I wonder if changing the bidding to be similar to Eggs and Empires would help. (Shuffle cards, draw three, choose one for your bid-winner gets first choice)

Your review is spot on. Matches my thoughts exactly. An entertaining game, but the bidding is just a little off. I wish that felt like it had more impact. Like for instance, say the winner of the bid had the right of first refusal. That is, they could take the top or defer to the #2. And then when the next tile is revealed, they can defer again. Or something like that.

Or just show all N tiles side-by-side instead of stacking them.

@@sexagesimalian I actually like the idea of bidding with incomplete information. What feels really bad is tying. Tying is losing. You got to the end of the line. There is a hidden catch-up mechanic here too though. When you tie, you use an extra card, so the more you tie the faster you can pick up your deck and have all 10 cards to choose from, while those who tied less than you, are working with only a few cards, you have your full deck back.

@@sexagesimalian Or...put them side-by-side AFTER the bidding. The bidding with incomplete information is an integral part of the mechanism, and informs how strongly you go after the visible tiles, but maybe after the bid you get to choose in order from complete information.

The uninformed bidding seems really awkward. I'm surprised they didn't have the ones up for auction on display and you just choose. Maybe it's too easy that way?

Agreed. I guess they just wanted layered tiles gimmick.
I think players' personal boards are enough for that though.

The "gimmick' is the heart of the game. The "gimmick" is that you are often not quite sure what you are going to get. I have played the game at least 10 times and my groups love it. A full game takes about 15 minutes. It is intended as light and breezy fun.

It’s a great game it’s trying to guess what your mates are choosing, it’s also quick and easy with a lot of talking between us

It's like sushi go in a lot of ways. Simultaneous turns and a theme that doesn't make sense.

Wow that bidding is dumb as hell. Just display the top 4 for everyone to see and bid on those .. there i just fixed the game ... clearly coliope has terrible playtesters

Clearly,, you don't understand what this game is going for, or dont' like it. I've played about ten times, and it has been a hit with every group I've shown.

bad mechanic, bad games. Lately I doubted your taste Tom, really doubted. I mean, bidding for tiles that you can only see partially?? I dont want to play this game if that's the case.
