the game character AI script?
in what order would sentrizeals avatars fall under?
I've never used that one, but I believe that by being a purely cosmetic mod you can install it whenever
Where can you find the IWD arcane spells in BG1 and BG2 when you install the Arcane Spell Pack?
Are they in shops and/ore drops?
Scrolls for those spells are added pretty much everywhere. You can find them in the world normally, dropped by enemies, shops selling them and of course, during level up if you are a spontaneous caster.
Thanks
That’s is for this guide, you rock man
I was too late but am glad to hear you figured it out :D
Happy modding!
thx, really helpful
Glad to have been of help :D Have fun in Baldur's Gate!
than kyou!
I don't know if you will ever read this, but do you recommend any mods that introduces new kits to the game?
Why wouldn't I read this? :p
I cannot make a recommendation because personally I've never played with new kits from mods before.
Yeah, they are very particular about the order... And worry not, we've all been there lol Good luck for your next installation :D
Does anyone know if there is a mod for things like stoneskin, spirit armor ect that allows for the character colors to be visible and not just the drab stoneskin gray?
I'm not sure if tweaks anthology does this, though it would be the only one that comes to mind
@@CoredumpedGaming i am willing to try anything at this point lol
edit:good news im just stupid and was pasting it in the wrong spot LOL
Do you know how I stall the PPE mod? If it's in the video already sorry I'm on break.
I'm not familiar with this PPE mod. If it's a weidu mod it should be installed in the same way as the mods I'm showcasing on this video.
Hello and thanks :)
Mod merger is only necessary for modding BG1 installations which also have SoD. Since you're only modding BG2 you don't need it. As for the invalid spells, make sure you're using the latest versions of the mods to ensure compatibility and if you still have issues you can check the gibberlings3 discord where they have a very helpful group of modders which can help :)
@@CoredumpedGaming ok thank you so much. Very fast reply! You are awesome.
2:40 Unfortunately, that's not quite true. EEex and mods which rely on it only work on PC, not Mac.
You are correct, my apologies. At the time of this recording I wasn't aware that EEex existed :(
hi there. does rogue rebalancing work okay with bg 1 ee? are there components that might cause issues? the shs forum has bug reports such as bard hat is not working with bard kit tweaks from the mod.
Does installing all these mods affect / causes bug multiplayer in BG1 or BG2?
I have never played the game on multiplayer so I can't really say.
I would imagine though that for it to work properly, both people would need to have the same mods installed, at least the ones who change non-cosmetic stuff
I am slogging through the painful process of installing EE Trilogy. I got all the way through the process until SCS (the last mod I installed, of course) came up with an error during Smarter AI install. Just maddening because there aren't many resources out there anymore especially since Spellhold Studio's forums are no longer around.
Your best bet for help with mods is now the gibberlings3 discord channel. A lot of modders are there and they are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Spending a bunch of time installing mods, everything going well and then the last one messes everything up :p
A bit strange scs failing there, don't think I've ever come across that particular problem. Maybe it conflicts with some other AI enhancement mod (?)
I also share that OCD btw :p
Best of luck for getting that fixed, conflicts can be a bit frustrating.
@@holden6104 i am rooting for you my friend! I never installed EET so don't have much insight on that one sadly.
I might just be dumb, but I don't get how to do the first one(DLC Merger)

@Coredumped Gaming thanks a lot dude!
Doesnt seem to work for me :(
@@cupoftea9528 is it giving you any error?
For me, its the same problem like in solasta, i am really bad and i dont have that in-depth knowledge about it.
Thanks for giving it all to help :)
Ran into an issue when Steam auto updated my game to the new version, 2.6, and while my game still runs there is now a good portion of it that comes up INVALID***
Do we know if mods have been adapted, or will I have to run 2.4 version?
Mods work perfectly fine with the latest version of the game, but updates mid-game will ruin the mods and potentially save games (this is why I have a section in the video recommending for people to turn off automatic updates if using mods).
